Pretty tough draw for a 250. Alexander Zverev leads the field, with Holger Rune and Lorenzo Musetti also making the trip down to Buenos Aires.

Local favorites include Sebastian Baez and the Cerundolo brothers. Diego 'El Peque' Schwartzman comes out of retirement to take on Nicolas Jarry.

Should be fun!

Zverev starts at least one step above everyone.

Aside from the child prodigy Fonseca returning to clay in this new dimension, I'm very curious to see how Musetti will fare.
Having few points to defend compared to last year's indoor tournaments, he can emerge from this tour on South American clay with his new best ranking, but there is a difference between saying and doing.
Also in 2023 he tried to gain points here in South America and it was a disastrous experience.

Fonseca looking very comfortable on the Argentinian clay.
Yah Man. No need to rehearse the clear talent, and conviction with which kid plays. What an attude/demeanour at such a young age. Straightforward win over Etcheverry, no sweat. Can he lift the trophy here as an entree to his campaign for this season?

Schwartzman / Jarry back on serve - hoping DS can somehow win it. Interesting to see the Cerundolo brothers contesting their next match against each other.

The crowd got to him I think. He must have made those last two errors by centimeters. Gotta say nothing beats a passionate home crowd in tennis

Yes. It did. Diego is also playing some of his very best and Jarry is being forced to work real hard here.

Got to feel for Diego having to reach up for those monster Jarry kick serves with his tiny little arms. He's playing that little heart of his out though, nice to see.

Whistling when a player is serving?...and the second serve too?...and for a set point? Umpire should do something, maybe keep giving the player his first serve until the crowd knocks it off.

Jarry played like garbage, was probably nervous because of the crowd. He made more UE's than Holger Rune playing with a flu. Embarrassing.

Yah man, he plays with heart, what I like about the dude. Flagged a bit in the 2nd set, but the break in the 6th game of the decider backed up by the hold was excellent. Good job to get through. Crowd did its bit, no doubt.

Sasha ought to get through in straights against Lajovic just broke him in the 2nd set.

I hope the older Cerundolo gets through (and he should based on ability but family dynamics can get weird). He had a good match against Zverev in Madrid where Francisco beat him in straights.

The Moutet match wasn't even televised (as far as I can see), but he won as expected. Made it farther than Jarry!

I guess you missed the tournament in Chile last year, where the crowd was being ridiculous in favor of Jarry (whose dad even owns/runs the event), and Moutet still took him to school.

See above. Jarry deserves all the hostile crowd treatment and then some!

Fonseca doesn't have to destroy the ball on every shot. Learning to use controlled aggression on slow clay courts will be very important for his development...

However, the hype towards Fonseca is something absurd which I hope does not become harmful for him in the long run.

He literally has an entire nation (the size of a continent) expecting him to be the new Kuerten even though he entered the top 100 a few weeks ago.
I'm the first to say that expectations are part of the game, ergo, if you don't want to be at the center of public opinion, change jobs, as a high-level professional tennis player isn't for you.
Sometimes even we simple enthusiasts exaggerate with the expectations aimed at young people, but here we are truly at the most extreme there can be.
Passionate Brazilians like few others are literally idolizing him as if he were already number 1 in the world, therefore making bedlam during all his matches, or clogging up Fonseca's various platforms "Brazilian pride" "The next number 1"

Relax, let it breathe a little.

I don't see him becoming a victim of his own hype. He doesn't give into the hype, like his idol Nadal.

He is going to emulate Nadal on court very likely. I don't see mental issues at all. He is not getting lost into his own hype despite being from South America.

What I worry more about is how the schedule will badly affect the poor guy as South American tennis gets replaced by oil rich Saudi
