Asics Gel Resolution X (10)

You have the same size and level as me it seems but i´m 10+ kilos heavier then you (thank you PIZZA!.. )

I have tried a lot of shoes and for me the Yonex Eclipsion 5 is the best. I have used Adidas Solecourt Boost and Gel Res in the past but recent generations Gel Res was a bit to narrow. The X is more wide, comfortable and roomy but i have problems getting my foot locked in in it.

Lotto Raptor hyperpulse 100 is also a very very good shoe. A bit hard to find sometimes but a top of the line shoe and a shoe i still can use. Only problem is the clay-pattern is so deep so my foot digs in into the clay, even when i play on good clay in germany. I sometimes use the all court pattern instead on clay
Thanks for your insight. With the GR X how did you get over the "uneven sides" feel?

Meanwhile TW recommended NB CT Rally and Diadora Icon3 Speed but I also was considering the Nike Vapor Cage 4.

I did not think about the uneven sides a single bit. My main concern was I felt my heel was not locked in properly. I must play around with the laces to see if i can fix this issue

I'm 1m95 (90 kg) and at 47 play the equivalent of a US 5.0+ (I play in Europe). I wear orthotic soles as I have very low arch. I've always liked the GR line but the GR9 didn't work for me at all as size 46.5 (12) was hurting me in the midfoot area as the Dynawall was pressing into it and size 47 (12.5) was too large. I ended up going back to GR8 but now I need to buy new shoes both for clay and hard court and I don't like the uneven sides look of the GRX at all as I don't slide on hard courts. Even though the FF3 were ranked no1 on Rackets and Runners recent top 5 list for stability shoes (
) when I tried them in store last year I had the feeling they were not as stable as the GR9. Ironically I felt that my ankle could roll more easily.
Very strange sensation for a shoe that is supposed to be super sturdy and stable!

What are your thoughts on the Lotto Raptor 100? I've seen a lot of folks mention that these are the perfect transition from GR8 in terms of stability and size set up, which is what I'm using currently. Or alternatively the Nike Court Zoom Vapor Cage 4 Rafa? With the latter I just don't know how broad/wide the outsole is compared to the GR8s for instance. For my foot type (I have prescription orthotic soles as I have a very low arch and pronation) I definitely need a wide platform.

I've currently got the GR8 clay court model (size 12) and GR8 hard court model (size 11.5)
but the outer soles are wearing out and looking for a replacement before the clay court season starts in a a few weeks.

To cut a long story short: I'm in a bit of a fix. Just wish Asics would dial it back and go back to what made the GR line the best and most reliable shoe ever. since they began tampering with DynaWall technology it's all been downhill since!
I'm the same size as you and a Gel Res 8 clay user also...I recommend you the Nike Cage 4, it's also very stable and comfortable...the new barricades are also good, but I lost my big toe nails in them

If anyone is interested in a lightly worn GR9 in clay outsole let me know. It’s the blueish colorway. I did cut the straps. Insoles are brand new. Not looking to get rich off this, just looking to clear out room to justify buying another pair of Lacoste Ultras.

Tried on the Xs today. For reference, I was 10.5 in the 8s and 10.5 wide in the 9s. Used the 11s d width but the 10.5 in wide fit very similar to the 10.5 8s.

10.5 D was very roomy in the front. Also more volume. 10 fit better in the front but there was a certain tightness towards the heel that may not be anything once worn and played in. If I had to choose between the two, I'd rather go with the 10.5 since I prefer roomy to tight.

I didn't try out the 10 wide but I suspect that'll be the best fitting.

I've never worn a size 10 in a tennis shoe. I usually go between 10.5 and 11 depending on the brand, model.

This was my impression once I tried them on. The rised wall felt better going half size small and inmediately felt the room at the toes and a slight narrow feel in the medial side with not so thick sock, materials felt a bit soft to the touch but not walked too much in them.
Usually I wear Nike in size 10 VC4 but 9.5 in Gel Res 8 and 9 in this case the X might fit better in the 9 purely on the extra extra room at the front and find more security in the ankles when I laced the upper part of the laces where the rised part is cushioned but odd (Less present in the half size small).

Thanks for sharing. That's very helpful and reassuring. So just to be clear you currently use the GR8s size 46.5 EU for clay? In this specific series I have the clay version (46.5) and the hard court version (46).

Based on the above, what sizes would you recommend I try in the Vapor Cage 4?

Thanks again.

I use Gel Res 8 clay size 13 (but keep in mind that I double sock)...same size 13 for the Vapor Cage.
Thanks. How wide of a platform is the outsole of the Cage 4compared to the GR8 and GRX?

Do you have any insight on this? If it's just as wide than that would be fab but if it's narrower than I'm afraid (from experience) that I may roll my ankle more easily.

I'm new to the Asics GR line. A few months ago I gave up on the Nike Zoom Vapor line and bought the Asics Gel Resolution 9. I like them but sometimes in the past few months the courts have been damp in the early morning from fog or dew and the soles of the GR 9's are too slippery. So I bought the GR X Clay court shoes and problem fixed. I don't see any reason to buy another pair of the GR hardcourt if I want better surface grip. Anyone disagree?

Didn't see it mentioned, but it looks like Asics completely pulled the GR9s and GR8s from their US website, even though they had been selling GR8s through the entire life cycle of the 9s. I just tried on a pair of Nike Vapor 12s, but felt like they were pretty chunky compared to the original Vapor Pros and maybe even heavier than the GR9s w/o the stability and durability. That's a bit unfortunate b/c I thought they'd carry the 9s as an alternate like did previously, but I still have a few pairs of 9s left in the closet.

I played a higher level set with the GRX. I don’t think I have a preference of GR9 vs GRX. They both have a specific advantage.

GR9 feels more like its own line of shoe and a little lower to ground and snug

GRX feels like a tip towards the court FF scale but still retains gel res identity. The higher inner side saves my shoe laces and feels much more stable when laterally pushing off aggressively. Also works better with double sock than GR9. Not much space left to double sock with GR9

I just hit the jackpot and noticed a size 10 had become available on the TW site for the navy blue / yellow pair. Only one pair available. Not sure how a size 10.0 recently became available, because as of last week they only had small sizes. I think I am just going to keep checking TW daily and any time a size 10 pops up I am going to grab them.

Has anyone had any issues with pain on the top of the foot where the dynalacing pulls? Any solutions other than just skipping those eyelets?

Has anyone used these with an ankle brace (MedSpec ASO, Aircast A60, or similar) and does the higher ankle portion cause problems?

Ah, no! I hate that they made the shoe wider. The Gel Resolution was the best shoe for those of us with narrow feet. I ordered half a size smaller, and it still felt like there was too much space in the forefoot. The shoe felt big, heavy, and too far off the ground. I regret not buying a few more pairs of the 9s a few months ago—now I can’t find them anywhere!

Which shoe are Gel Res fans of the 7/8/9 going for now?

I just picked up a pair of these today. This is a wildly different shoe than the GR6’s and 7’s I loved. I haven’t tried them on yet so who knows. I don’t care about comfort as much as I care about solid, stiff, and low to the ground.

I've gone to the Nike Vapor 12...and absolutely LOVE them. Feel like the OG Vapor Pro. The Vapor 11 was hot trash.

I can’t figure out how to use a runners knot given the weird lacing system. Anyone want post a pic to help us solve this problem?
I cut the elastic laces.

Does anyone else feel that Asics is over-complicating these shoes. I mean, how much extra rubber and plastic is needed around your feet? They look like tanks in this version.

Agreed. The extra medial height is unnecessary and ugly. It was already a very stable shoe. They prob felt like they needed to do something crazy because it’s the 10th iteration.

Just go back to regular height, Asics. You’re trying too hard.

So you are three guys that have not tried the shoe, arguing that it should change?

I can tell you that compared to the Court FF3, the GR9 felt anything but stable
The GR X is in between kind of

FYI regarding size. Got my GRXs today.

I already have a pair of GR8 in size 8, which were borderline too small, so I had to cut off the Dynawrap strap for them to fit okay, as well as a pair of GR9 Clay in size 8.5, which fit perfectly except that the Dynawall sometimes feels a bit too stiff.

I ordered my GRXs in size 8 because I’d heard they run large. But they felt surprisingly too small for me. I don’t think this would improve over time. So I’ve returned them and hope that size 8.5 will fit better.

(I’m not sure if the GR9 Clay has a different sole compared to the "regular" GR9, so that might be the reason?)

I guess I’m the exception to the rule—same size (8.5) worked best for me in both the GR9 and GRX.
The GRX was a great choice for me: much more stable than the GR8 and GR9. It’s a bit heavier and less nimble, but as someone 50+ with a history of ankle sprains trying to get back in shape and keep up with the younger crowd, that’s exactly what I need. One of the most comfortable tennis shoes I’ve had, and I’ve never felt more secure on court. Not as snug as previous models, but no heel slippage at all for me. And yes, they feel a bit bulkier than my GR8s, but I only noticed that during the first couple of sessions.

If the GR9 isn't stable then why do dozens of pros wear them, including a lot of players that have clothing contracts (Lacoste or EA7 for instance) and can wear any shoes they like so they choose the GR9.

About 20 hours into X. I think I probably have a chance not to use shoe goo any more. That's the most part I hate 9.
The same area is still being scratched but the material is way harder.
Unfortunately, the shoe lace broke again. It is only because it is a little long so the loops are still being scratched with ground.

Tip: Try laces made for skateboarding. They are meant for being durable and surviving abrasion.

I think the GRX works very well for the higher level player. I do miss how low to the ground the GR9 was but the extra stability especially as a bigger guy feels really nice in the GRX

Again..
.. in no part of my statement did I say that it is not stable at all, but that the Court FF is way more stable
Pros also will use very old shoes of other brands, but someone at Asics will have thought about this and multiple players are using this
