Asics Gel Resolution X (10)

Watching Greikspoor vs Watanuki at Indian Wells and Watanuki is sporting 9s in the current X purplish/orange colorway. Guessing since he is Japanese he can get whatever he wants from ASICS but haven’t seen anyone else on tour rocking them. Wonder if ASICS may start doing this for other pros to keep the shoes on screen through the X production life.

Same here, no issues.
Really dislike the X's, but fine with brace. Please bring back the 9's
The uneven sides seems weird plus I've heard from countless reviews that the break in period is rather long.

Looking for a like-for-like replacement of the GR8s which I'm currently wearing (in terms of stability and if possible better comfort).

What other models do you suggest I try?

I am interchanging between my last GR9 and Lacoste AG-Lt23 and have no issue. You should try the Lacoste which is arguably even better shoes

Thanks for your insight. The platform is a bit narrow in the Lacoste's (the mid foot area) and from experience this can make me prone to ankle twisting more easily.

I'm trying the Mizuno Enforce Tour tomorrow which I've heard rave reviews from Zach the Foot Doctor. The enforce tour 2s have also been released but overall it sounds like their predecessor was outstandingly good. The sequel is very good too but I think from what I've heard and read the originals are a very hard act to follow.

Not sure yet....... I've worn resolutions since 2011. Went through 4 pairs of 8's and three of 9's. But this is the end :-(
Following are on my test list :
- Adidas Cybersonic
- Yonex Eclipsion 5
- Nike Vapor 12
Fairly different shoes, but will have to find my new love ;-)

I played in the clay version of these last night and they were absolutely rock solid. No complaints at all.

I also got the clay Vapor 12s so I’ll try those next but the GRX’s feel more solid and substantial.

Hey man I think you may have been trying to leave a reply about the Lacoste shoes but it looks like it made it a comment by me.

If so, I was actually hitting this morning and a buddy of mine was wearing the Lacoste AG-LT23s and he said they are the best shoe he’s ever used, and he is very picky about shoes so I may to grab a pair and try them.

Best performing shoe for me out of the box in the last 4 years.... really stable, good grip and enough cushioning after 3 hours of hard hitting. I'm a bit worried about the outsole durability but felt like an updated/better/ comfortable barricade
I will revisit the GR9 and might buy the X but for now the best shoe in the market is the AG-LT23

Heel slippage with GR9 if you don't use the last shoe lace and a runnners knot.

Agreed. The extra medial height is unnecessary and ugly. It was already a very stable shoe. They prob felt like they needed to do something crazy because it’s the 10th iteration.

Just go back to regular height, Asics. You’re trying too hard.
Isn't supposed to stop you rolling amkle?

About 20 hours into X. I think I probably have a chance not to use shoe goo any more. That's the most part I hate 9.
The same area is still being scratched but the material is way harder.
Unfortunately, the shoe lace broke again. It is only because it is a little long so the loops are still being scratched with ground.

You love a slide on hard court lol

So after about a month of wearing the Xs my regular size 10 is wearable but I typically retie my laces 15-20 min into a hit. And I still notice good amount of space for my feet to slosh around in the shoe. My feet get those cramps on the sides from I think my feet muscles trying to stay stable with all that room

I have a 9.5 coming tomorrow and I wonder if that’ll fit fine double socked

I wear 10’s but got these in 9.5 and they’re snug. I wouldn’t want them any bigger.

Can anyone show me how to do a runner's knot on the GRX? I'm not sure how to do it on the new lacing system. My GRX feels a tad bit too roomy on my side coming from GR9. I'm not sure if I need to go down half a size or just try to tie my shoes better.

A bit off topic but can anyone tell me what shoe is the closest replacement to the Asics GR8? I've tried the GR9s and the GRX and both don't work for me for different reasons.

I've ended up experimenting with a bunch of different shoes but still haven't found the right fit. I'm looking for a shoe that has a similar wide platform (8cm across in the mid foot area of the outsole) and the same light-footed feel of the GR8 with the same level of stability (in particular lateral stability as I've rolled my ankle in the past - before I opted for the Asics GR series).

Have tried the Mizuno Wave Enforce Tour and the Yonex Eclipision 5 as well as the FF Court Resolution Speed 3 and they have all been discarded.

I'm getting quite desperate as this trial and error process is proving to be rather costly as I can only determine if the shoe feels right when playing with it on the court but then if it doesn't work I've lost my money (this is exactly what's happening right now).

I've resorted to going back to my GR8 despite the outsole being a bit worn as tournament season is around the corner.

I've been hitting with the X's for a few days and found double socking essentially fixed most issues for me. Went down half a size and foot feels stable and the weight not too high IMO. Hard to see the negativity around this shoe (but understand its a different shoe)

I also went down half size, wear thick Thorlo socks and am using the bottom row for the second lace hole - this has fixed the fit issues for me also including the heel slippage. However the shoe still feels too heavy and somewhat clunky for me - so I feel slow when I try to play singles and am using them for doubles only. I’m not sure if it is in my head or if it is actually true.

Edit in May: I stopped using them after 37 hours of doubles/practice due to getting tightness/pain in calf/knees. Usually that happened only around 55 hours of a mix of singles/doubles with the GR9 and they probably would have lasted longer if I played only doubles. So I’m one and done with this model and going to check out the Court FF3 again.

I think aesthetically they do look slightly bigger so it makes sense to have that thought. I think I felt it a little too but the stability and comfort was really nice. Will keep testing!

Terrible shoe, I took a shot in spite of the reviews. Been wearing Resolution for 7 years or so, never a problem. This one is causing a lot of pain on the side of my foot. I wear a 10, so got this in 10 again.

I contacted useless chat support, they told me no returns. What a great way to treat a long time customer, take a perfectly fine shoe, change the new model for the worse and tell the customer they are out of luck. Will be calling customer support next and hoping for a different outcome. I don't know why companies even waste their money investing in chat support, they are generally useless.

Go get some 9s while they are floating around the net still. They're still great

Got a pair of the 10s this afternoon - just hit for about 2 hours. They’re great for sole comfort and support (I struggle from arch pain and plantar fasciitis) and overall I’m happy with the purchase.

I normally wear a size 7UK in running shoes and so got a 7 in these too (after trying them in store). Maybe thinking I should have gone down half a size but doesn’t feel too big tbh.

However, the raised medial part is rubbing on my right foot (the bone seems to stick out a bit more on my right foot). The shoes don’t feel too long but they do feel a bit too high (too much volume?) at the front of the foot. Overall these are my only problems with the shoes. Any suggestions for similar shoes?

EDIT: can’t find the 9s in the UK in any normal size so those aren’t an option. Also FYI - these are my first tennis shoes so can’t really compare to others.

Little bump to see if anyone has any thoughts on the above. Sorry if bumping isn't allowed - fairly new here.

Thanks :)

Tried double-socking with these yesterday - Left foot was fine but right foot was in an extreme amount of pain where the toes join the rest of the foot (metatarsals?). I think this was because the front of the shoe was too tight - a combination of me tightening the laces a tad too much as I wanted extra heel lockdown, but also because one of the pairs of socks was a really thick double-layered 1000 mile liner sock which I normally use for hiking. Will try double-socking next with two pairs of my normal thinner nike sports socks. I think the dynawall next to my little toe on my right foot was just pressing in a bit too much. Will also try keeping the front laces a bit looser if that is possible.

Really hope this works as the store I bought them from has a new-only return policy.

I have quite enjoyed the GRX’s. They are comfortable, stable, and appropriately roomy. The laces are weird, almost elastic, and definitely too thin for my liking. That said, the hate this shoe is getting is wild to me. And the complaints around the higher medial wall are overblown. All feet are different of course, but these are a great shoe. I have spent close to 30 hours on court with mine and 15 or so in the clay court version and they are rock solid apart from the laces.

Yeah I pretty much feel this way too.

I've enjoyed them so far - 4 hours on the court (but it was like a sort of social group clinic so not super active playing the whole time). Underfoot is super comfy. Need to try double socking with two pairs of normal socks rather than with a pair of normal socks and a 1000 mile liner sock - it was just too thick. The laces are weird - they feel weird to cinch down as especially with the dynalace(?) system. it often feels like I'm just stretching the laces rather than tightening them.

Hopefully they break in nicely - I haven't really got a chance to play for the next month due to exams but can't wait to get back on the court with them. Raised medial side doesn't bother me at all (the clicking in the forefoot when walking is a bit annoying though).

Did you guys feel they took a while to break in? As I said in my last comment - my right foot was hurting a lot at the metatarsals but I think thats because I tightened the front end too much so the dynawall next to the little toe was squeezing to much.

I play mostly singles in them and have no problems. Again, they have been super stable and comfortable underfoot. No problems getting out of the corners with these. If anything I have to lace them looser than I do with other shoes. I love them. Everyone can hate on them and I will clean up when they go on sale.

Ah maybe that’s what I need - I’ll try lacing looser. Am I correct in thinking that the dynalace system means if you tighten the top end then the front end is tightened too? Wonder if I can lock down the rear more without tightening the front too much.

So after initially really struggling with these even going down a half size from my 9s in a 13 wide, I have finally found my fit and am really enjoying these. I tried a 12.5, 12.5 wide and tried on a 12 but I really needed an 11.5 standard to get the lock down I needed without have to tighten so hard to get pain through those banded straps. Sizing is crazy!
