Asterisk Slams in the Open Era

We now have Thiem at US 2020 and Kodes at Wimbledon 1973 confirmed as asterisk slam winners among seasoned watchers.

How many other slam wins in the Open Era could join the Hall of Infamy?
All of them? Because tennis is an expensive sport, so the biggest talents don't have access to it, so they choose different sports, so competition is not that strong. Maybe you are on to something that tennis is the weakest among sports in history.

Asterisk!? For what!? The guy won his slam fair and square.
Oh, because Djoko baby got DQed. No Djokovic fan talked about an asterisk when Fed and Nadal decided not to contest this slam. They don't get to talk about it now. Besides, an asterisk is when a player is taken out of a tournament for reasons out of his control. Something like, well, Seles getting stabbed. Nobody asked Djokovic to throw the ball at a lineswoman. He did it of his own, knowing full well what the rules are, and he is responsible for the consequences as a functioning adult.

Are you saying Federer is mentally tougher than Djokovic and Nadal?

oh seriously?
may I ask your majesty for which reason?
cause beyond the 2 finalists, there were 126 juniors and TT keyboard warriors in the draw?

Djokovic is the best and will still win a lot. And he should stop throwing balls, even though in this case the DQ was a bit severe.

You will never see a worse slam final than yesterday ever again. It was shameful. That final set TB was comedy gold though.

Why is it an asterisk? He beat a slam champion, 5 seeds and 2 top 10 players.

Nadal literally didn't play a single top 20 player at the 2017 USO. That's WAY more of an asterisk.
Utter nonsense. Nadal did not put in a park level performance in the final. Every media outlet is saying yesterday has increased the Big 3 shadow. Thiem was great until the final. Then choked horribly.

Nadal lost sets to a lucky loser in the 3R and Taro Daniel in the 2R while Thiem dropped just one set til the final with huge wins over 4 seeds. He didn't even drop a set to Medvedev? Nadal's 2017 USO run is WAY more of an asterisk.

yet he is a GS winner, with another 2000 points added to his ranking, plenty of money flowing to his bank account as opposed to some salty internet trolls

But choked in the final. He is never beating the Big 3 in a slam semi or final. They will be so relaxed playing him from now on. It was a horror show.

And plenty of us here accepted the DQ as the right decision straight away. Spencer's comments won't change that.

Why would any Big 3 fan be salty lol. That is hilarious.

1. I didn't say any "Big 3" fans.
2. look at yourself, I don't know why you are so salty about Thiem winning the event

just move on dude.
your salt won't change a thing.
and you will be very embarrassed when Thiem will defeat Novak or Rafael next time in a GS.

That will.never happen. I expect far better in a Major final. Thiem reputation is lowered not enhanced. Less said about Zverev the better

He literally won? And I mean are we really going to talk about choking in a slam final? 40-15? And that comes from a Fed fan.

It's a joke to call this an asterisk.

Possibly Amelie Mauresmo's 2006 AO win...I don't think its ever happened before that a person's opponent retired in both the SF and Finals of a major before. She also had another opponent retire during their match in the first week. 3 of her 7 opponents retired. If she hadn't won Wimbledon that year EVERYONE would probably call her the biggest joke of a major winner ever.
