Missed the boat this year. Have fun!
I reckon the Giovanni vs Kygrios match will be ... close lol

I was surprised at the high level of the Kyrgios returns. Has never been the best part of his game but he was really reading the placement and nailing them. His serve of course was as expected. He showed no signs of injury so hopefully he recovers well and performs well in the singles.

Just saw the highlights of Djokovic-Kyrgios, it looked like a lot of fun. Say what you want about Nick but he makes the tour more interesting/fun at times when he's focused on not being a clown.

I didn’t get to see this – how do was play instincts look? It’s not easy to take a whole year off and then come back and play.

People are always surprised when real talent shows. Kyrgios is real talent. You can’t teach that kind of feel for the ball

More highlights Egg-Clownios

Visit by the trainer after 1 set of servebot tennis, not a good sign for St Nick's fitness.

Lol second game of the 2nd set and he's blabbing about how much his arm hurts.

Does he actually train or just show up on match day?

Following him on instagram, he has been training with a bunch of ‘pros’ for the last few months who lose in futures qualifying and are unranked. Basically people who make him look good on the practice court.

Now his wrist is flaring up because he is playing someone who actually hits the ball hard

His footwork was not good. I know it’s never Nick’s strong suit, but he really looked slow and sluggish in any type of protracted exchange, even within the protective domain of doubles. Might need quite a few matches to get in rhythm of the game. Everything is much faster paced now and Nick hasn’t played at main tour level at all really for 2 years. It’s a long way back.

The match really was a showcase for Djokovic, who looks like he has returned to something like his 2019 AO form. He was pretty amazing.

Djokovic playing solid vs Hijikata. Nothing to write home about but it is a first competitive singles match in quite a while..

6:3 4:3 atm

The serve is firing well though...

To be fair to krygios he did decent on his first singles match back. A close match but he obviously lacks some sharpness and fitness. Credit to perricard on the win.

I wasn't even sure if he was ever coming back lol. I think he can still cause some problems.
He can. As he’s extremely talented and has a great serve, FH and he can hit those flashy shots. He needs to work on his fitness and maybe by Wimbledon he can be a big threat again

Djokovic looks slow from highlights.

When he is on the ball, he is striking it exceptionally well. But when had to hit on the run, lacking power.

Will see more this week for sure. Monfils can make you run a lot.

Kyrgios look pretty good for someone who hasn’t played in so long. I thought he did well from the back of the court as well although his opponent obviously is not that much of a test from the baseline. On the other hand, I’m not sure if you played some other opponent that he couldn’t break a few times and win a match since his serve looks so good although again the returner was really poor. Giovanni has been broken 4 times over his last 10 matches and is a nightmare to play against.

Don’t think he was exerting himself against his opponent because his opponent really has no path to victory. Djokovic is easily the third best player right now whom neither Carlitos nor Sinner would like to play.

I watched the match, pretty much agree. Djo was great on offense, and Hijikata gave him a lot to attack. Perfect first opponent, good workout but no real threat.

Dream draw for Djokovic. Monfils up next whom he has not lost to in 19 meetings and who is older than him. Then Opelka - whom he has never played, but who has no weapons to hurt him given what Djokovic does to big servers - or Arnaldi. Seeded to meet Tiafoe, who again doesn't match up great to Djokovic and anyway might lose to Mpetchi Perricard again.

And possibly Dimitrov in the final, which is almost another Monfils situation. Of course, anything can happen, but if Djokovic is playing well, he really should win this title.

Nick’s got some soul searching to do I think. Losing the second round of a friggin’ ATP250 dubbs tournament when you have Novak GOATovic as a partner is not a good start.

What would be a tough draw for Djokovic in this rinkydink tournament when Sinner and Alcaraz are not playing and neither are the other top players who are in the United Cup. The #2 seed is Dimitrov!

This is a 250 though. Can't expect too many top players in this category. Having Djokovic, Dimitrov and Rune is massive for a 250. Not sure many other 250 this year will have 3 top-15 in the draw. Some 250 don't even have 1 top-15.
