What is your prediction for top 10 players 1 year from now
Some key points
Do you expect Djokodal to end as top 2
Do you expect Federer to remain in top 5 or even top 10
Does Thiem or Tsitsipas or other next gen have a chance to be ranked no 1.
My predictions
1. Thiem
2. Nadal
3. Djokovic
4. Zverev
5. Tsitsipas
6. Medvedev
7. Federer
8. Rublev
9. Sinner
10. Shapovalov

Djokovic has the best chance to end number 1 next year

He won a ton of points at the beginning of 2020,but they won't drop because of the new ranking system which will be valid till IW

He has a lot to gain at IW, Miami, MC. Things will get tougher from Madrid to Wimbledon for him. Thiem has a chance to get the rank 1 here since Rafa would also be defending a ton of clay points. Rafa and Thiem can takeover in this part

Novak lost all points at USO and defends Cincy. Rafa defends Montreal and USO. Thiem defends USO. Best chance for Novak to consolidate.

Asian swing will be open to all three of em equally. Can't say anything about indoor rn.

Therefore, Medvedev will end YE #1
He has been sh!te in 2020 Lel

Chances are high that Federer will be out of the top 10 by the end of next season.
:D

My predictions
1. Thiem
2. Nadal
3. Djokovic
...
These three will be top 3, but I see this as the least likely order
Do you expect Djokodal to end as top 2
Yes, likely Djokovic #1, Nadal #2
Do you expect Federer to remain in top 5 or even top 10
Top 5 no, top 10 yes
Does Thiem or Tsitsipas or other next gen have a chance to be ranked no 1.
Thiem yes, Thithispass no (and no thanks)

1. Djokovic
2. Nadal
3. Thiem
4. Zverev
5. Tsitsipas
6. Rublev
7. Federer
8. Medvedev
9. Sinner
10. FAA

On a side note, Kyrgios will break top 20 again.

Good question. I think it'll be pretty similar to what it is right now, though:

1. Djokovic
2. Nadal
3. Thiem
4. Zverev
5. Tsitsipas
6. Medvedev
7. Federer
8. Rublev
9. Shapovalov
10. Schwartzman

Bonus: Sinner knocking on the door, top 15 but not yet top 10.

I can't work out why this years Roland Garros points will drop off in June but the AO points stay until 2022.

1. Djokovic
2. Thiem
3. Tsitsipas
4. Nadal
5. Zverev
6. Medvedev
7. Federer
8. Shapovalov
9. Schwartzman
10. Raonic

My reasoning for Nadal is he doesn't do well in first and last quarters. Thiem seems to have better potential next year.

1. Thiem
2. Djokovic
3. Tsitsipas
4. Nadal
5. Zverev
6. Shapovalov
7. Medvedev
8. Sinner
9. Schwartzman
10. Federer

Bold prediction:
1. Federer
2. Nadal
3. Djokovic
4. Murray
5. Davydenko
6. Roddick
7. Del Potro
8. Simon
9. Blake
10. Ferrer

1. Thiem
2. Djokovic
3. Nadal
4. Zverev
5. Rublev
6. Federer
7. Tsitsipas
8. Berrettini
9. Schwartzman
10. Shapovalov

Big ROFL at anyone thinking that Thiem has ANY shot against Djokovic in the rankings next year. Djokovic has at least 2750 cemented at the start of the season, Thiem can’t realistically expect to win RG while Nadal is around AND he can say bye bye to Wimbledon, given his resume there.

How exactly will he become #1?

Matching Djokovic in hard and outperforming him in clay, while falling behind in grass is my guess.
Djokovic is pretty old. I expect a bit of decline, especially after the late 2020 clusterf*ck. Similar situation with Nadal.
While Thiem is in his prime and shouldn't decline - might actually get better. So I wouldn't be surprised if he leapfrogs both next year.
He has also removed the 'slamless' monkey from his back.

1. Djokovic
2. Sinner
3. Thiem
4. Nadal
5. Federer
6. Zverev
7. Tsitsipas
8. Shapovalov

Are you aware that Djokovic will keep 3165 points from 2020? With almost 2000 point cushion over Thiem and even more over Rafa he is a big favourite to finish 2021 as Year End No.1. Of course it can happen that ATP will make some adjustments and decide that for Year end No.1, 2020 points will not count and will be used only for week by week rankings, but it will look very strange if the Year end No. 1 player will be different than current No.1 player based on ATP rankings come November.

I can't work out why this years Roland Garros points will drop off in June but the AO points stay until 2022.

Points are protected till IW 2021( first tournament canceled because of covid), after that date points will be replaced by 2021 and 1Q 2022 tournaments when they are completed. In case of RG it will be June 2021, and in case of AO January 2022, if the calendar will not be altered again like this year.

It is a pity that it is like that but it is after all a decision of the ATP.
There is nothing more to add.
:(

But if Nadal loses first round in FO 2021, he'll lose his points from FO win in Oct 2020? :-D :-D :-D :-D

So Nadal's FO win during the pandemic will last 8 months, while Nole's AO win dating back to before the pandemic will last 2 years. Yeah, YE#1 is skewed.

Nadal’s 2000 USO points from 2019 don’t drop until Sep 2021

I guess it’s the best they could do to not penalize players that chose to sit out tournaments due to the virus
Yeah, there are good arguments for sure for the way they are dealing with the world rankings. It's just striking to see the FO win 2020 will last 8 months while the AO win 2020 will last 2 years (of course USO 2019 win as well). But maybe they'll change rules again to make FO 2020 not drop in 2021 due to pandemic.

I'm cheating here I know but:

1. Djokovic
2. Thiem
3. Nadal
4. Tsitsipas
5. Medvedev
6. Zverev
7. Wawrinka
8. Federer
9. Raonic
10. Felix

Yes I got Wawrinka over Fed, mainly on just playing more events and clay. I'm smelling a Slam SF from him.
