No Nole this year, but Laslo Djere, Miomir Kecmanovic, and Hamad Medjedovic are among the hometown representatives.

Seeds:
1. Alex de Minaur (10)
3. Francisco Cerundolo (29)
4. Jiri Lehecka (30)
5. Nuno Borges (34)
6. Brandon Nakashima (35)
7. Tomas Martin Etcheverry (40)
8. Luciano Darderi (43)
9. Mariano Navone (45)

De Minaur is trying to grab one of the final berths in Torino, and he has a sizeable ranking advantage over the rest of the draw. Will the Tasmanian Devil decimate the draw or will a resurgent Wawrinka or other contender pull off a surprise?

Marozsan has already defeated Shang in what appears to have been quite a battle.

Matches to see:

Shapovalov v Fucsovics
Nakashima v Medjedovic
Djere v Wawrinka

If Adam wins this title, he will guarantee himself a spot in Torino
And if he doesn't win the title with this field, he doesn't really have any business being in Torino.

Unless Djokovic decides to play after all, ADM is already in Torino. The players behind can't overtake him and Rublev.
Frankly I think he has more business being in Torino than Rublev and Ruud. He has been much more consistent in Grand Slams.

Does Darderi currently have the most inflated ranking on the ATP tour given he's a clay court specialist through and through? Won 1 match in his last 10 which was against Thiem in Vienna.

Shapo somehow loses a TB from 6-2 ahead with 2 serves and 2 returns. 90s gen in a nutshell right there :-D

Why are so many one-handed backhands in the Belgrade Open?

6 out of the 28 players in the draw.

Wawrinka
Lajovic
Sharapovalov
Altmaier
O'Connell
Kovacebic

5 out of 6 won their 1st round matc
2 in the quarterfinals but they are playing each other.

Cilic is a disgrace. Takes about 30 seconds a serve with all that ball bouncing. Hope he loses.

Eh, he's actually tends to rush his opponents to the line, then he looks across to see them as he plans his serve. I could think of a few players who could stand to be so deliberate.

Shapo vs Lehecka looks interesting. Good to see the 'Night Train' star back on track.

Edit: I remember their first match in Rotterdam a few years ago. Think that was Jiri's breakthrough tournament.

Shapo actually reaches a SF, coming in as a qualifier. Could he take down Lehecka, or does his run end here? The winner of this should be the favourite for the title, although we can't discount the home advantage that the winner of the top SF will have ...

Is something wrong with Lehecka? Not moving much out there and looking really flat. Can't believe Shapo has played well multiple matches in a row.

I certainly didn't have him making it to the semis (probably the final) in the last tournament of the year (while going through qualies) after stinking it up for about 2 years on my 2024 bingo card.

At gym, not watching. Could it just be Shapo’s level is too much for Lehecka at the moment? Score line looks like a blowout…. Hoping Shapo doesn’t melt down.

Shapo just took it 6-2 6-1

Shapo played well for sure, but Lehecka didn't put up much of a fight. Commentators mentionned that the lower bounce probably plays into Shapo's hands, but this Lehecka had nothing to do with the guy who beat Nadal in Madrid. I wouldn't be surprised if it was his back, he wasn't serving very hard, some around 170 km/h on first serves.

Good win for Shapo, it'd be pretty nuts if he won this tournament.

On a tennis court far, far away, in a battle that never took place on screen...

Denis "Luke Onehander" Shapovalov will battle Hamad "The Young Jedi" Medjedovic in Belgrade. The native son will surely have the crowd support, but TTW is lining up behind the resurgent lefty.

Hamad burst onto the scene at the ATP Kiddie Finals a few years ago, but still has yet to break the 100 ceiling, although he came aching close with a career-high of 102. I believe a win should catapult him just inside the top 100.

Denis playing well is good news, and has not been the case for much of 2024. Finding his game in the last few weeks of the year could be a launchpad for starting the new year off on the right foot.

Hamad won the ATP Nitto finals last year, at the end of 2023. He had injury issues first 4 months of this year, started playing a little better in the middle of the year and it looks like he's finally getting back in form now. If he wins today, he'll reach top 100 and be number 91 on monday on ATP list.

It may not be any coincidence that Denis's recent run of form and focus may be in large part due to a pending coaching change to former world #8 Janko Tipsarevic, per the following article:

Plus, it seems he's getting along well with his recently-adopted custom-made EZone 98D (an 18x20 EZone 98), which, if I had to guess, gives him more string bed consistency and forgiveness, which I think anyone seeing him hit would agree he needs as much of as possible, and probably feels more like "home" considering his 6.1 95 roots:

Will be interesting to see if he can keep it all together for the final.

If Shapo keeps his cool there is no way he is losing this. Pressure is all on Hamad ... way too streaky player

Shapovalov wins his 2nd title and 2nd at ATP250 level after a long gap of 5 years since winning his 1st (2019 Stockholm).

Medjedovic misses out on joining Bonzi as a maiden titlist at his home event this week.

Djokovic presents the trophy to Shapovalov:

Very cool. Thanks for the video of Djok presenting a very happy and animated Shapovalov with the trophy;
that was somehow fitting. Maybe now (as someone else remarked) he'll go all Wawrinka on us and
start bagging Majors. I hope so!

Yah man, good job by Denis, finding momentum & getting it done in straights. Not sure if a player has received a trophy from one of the Big 3 before, but a nice touch for Novak to present the trophy.
