We will get a chance to dive into Ashaway strings in a podcast next week -- anyone have questions in particular about the strings and brand that you would like answered?!

Thanks,

I tried Monogut ZX when I was having arm pain many years ago. The string was very stretchy on the stringer so I expected that crisp gut feel. Instead, it felt like poly but with the arm comfort of gut. It was a very comfortable string so I've always been curious about more of the details behind the production.

1. Are there any new Zyex based tennis strings in the making?
2. Were there any developments of multifilament strings incorporating Kevlar and Zyex?

Why was the red color of Zyex so prone to breaking ? The natural color really holds up.
Dynamite Tough is my current favorite

When I look at the user reviews for Kevlar/Zyex hybrids, there are some who string the kevlar mains way higher than the zyex crosses and some who do the reverse. Does Ashaway have a recommended starting point for players trying these hybrids for the first time?

After trying a number of different combinations, I’ve settled on a full bed (black 17g) but it doesn’t pocket the ball nicely. When I’ve tried to go down in tension, it’s too powerful. Any ideas?

Also, is there a shaped Zyex string on the market. I think it would be brilliant in a square, hexagonal, etc... main. TY!

Your podcasts are far too long IMO.

You would be far better conveying any relevant information by way of an article, or transcript, or at least provide time stamps for the key sub topics, as sitting through an hour of random chit chat borders on torture! That way people can jump or skim to the part that interests them.

can you explain Ashaway's rational for offering minimal (less the 5%) savings when buying reels vs sets ?

If you're talking about ZX, that's been answered before - the string still costs as much to produce whether its 200m or 12m, save for the cost of the plastic sleeve. Zyex is apparently pretty expensive to produce so there's no real cost saving in producing reels.

I've got a question for them. What's the next big thing in terms of string material? We've had nylon, poly, nylon/poly mixes, zyex etc. Any chance Ashaway could produce a fluorocarbon based string with decent, lasting slippery coating? The Acelon FluoroExtreme string was amazing in terms of softness, power, playability etc (better than natural gut). when used as a cross but they closed down their tennis division to focus on their fishing strings.

ask them about prestretching, what they think of it, why they don't do it and if they will start. Particularly the zx but also kevlar.

Let them know they need to stay in business cause I can't play without kevlar and theirs is the best.

Finally ask them what they think of the Kev/zx ESP thread here.

I have been using ZX 16 beige as a cross with Kev 16 mains for the past 3 yrs. Strung over 150 times.... (3 juniors)

I have issues with it snapping (52lb) when pulling on my Electronic Stringer. I happens between 2nd to 6th cross.

When I use Sets , it would happen like once every 20 jobs... But recently, I went to an 660 Reel and its lilke once every 10 jobs now.

Very Frusttrating....

What is the history of the Ashaway and how did they come to be a producer of tennis strings? What newness do they have in the near and distant future of manufacturing tennis strings.
