We're playing in Athens, but Torino looms large over the final tomorrow. Novak Djokovic has already secured his spot in Turin and will play for his 101 title against Lorenzo Musetti, who desperately wants to make it to the YEC. He needs to beat Novak for only the second time in 10 meetings if he wants to qualify, but he has raised his level this past week. Will it be enough?

Who takes home the title and makes the final decision on direct entries to Torino?
 
Musetti seriously has been like a man possessed this week. His determination has been very impressive, and he hasn't had it all his own way, but he refused to let anyone stop him.

Wawrinka was two points from beating him, Korda was one point away from beating him. Both times Musetti shut the door in emphatic fashion and went onto win. The guy is playing very good tennis, Djokovic needs to be on it in the final, or Moose will make him pay.
 
Anything can happen these days with Djokovic if he has an off-day, but he is surely the clear favourite to win another title.

If Djokovic isn't going up play Finals, he should announce it and it might reduce Musetti's motivation to give everything to win in the final.

djokovic would want to help the tournament, no? if he announces before the final musetti might even withdraw

That's the prime reason why he won't announce now or even before tournament start
Getting museti to play was bcoz of announcement delay
 
Musetti has determination of ATP Finals on his side and Novak's ailing body.

Novak has home court advantage plus edging closer to beating Fed's title count and being Realistic World No. 3.

It seems pretty even and I expect a final worthy of the 500 level.
 
One thing working in Musetti’s favor is that all things being equal, at this point in their careers he just hits a bigger, heavier ball than Novak esp with his FH

Novak will try to serve big and keep his returns and groundies deep like always. But Musetti does what Djoko doesn’t like, which is a lot of direction and tempo changes with the BH and big topspin bombs with the FH. Lorenzo is also serving big right now. So the hard court could help him hit through Novak. That’s probably his only shot

This is a good point. We have seen LorenzUh-Oh give up when matches get difficult in the past. But he fought back from the brink with the toughness of an ATG shaking off rust. Was amazing
 
...it's not necessary for everyone to know that he has decided not to go to torino...the one who needs to know has found out... ;)

As previously said, I think this is arguably the most focused and determined I have seen Musetti in a while. His will to win has stood out for me, he knows what is on the line. He is also closing the gap on Djokovic, and yes, he will have his chance in the final.
 
Should be a great fight but hoping for 101 today!

This is Novak’s best chance for another title. He still quite fresh only playing 3 games and won them all in straight sets, he in form and he likes indoor HC,

Musetti playing decent and motivated to make atp finals and get another title. Djoko wants 101, break tie with Fed for HC titles and winning if we can say his tournament in his new home country.

Let’s see.

I agree. Musetti been very focused and determined. Interesting to see his energy levels though after a long match and playing after Novak.

Novak saved more energy winning his matches more comfortably. That said musetti is young and he will be battle tested too.
 
Huge game for Novak to hold! With Novak it is a race between trying to win a title before getting injured again. Can he beat Father Time to title here before body fails?
 
Its quite funny.

Both have a green shirt, but Djokovic has black shorts with a white arm sleeve, and Musetti has white shorts with a black arm sleeve.

Like I said it hard for Djokovic to win anything tournament as there will always be a form player like musetti waiting for him and he fighting his body too. It is like trying to win a slam for him as it super tough.
