Yes, Joao Fonseca is known for being humble. The 18-year-old Brazilian tennis player has described himself as "just a boy from Rio de Janeiro living his dream". He has also spoken about being able to handle pressure.

Explanation
  • Fonseca has been described as a humble prodigy who sees himself as equal to others.

  • After his debut at the Australian Open, where he beat Andrey Rublev in the first round, Fonseca spoke humbly about his hard work.

  • Fonseca has said that he was born with a gift for being calm.

  • He has also been described as having "superstar quality" and the ability to handle pressure.

  • Former Aussie Open champion Lindsay Davenport said that Fonseca has talent that can't be taught.

Kind of a tough match for the Fons against this clay court veteran. Good to see how he managed to steady the ship after losing the 1st set.

Yah man, word. Kid is a superb talent. May have a blind spot, but can't see Rune or Navone beating him in the qf. Will it be a Sasha /Joao final?
Inevitable for Diego too, dude touched many hearts in his time. Hats off.
Players like Rune are their own downfalls. They don't have a forehand like Fonseca when that is the ONLY thing they need to win on the tour. First get Forehand at that level and then add up rest of the game.

Rune plays WTA style.
He's got WTA ups and downs, that's for sure. I think everything stems from his shoulder/arm posture. he keeps them too low and close together
Look at this stance. It's abnormal.

Holger Rune does not really want to win as much as he once did. It's been clear since Wimbledon 2022. Today, he hit 39 UEs. On clay!

He does make a lot of UEs. Not only with the forehand, but the backhand in the net is a major issue too. He's not enjoying himself anymore. That's clear to see.
The backhand errors are definitely more worrying. He was making a lot of them against Zverev in Paris Bercy if I remember correctly.

The big question is, why after playing indoors in Rotterdam on fast hard does he fly to the other side of the world to play on clay?

Probably thought he'd get some easy points. He used to be good on clay. He used to be a lot of things. Good at serving, not anymore. His volleys are still pretty good but his approaches often aren't. To use a Danish expression, he often plays with his head under his arm. You can imagine how that goes.

Well, I do think he maybe needs a little more time to acclimate on the surface. Rio will likely be a better showing from him. And he still has Acapulco afterwards before the Sunshine Double, so you kind of figure he wouldn't have as much motivation for this tournament. I guess we'll find out next week.

Musetti looking very strong. He's beefed up his serve and the forehand is really heavy. Moutet is clowning around though, he knows he doesn't stand a chance today.

MTO for Moutet. Ankle looking bad.

Whenever a scheduling decision appears unexplainable 99% of the time it’s because of appearance money. It’s as simple as that.

I think he arrogantly assumed that players would just roll over and the wins would automatically pile up. Since that hasn't happened and he has to put effort in, he's having a bratty meltdown. Guy isn't going anywhere.

Holger Rune is once again at the center of controversy after his elimination at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires. The Dane, defeated by Mariano Navone, held a controversial press conference, which lasted just 87 seconds, during which he criticized the conditions of the fields of the Argentine tournament.

“It wasn't a good match, I made too many mistakes,” Rune declared laconically, visibly irritated. “My goal here was to play good tennis and I didn't succeed. It has nothing to do with playing in Rotterdam two weeks ago, where I got sick, but that's the way it is."

The most controversial statement came when he was asked for his opinion on the organization of the tournament: “The event is well organised, but the courts are not good at all. For the rest all is well. Good atmosphere, great weather.” When asked if he will return in the future, he replied dryly: “I don't know, I haven't thought about my calendar for the next few years yet.”

Later, on social media, Rune tried to correct the situation, admitting that he returned too soon after the Rotterdam flu and complaining of problems with his right shoulder: “When the body doesn't work, the mind shuts down. I regret not being able to show the version I wanted of myself. Sorry, Argentina.”

Rune is an abomination of a Tennis Player on court. Anything he can do to disrupt his opponent or to go mano a mano with the crowd he does it. Just play tennis young man, you are not Novak Djokovic. Keep your focus and concentration on the tennis court.
