Murray having to play qualies to get in. Ben Shelton I saw play Isner in Atlanta. The kid is the real deal, looking forward to his progress

Lol "the real deal". The kid is turns 20 in a month and is ranked 250. Kids his age like Sinner and Alcaraz are Top 10 players

Exactly. I just watched a quick video of him in a recent match and his game doesn't look anything special. Just looks like a worse version of Alcaraz.

I don't care how slow and grindy it is a Murray vs. Wawrinka match is for all us former competitive athletes who suffered serious injuries. HUZZAH!!!

He's in on ranking, actually. Was not given a WC.
The qualies draw displayed yesterday on the ATP app listed Murray as a WC and #3 seed. I can only guess from that fact that he made a last minute decision to try and qualify after losing 1R Montreal. Apparently, he was higher ranked than Musetti at the cut date to now get the DA over him when the SE wasn’t used.

Yep. Draper lost last night so he wasn't eligible for a special exemption. Murray was next one up to get the call to the main draw.

Yes, he had signed up for the MD and ended up being first alternate, but had not initially signed up for qualies - so he had indeed required a WC for those. But when the SE slot left open for Draper was voided, the first alternate gained direct admission to the MD, and that was him. Musetti was nowhere near that, as the MD entry list closed the week before Hamburg, when Moose was still waaay back in the rankings. The seeding instead is based on the most current rankings, therefore Moose gets the 1 seed for qualies. Draper instead gets the double shaft: pc-boosted out of Canada, and left out of Cincy as well. He'll presumably resurface near my old stomping grounds in the Piedmont Triad.

I hope Rafa doesn’t win actually, no need to play 6 matches and aggravate the ab issue. Plus playing b2b isn’t kind on his body. There’s no need to go all out here.
The first 8 seeds have a bye in the first round.
That's 5 matches (potentially) for them.
:)

Draper was to play Vancouver Challenger. That might have fouled up the SE option.

I adore Cressy, but if he'd be Serena he would get coaching warning(s). But here obviously no one cares.

It's because she's black and everyone's racist. Like when she threatend the asian line judge to kill her, that line judge was just a racist who hates black people.

Then stop this crap my guy. It's a qualies match, umpires generally don't see it that tight in those stages. Serena pulls it in semis and finals in a packed stadium with 20.000 fans and millions watching. Completely different scenario

It's a main draw.

and RULES ARE RULES. No coaching is allowed in a pro tennis match.

As I said, umpires don't see it that tight in early stages. Everyone does it. Do it in a final and you'll obviously get a violation.
That's against the rules. I've seen players got penalised in early rounds of challengers for that. So no, it's not a minor offence. But umpires and their styles are different.

Where have you been since Wimbledon? The ATP has agreed to experiment with allowing both verbal and hand signal coaching during the USO Series tournaments. The verbal communication can only happen when the player is on the coach’s side of the court and in between points. The hand gestures are OK full time.

I was thinking the same, wondering if I missed something and they changed it back.

Shapovalov and Khachanov took the first set.

Bopanna is still a very sharp doubles player!

Shapovalov missed an easy volley at the net....
