ATG players getting shredded in a slam match.

The logic is Novak choking the RG 13 semi is what mentally destroyed him until Wimby 14, including Wimby 13. You will agree Novak was a ghost in the Wimby final. In any case, it was far from a beatdown, even the score shows it.

Repeating yourself ad-infinitum isnt going to make that much any less of a drubbing.

yea, straight setter but it doesn't mean each straight setter must be shredding (as OP established)..i can't call it getting shredded, maybe you can, it's ok, but where did you find here 6-1 or 6-2?

Where do we find it in this one of OP's examples?

"2000 USO final: Safin beats Sampras 6-4, 6-4, 6-3"

What about Wimbledon 1999 final? That was the best match Sampras has ever played. Agassi couldn't do anything.
I´d love to see a replay of that with the current Wimbledon surface and balls.

I guarantee Agassi would have won it - given that both players go back to their ages in 1999. Sampras the Energizer Servebot.

You have to question how one can not see djokovic was having all sorts of problems closing majors out during those years. He lost the edge and struggled with his tactics. His service game was not cutting it either. He had to get becker and revamp his mind and game.

It was. And you've failed to defend your stance. Which is why you're throwing random non-sequiters.

Too easy.
Losing by that scoreline is just not a beatdown in mathematical terms. Declaring victory in the face of reality just reveals your desperation and lack of capacity for critical thinking.

Can we get some adults in this thread?

Good idea. Grow up and stop insulting people just because you cant handle the fact that they don't agree with your opinion.

The irony of that first paragraph is unreal. Despite the fact that it was a straight set drubbing and the fact that you've used ever excuse you could to explain that drubbing, in your reality, this was something else.

Grow up.

It's amazing how Hewitt and Safin, portrayed as weak era mugs, soundly defeated Sampras in slam matches.

Hewitt was really good, he just was a victim of slow courts and poly strings. I think in the 90s he would have won 5-6 slams with his great return and passing game but hit flatish strokes didn't play as well against on slow courts against power topspin guys with poly strings.

Hewitt was basically Djokovic or murray but with less power and spin which made them more dangerous on slow courts than hewitt.

Yet he was in much better shape than Nadal was in 2015, when he was torn to pieces by Murray in the 2013 Wimby final.

People (and the current story-line) tend to minimize other players' acheivements to capitalize on the current trend.

To be fair, Sampras was a bit off in those matches, but Safin and Hewitt played unbelievably in those matches. A drubbing never happens when both guys are playing amazing.

I remember thinking about Hewitt, "who's gonna beat this guy, he never misses and he gets to everything". He really was absurdly good - as much as I've always disliked him - but then the injuries started.
Safin was returning Sampras' serve like he was facing Sjeng Schalken. He always seemed like a guy who was going to be inconsistent, so it wasn't too surprising to see him be up and down. He also had many injuries that people never really talked about, at least not in the same way people on the internet do now.

You know, real injuries.
Hewitt was the prototype for Nadal/Djokovic. But they had dangerous weapons (Nadal's forehand and Djokovic's backhand are the best in history) which allowed them to become the absolute machines that Hewitt couldn't quite become.

Don't know if you'd call him an 'All Time Great', but Courier got the beat-down by Edberg in the 1991 US Open final: 6–2, 6–4, 6–0

This was the same year he won his 1st French Open.

Repeating what I said back to me just shows how uncreative you are. Feeling threatened because it's so easy to see through you?

The example that most comes to mind is Connors slaughtering Rosewall 6-1,6-0,6-1 at the 1974 US Open. Also, McEnroe beat Connors 6-1,6-1,6-2 1984 Wimbledon. Curren thrashed McEnroe and Connors back-to-back Wimbledon 1985 (6-2,6-2,6-4 and 6-2,6-2,6-1). Lendl beat Connors 6-4,6-2,6-2 1987 US Open. Edberg beat Wilander 6-1,6-1,6-2 1990 Australian Open. Haarhuis beat Becker 6-3,6-4,6-2 1991 US Open. Agassi beat McEnroe 6-4,6-2,6-3 Wimbledon 1992. Agassi beat Edberg 6-4,6-3,6-1 1995 US Open. Kafelnikov beat Sampras 7-6,6-0,6-2 1996 French Open. Chang beat Agassi 6-3,6-2,6-2 1996 US Open. All under 10 games dropped.

That would apply to Novak fans moreso than anyone else.
But thought you'd do so when you saw Murray's name mentioned?
Nah that most aptly describes butthurt fred fans (a lot of gloryhunting brits included) dreading the inevitable surpassing of their idol in the next 8 months or so. Frednatics casting stones from glass houses as usual.

Has Muzz truly beaten down anyone in a slam is the real question? If you were real muzz fans you would get behind 2008 USO, though of course the beating he received in the final kind of overshadows that.

They see what they want to see, whatever suits their narrative. Once their hatred is laid bare they shrink back into their shells.

What bothers me is that they are even not trying. If they would try at least to find their own reactions from that time on that match, none of what they said would ever come out in the open.
These are people who constantly live in cognitive dissonance. They don’t try because they lack the self-awareness to see their own hypocrisy. In an anonymous setting their ugliness comes out because they feel they can avoid being held accountable. It’s sad that there are so many people like this in the real world.

I've just given you 2 examples. Not my fault if it upsets you to hear of Murray doing it. An ATG getting straight setted by a non-ATG player at a Slam and especially in a final is notable. If it isn't then I don't know what is.

Wimbledon 2013 was not a beatdown (i.e. getting “shredded”) which is the topic of this thread. It doesn’t upset me, it’s just clearly an attempt to prop up Muzz undeservedly. I would accept 2008 USO, but even that isn’t good enough for your agenda it seems.

Hate to say it but after the first set, the 2015 quarterfinal between Joke-o-Vic and Nadal was very one-sided.
