ATGs and 60% years , including streaks

Looking at clay, there are 51 player's seasons who had 60+ game win % on clay since 1990. This is 18 more than on HC.
Coincidentally there are 17 player's seasons with game % between 60 and 60.99. So removing those we get 34 almost like on HC.

Taking minimum of 10 matches as even Nadal has had only 10 matches in COVID 20.

Nadal makes the list a whopping 15 times. Only years that didn't make the list were 2015, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Top 10 seasons all belong to Nadal where minimum he won was 65% of the games.

Djokovic makes the list just 5 times but that is more than anyone else.

Courier, Bruguera, Muster, Coria, and Ferrer all made the list multiple times.

Agassi, Federer, Berdych and Alcaraz made the list 1 time.

Federer in 2015 was 61.55% on hard and 58.82% on grass, and still won no slams. Only the most winning HC player in history could prevent him that, and still some call Federer lucky lol.

Has any 90s born player ever been over 60% on any surface?
No. Medvedev was very close in 2021 , 59.93 on HC. That is the closest anyone has come.

Coincidentally Medvedev is the only player between Murray and Sinneraz who reached world number 1 (he would reach number 1 in 2021 itself if not for covid rankings)

Only 21 seasons on grass with players winning more than 60% games and playing more than 5 matches, and at least making R16 of Wimbledon.
Grass season is too short so its very hard to find the stats that make sense.
Eg. a player plays 2 250s , 1 before Wimbledon and 1 in newport and wins both beating no top 10 and loses in R1/2 of Wimbledon can technically make 60% win rate. So need to remove such outliers.

Restricting to player's seasons winning just 59.5% of games on grass instead of 60% will give same number of players as 60% on HC and 61% on clay. 34 player's seasons.

Djokovic ended up having 7 years with close to 60% games won on grass. He did it for four years in a row from 2018 to 2022.

Federer second at 6 years. He did it 4 years in a row.
Murray third at 4 years.
Agassi fourth at 3 years.

Edberg, Sampras, Nadal made it 2 times.

Djokovic has more seasons on grass with over 59.5 % of games won than on clay winning 61% of games won. Grass suits him better than clay.

Sampras with only 2 years on grass is mind-blowing. Nadal's 15 years on clay is absolutely hilarious. Even a bad Nadal(by his standards) is great.
Sampras put everything into his attacking game. That leaves him lesser on breaking opponents and made every year pretty close.

Tie breaks played per set in Wimbledon.
Sampras 19.64%
Federer 17.55%
Djokovic 14.24%

Let’s talk about who he played and where they were in their careers :D
Cilic in 2018 Queens club and Nadal Anderson in Wimbledon.
Federer in 2019 who won Halle that year and almost won the whole thing.
Berrettini in 2021 who has won Queens club that year.
And Kyrgios in 2022 who had his best season that year with 6 top 10 win and 3 titles.

Cilic is 35, Fed is retired and Kyrgios is semi retired. There is zero gotcha.
Only Berrettini is still active and becoming a good player again after many injuries.

Very similar field to Federer from 2003 to 2007. With Nadal Hewitt and Roddick playing the same role.

Sad as it must be for you , there is no gotcha here.

Federer at 65%+ on grass over 12 matches while returning with a disadvantage, i.e., a one-hander, is outrageous.

Djoko’s improved serve helped him stay above 60% even when the return declined

Read your post again and you'll find that it is :whistle::whistle:

Not tragic at all. Between Sampras and Nadal only fed was there. It's same thing. Sampras career ends at 32 and fed and Nadal careers end at 38/36.
If you look at surface all Big4 was over 60%, some of them in many seasons. Its 14 years between Sinner and Djokovic/Murray, i dont think that has happened before?

It is what it is. Before 3 of the big 4 arrived , it was only Federer coasting through similarly low tier players.

You can see when the years of 60% on each surface of big 4 happened and how many grand slams Federer had already amassed before that.

This type of conversation can go in loop forever. But truth is above 60% is pretty big number and very few players achieve it. It's a matter of pride when attained but not matter of shame when not because that is high bar.

Great work, very impressive. Greatness on hard is clearly key to do well there. Impressive to see, if logical in hindsight, how consistent some were…

Murray is nerfed on this surface by Nadal but nadal's stats don't measure up as well as Murray. Nadal had to fight a lot in his wins.

Fed probably had the highest competition on grass besides Boris Becker.
Nadal early on, Andy in the middle and Djokovic at the end is deadly combination. Plus Roddick and Hewitt.

The way he almost reached Wimbledon 2016 final was shocking. Beating very good players in the way.

In last 30 years.

60% game win rate on hc -
1. Djokovic 9
2. Federer 6
3. Agassi 6

61% game win rate on cc
1. Nadal 15
2. Djokovic 5
3. Many 2 year holders to name.

59.5% game win rate on gc
1. Djokovic 7
2. Federer 6
3. Murray 4

60, 61, 59.5 these are different thresholds because of the nature of surfaces. It's much easier to dominate game on clay than grass with breaking serves. And all three thresholds limited total number of years to around 35.

Simple enough to get to.

Also breaks new propaganda that djokovic is better on clay than grass. Or Nadal is anywhere close to fedkovic outside clay.

While also showing Nadal is so dominant on clay that no one else is close.

If you look at the power baseline era, i.e., 2000–2025, or more precisely 2003-2025, you will not find any one-handed BHs on these lists other than the obvious one. The only surface on which you have people getting close is on clay since it’s harder to get to a right-handed player’s BH unless you’re a lefty. You have Tsitsipas, Thiem, and then in the very early 2000s you have Corretja and Gaudio for a season.

It just outlines again what a massive disadvantage it is to play with a one-handed in the modern era.
