Argentine Juan Martin del Potro earned his 150th match win on Tuesday at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships, as he dismissed up-and-coming Lithuanian Richard Berankis 6-4, 6-1.
The 22-year-old Del Potro went on a five-game run to build a set and 3-0 lead and saved all five break points faced on serve in the second set to clinch the victory in one hour and 16 minutes.
“It is positive for me to get through to the next round… After a year out of competition it is very tough to come back,” del Potro said. “I am improving match by match. I made two semi-finals in two weeks and my game is improving tournament by tournament.
“I was very focused in important moments, especially on break points. I knew that would be my chance to beat him. And I had more experience than him. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, with lots of Argentineans. He has a very good future. He has the chance to be in the Top 20 for sure.” ...
