Assistance with Babolat Origin tension

I have a pack of origin kicking around but am unsure what tension to string it at.
Background
Racquet: Angell TC97 16x19
Player: 4.0 mainly baseliner, spin off both wings, sensitive arm, like a soft setup
Std Setup: Silverstring 1.20 full bed 38 lbs on a drop weight
Other set ups that have worked well for me: PPC Mains 52ish/Silverstring crosses 47ish; Full bed PPC 52 lbs

Recommendations for tension for a full bed of Origin?
Recommendations for tension Origin Mains/silverstring crosses?

Thanks...i have never used Origin before.

We use origin a lot. We have an alpha ghost 2 and a b star 5 but my son has a table top gamma drop weight for school . Plus he has an angell tc 97 c 18 x 20.
Origin is no fun on drop weight system unless you have clutch. It is pretty elastic / stretchy...
We have found that in plays best it the higher fifties. Spin potential is on part with best for a nylon (polyamide ) string.
Plus it is a mono core so it does make a good hybrid option.
If you are a big topspiner, go with a hybrid.
More a flat hitter, go with a full bed of origin.
Its also has very good stringbed life....

But in that frame, I think you will be fine with silverstring @ 47.
and Origin around 52-54
either mains or crosses / your choice..

Played fb ppc 16g @55 ... 52 would have been fine

Played fb origin 16g @55 ... @58 would have been a minimum for me for control ... probably @60.

Agree with @CopolyX ... if you are spin sensitive ... fb Origin probably won't make you happy. I couldn't get enough spin ... or most likely would have been my string. Loved the way it felt. It would be interesting to see how origin/poly held up and spin potential. Origin as a cross ... a bit expensive for a cross ... but would be interesting to see how it held up with poly main.

Thanks folks. Will try a hybrid with origin in mains and silverstring crosses. Will report back once I give it a go.

Look forward to your feedback. Since you are a fb poly spin player ... it will be interesting to see how much spin you get out of it.

You can get more spin out of the 17G Origin , still not going to be as much as full bed of poly or even a poly / syn gut hybrid.

The Origin works get for folks that love a natty gut feel.. and for not spin monsters... seems to me

Good thing they make so many strings ... we all like different feel. I loved the feel of fb origin 16 ... and really did not love fb vs touch 16. I stick with 16 for control, durability ... tension maintenance. I have hit very few 17g strings, but have to say I loved 17g Cream.

Spin for me:

rpm blast 16 > velocity 16 > cream 17 > vs touch 16 > ppc 16 > origin 16.

Velocity gets me close to rpm spin ... have no idea how a multi does this.

Cream, VS and PPC pretty close on spin for me.

Origin was clearly the least spin of those strings for me. I could get decent ts from FH if I exaggerated low to high a bit, but really struggled to get any on 2hbh. Part of it was the 55# ... would have been interesting to test @60#.

My post TE arm gets Velocity for 2017. Spring 2018 ... ???

Full bed of velocity? Will have to try if so.

The problem with Origin at lower tensions is that the lack of slickness causes the strings to splay out in the sweetspot, with drastically reduces directional control and lowers the playability duration. Origin is still powerful and comfortable even at a very high tension, in which the mains and crosses remain as straight as a laser for long periods of time. If you're doing a full bed, I recommend using the 17 gauge at a higher tension, at least 60 lbs, and the level of touch and directional control will be supreme. In a hybrid, you could go much lower.

Don't forget to try the other way around, Origin in main works really well too. It adds power and comfort and takes away tiny bit of control.

Strung mine @40-45lbs usually and has no problem with control

If you have origin @40lbs in your racquet ... I WILL NOT be your doubles partner at the net while you are serving.

Okay interesting. Approx level of play? Do you hit with alot of top?

Approx 4.0-4.5, we don't have tournament like USTA but I evaluated base on matches result. We are able to hold off some (many) ex Junior National players, we did beat or play competitive against some claimed they are 5.0 from US.

The point here is that ppl have greatly exaggerated the level of control by stringing low, some strings don't lose their predictability even @ELT but (maybe) just a little bit of control. Origin is 1 of them.

No joking, i think gut/poly @ 30-40 is not over power at all as long as you can GET USED TO it.

So I had my first outing with origin.

52lbs Origin Mains/47 Silverstring Crosses on a dropweight in an Angell TC97 16x19

It was fine in all respects. Very soft, nice touch and I had no problem generating spin off of either wing. Hit some nice droppers. All in all, for me, it plays similar to many of the multi main/poly cross set ups I have used (which i quite like). So the question becomes durability. Hit for 1.5 hours today and it has some slight notching. Will hit again tomorrow for a couple hours.

What was your final verdict for this hybrid? What about spin?

ime b.origin worked best in fullbed only
its a comfort string
not a spin string!
not a durability string!
its a high power comfort string for low power rakets
i think of it as a cheaper alternative to natural gut
worked great on my wilson.ultra.tour

i did try it as a hybrid and did not like the feel, the softness got lost in the mix,,

Did you have any issues with balls launching out of string bed with too much trajectory and power at this tension ?? also in hot summer weather ?

That was a long time ago....but I don't think it lasted that long and thus didn't really justify the price. For multi/poly i had decent luck with PPC 16 mains and smooth poly crosses. If you are on clay with your phantom I don't think an origin main / poly cross will be that durable. At that time I mostly played full poly in the high thirties which was both comfortable and reasonably durable (i would cut it out at 10-12 hrs).

it is still better than natural gut/ poly.

Anyway... Babolat Origin is a great string for many things. Creating spin for me was not one of them. I have stated that I have not played the 17G and that might have produced better spin. It was one of the most stable strings I have ever tested. Like it would last forever. If I was a natty gut user I would be looking at this string for sure as a backup or replacement.

agreed,,
once i strung it up, i kept checking (after every hitting session), to see how quickly the string would stay out of place,,
it took several weeks to move, and the tension "feel", stayed pretty consistent
imo, i like b.origin full bed best.
def. worth a try..

I have used few Polys as cross with Origin (16g). Even though I liked some combinations, durability (on hard court) and Origin price does not justify using it in poly cross hybrid. Within 6-8 hours Origin is notched 75% or more and I am not a heavy spin player.

MSV Co-focus 17L cross -- Good spin, great power/control but I can 8 play hours max. My favorite Origin/poly hybrid.
Yonex PTP 1.20 or Tourna Black Zone 1.25 cross -- Good spin (Less than that with Co-Focus), good power/control. I can play for 10 hours max.
Cream 16 cross -- No good. Don't bother. I cut it out in 2 hours.

I bought Origin packs on sale more than year back when a store was going out of business. I have half set left from those packs, but after that I won't bother using Origin in hybrid with poly cross. Natural Gut hybrid (since I don't play on Clay) is much more durable (25 hours for me) and has better feel. I will be using PPC or Velocity main with poly cross in my backup racket.

PPC or V with poly cross would last longer than O with poly cross, on clay?

I can't say that for sure as I have never played on clay. So I don't know how clay affects strings. But Velocity 16 with Cream 16 cross (52/50 or 52/49) lasts me 15+ hours (compared to Origin/poly in same racket). I would definitely try this combo on clay if I were you.

My normal setup is gut/poly 59/53.
I just remember full bed origin played terribly for me at 60lbs. I don't wanna try it again but I might do 2 lbs higher if I had to.
