Asics Gel Resolution X (10)

And a Navy one. I guess summer/fall colors?

I won’t wear Resolution again, I did buy the FF3 for the first time and will stick to those.
I was pretty enamored with the 9s and didn’t LOVE my first try on of the X but have not had a chance to play in them so I don’t want to say “never again” yet

I played with them twice and a lot of pain on side of foot. Played with my 9 next day, no pain.

just played another 2 hours on my gel res x. Total 6 played now. Tbh a lot of it has been slow and practicing shots with my friend.

Soles of both feet felt quite sore / fatigued after one hour. I think it’s because shoes kept loosening up so I wasn’t getting enough support. Then once I got them tightened enough, soles felt fine but the front of my right foot was absolutely killing me.

Seems like pressure where my small toe on my right foot joins the main part of the foot. See pics below.

It was so sore that when I was driving home I had to stop and change into my running shoes because of this terrible pain. I experienced this on my last two hour session - same foot same pain. Really don’t know what to do. I think the front of my feet are much wider than the rear and the pressure from the Dynawall or something on the right foot is too much.

Any ideas? Really want these shoes to work as the support and durability is awesome and I paid full price for them and don’t think I can return them now :(

Laced also keep loosening up which is really irritating - I have to keep them rather tight to get enough lockdown but have to retie them once in a while.

Okay struggling to upload photos from phone but will upload in a few mins from computer.

Picture for reference. Its been about 2 hours since I took the shoes off and that pain in the right foot is gone. I have a pic with the sock off but I don't think anyone here wants to see that lol (unless it helps solve the problem)

EDIT: Think I've figure out what the problem is, just need to find a solution now. I think the large chunk of dynawall that is sort of adjacent to the 5th metatarsal sits kind of under it too. I think my right midfoot is a bit wider than my left midfoot and that is why the pain is only in the right. I think the pain is from the dynawall coming slightly underfoot at that point and therefore putting pressure on the joint whenever I step down. I think this would be called metatarsalgia? Anyone got any ideas on how I can solve this? Maybe try some of the extra padded thorlos?

Okay so I don’t know if anyone really cares but there’s very little info about GRX fit issues on the internet so may aswell share.

If you look above, you’ll see I was having forefoot paint on my right foot towards the end of my sessions (1.5-2h).

Come to the conclusion that this is because shoes are too big. Probably about a half size too big for the left foot. My right foot is a fair bit smaller than the left so the shoe is probably like 3/4 size too big (when my foot is slid forward, I could fit my index finger behind my foot). This means that my right foot can slide about in the shoe and therefore sometimes, if my foot is too far back in the shoe, the forward lateral Dynawall comes underfoot causing pain as it’s fairly hard and meant to be on the side of the foot. Unfortunately issues like this are hard to notice and understand until you’ve used the shoe outside and can no longer return it.

I can’t return these because they’ve had like 8h on court and tbh i like the shoes apart from the size issues. I’m thinking maybe heel pads + a heel cup or something to take up the extra space? Any thoughts?

Depending where you are located you might be able to get a refund or credit.

There are 76 reviews right here. Many people reference the fit issues and that they are too big among other issues.

Thank you. I am very aware of that. I was more referencing the fact that people never seem to outline what issues they're actually experiencing with these shoes - they just go "Terrible, don't know why Asics ruined the Gel Res series" rather then giving any useful info. I am aware its my fault for getting a half size too large but my feet are weirdly sized so it's often hard to tell unless I put in some proper hours with the shoes.

Scrolling down just through about the first 10 reviews yields all this. Lots of info on fit.

Asics Gel Resolution XUnlike the Gel Resolution IX, the X is much larger. I wear a size 10.5 in all prior Asics shoes, I bought the 10.5 and had to return it. The 10 even feels to large. Also, the fit of the shoe is off. After playing for over an hour, the instep of my foot is painful. Stick with the Gel Resolution IX.

Time for a change?Been wearing Gel Resolution for past 10-12 years, this is the first version that no longer fits my foot. Way too sloppy in toe box. I bought the K-Swiss Hypercourt Supreme 2 and am pleasantly surprised on overall fit. A little easier on pocketbook too.

Ruined a great shoeI’ve found the gel resolution 7, 8 & 9 to be exceptional shoes for comfort, support and fit. By far my favorite tennis shoe. So, I was hopeful with the new X version. Wow, how did Asics screw up so badly. The lateral support is gone and the fit is sloppy, The previous versions felt locked in to your feet, The X version has lost that. Guess I’ll have to start looking for a new favorite. ASICS has lost me as a customer,

They badly messed this upI'm one of those people who never writes a review, but I am compelled to share this with the tennis community and maybe Asics sees this too. I have been a Gel Res wearer for multiple generations of this shoe with the 9 being the last good shoe they made. With the X/10 version, they have gone backwards and completely messed up this shoe. It's bulky, feels heavy to wear and my feet start hurting within 10 mins on the court. I can't blame this on the long break in as I have spent at least 15-20 hours on the court with these shoes. The lacing system is really poor as I always feel my foot is loose despite cinching the laces as tight as I can. I hope Asics goes back to the drawing board and brings back what worked in the versions till 9.

Ended up going with size 10. Put in a Superfeet "Run Cushion Low Arch" insole and still felt fine. Played a league match them and had no fit issues. I thought they played similarly to the previous models. Did not feel or notice the higher collar in the slightest. I think the lacing system is better than previous models, felt like it could be done tighter without discomfort since the tongue is very plush.

Were those Superfeet Carbon?

Quick question, did you use any of the Superfeet insoles before they released the "new" ones (i.e. Active Cushion/Support with the Low/Med/High arch variants?)

Just that I've been mostly using Orange in my current Tennis shoes which Superfeet state are Med/High Arch #doubt, and so bought some Active Cushion Medium Arch and after a few matches in them, just felt like my Arch was getting pummelled... so they've been relegated to the walking/casual shoes where they don't cause any issues.

Did you do the 'break-in' that I believe you're meant to do? i.e. Wearing them for an hour the first day, then progressively more etc?

Honest answer is no idea.

I never had any issues going straight into a new pair of Oranges when I decided to replace them so didn't think anything of it.

In all likelihood, I probably would have used them in some casualwear first before putting them into the tennis shoes, but i got them a while back so don't remember anymore.

Am planning to try putting them back into my tennis shoe rotation again, but was just wondering what experience others had with them since I saw they were mentioned.

No, never used their Green or Orange insoles because I need low arch support and I think those were always advertised as being med/high.

I've used these insoles in my Gel Res 7 clay shoes without issue so I figure they'd be fine in these shoes.

I used the laces from my pair of ff3’s. The laces on the X are way too stretchy. Less stretch makes a big difference
How did you find the sizing comparison between the FF3 and the GRX? My TTS is too big in the GRX so trying the size down, was also thinking of trying the FF3 at the same time.

I like the ff3’s and for me they fit just like gel res 9. The ff3’s are definitely narrower than the X

Ugh. People shouldn't have to put a giant pad in the heel of their shoe to prevent heel slippage. This is a basic requirement for tennis shoes. Companies should understand this.
I think the video is probably more relevant for people who missed the message to downsize a half size or can't because of forefoot width.

Agreed, though, that it shouldn't be needed for what is a rather expensive shoe.

Asics' website says to go half a size down for men's Gel Res X. I found this to be true for me. Too bad they just don't fit right for me (can't get rid of the heel slippage).
I’ve got a pair of half size down on the way - I expect I’ll still have heel slippage as unfortunately I have that rather awkward foot shape with a wide forefoot and a narrow heel.

About 20 hours into X. I think I probably have a chance not to use shoe goo any more. That's the most part I hate 9.
The same area is still being scratched but the material is way harder.
Unfortunately, the shoe lace broke again. It is only because it is a little long so the loops are still being scratched with ground.

Just an update exactly 6 months after my purchase. My son was so busy and mainly did his lesson on clay court with his another pair of R9. The R10 was spent about 70 to 80 hours so far.
The outsole starts getting worn out which is at a similar pace to our former R9s. So outsole material looks the same.
The big improvement as I said earlier is the upper material. My son still got a lot of scratches on his left foot but I think the upper can still hold at least another 30 to 40 hours before I start putting on shoe goo.
Shoe laces are still weak. The one @Shaolin recommended does work. I hope there is a narrow version though. The Formula XL is pretty wide. I was able to put it through the narrow holes on R10 by basically folding it but it is a little hard to adjust
Insoles are also as bad as R9's. I took them out to compare with R9's and didn't see any difference. I now put a pair of Move Game Day. So far so good.
Any way, an green one as warranty replacement is on the way and I am going to use it for now until a better color pops up. The colors so far are meh....

I’m realizing that these treads are phenomenal on good courts, slicker surfaces can have some slipping on pushing off the court
