ATP 250 Buenos Aires 2026

The other quarterfinals coming up later:

Ugo Carabelli vs. Báez (an all-Argentine clash)
and
L. Darderi (Italy) vs. P. Martínez (Spain)

N.B. Since Darderi was born in Argentina, talks like an Argentine, walks like an Argentine, and probably thinks like one too, I’d say that unless Martínez wins the tournament, the outcome will be very pleasing for me.
I’m being openly chauvinistic on purpose—just to make sure nobody dares post in my thread.

My friend, I'm here! We Turks have a trait: we don't leave anyone behind. So don't worry, you're not alone.

I've been watching the tournament on Tennis TV since day one. But honestly, it's very hard to watch the matches from start to finish. The broadcast and image quality aren't great. There's barely any crowd. Because the sun is so bright, the color of the clay court doesn't come through properly on TV. The players are battling in that heat with the best intentions, but it's not very enjoyable to watch.

My heart is with the Argentine people who gifted us Maradona and Messi.

Greetings from Istanbul

Hi there,

I’m making an exception to my above-mentioned restriction policy to thank you for your support.

I’ll speak with the officials at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club (an odd name for a venue with no grass courts on the premises) about lightening the orange shade of the clay to enhance your viewing experience starting next year.

Saludos, y buen fin de semana

All semifinalists were born in Argentina, three are Argentine citizens, and the fourth is Argentine-born but naturalized Italian.
They’re playing today on the following schedule (local time):

16:00
Cerúndolo F.
Etcheverry T. M.

18:00
Báez S.
Darderi L.

I was born in a small town near Amsterdam, close enough to qualify for being part of this thread.
I nearly put money on Darderi to win against Baez, and then didn't do that because I like Baez, also.
They just finished the 1st set, Darderi wins it in a tiebreak. It's still anybody's match, though.

@Sudacafan You do realise that now you will be forever nagged/petitioned to start a thread for any 250+ tourney in any South American city if it isn't posted already by the date play begins?
For example, next week's ATP 500 Rio tourney in Brasil doesn't have a thread yet. I request that you post it. Darderi is scheduled to meet J.M. Cerúndolo in R1 there in two days.

OK, but this weekend Carnival starts. Monday and Tuesday holidays. I’d like to be in Rio for that.

I just started this thread because the tournament is now playing in QF stages in the town I was born and raised, and it seems nobody noticed.

Tabilo - Etcheverry, now playing first QF match in a Transandean duel. Etcheverry will now serve for the match.
Please accept my apologies for not noticing but I was distracted by virtually everything else.

This tournament going forward should be restricted to players born in Buenos Aires. It is devolving to that anyway. In addition, you should be the only poster able to post about it. I will submit appropriate applications to both the ATP and TTW.

I’ve always believed that the best way to impose restrictions on people is to distract them with just about everything else.

I’ll be working with the AAT (Asociación Argentina de Tenis) to introduce a ban on players not born in Buenos Aires starting in 2030.

By then, I predict the highest-ranked Argentine will be outside the Top 500, so we’ll have to get creative to preserve the tournament’s ATP status.

As a Frank Cerundolo fan I'm often frustrated that he doesn't do well enough at stat-padding his ranking at these sorts of 250s, despite seemingly entering every single one on the calendar. Right now he's up against clay vulture supremo Luciano Darderi, the man who has swept the bright lights of Cordoba, Marrakesh, Bastad and Umag over the last two years - meaning he has one more career title than Cerundolo. Good news for the Cerundobros is that he's up a break in the first set - not that that often means a lot.

The final is being played in a really great atmosphere. Darderi started to find his rhythm toward the end of the second set, but we'll see whether it will be enough for him to stay in the match

I couldn’t watch the match, as I was away in the country. I’ve only read the news.
My apologies for being such an irresponsible OP in my own thread.
Proud of Fran Cerúndolo for his new ATP 250 title, and a bit disappointed in @MichaelNadal for not showing up to support his “interesting-faced” player.

Argentina sounds like a blast. My dad married a woman from Argentina, I have 2 half sisters that are half Argentine and speak Spanish.
