At what point does a self rated player get a computer rating

One of the guys that I hit with just got DQ'd with forfeits.

He played league for the first time in 2009. He self-rated at 2.5 and played 5 matches in a 5.5 mini combo league.

In 2010 he signed up for 3.0 league and was DQ's after five matches-- all wins. The matches were forfeited because he was still considered self-rated.

My question-- why didn't he receive a computer rating the end of 2009? At what point does a self-rated player get a computer rating? Is it the next calendar year, is it a year to the date of the initial self-rating?

A NTRP year-end Computer (C) rating only come from playing in the traditional adult league (such as 3.5 Adult Men or 4.0 Senior Women). I believe that a player must play in three matches to qualify for a computer rating.

A mixed exclusive (M) rating is from playing Mixed, but not playing adult league. You can still get DQed by the three strike rule, but the individual match results are not considered a forfeit (at least in Southern).

Playing Combo does not generate any kind of year-end rating.

Your buddy was still considered a self-rated player because he only played Combo, and therefore didn't generate a year end rating.
