The OP says 4-9. It needs to be updated.
i was hoping to 'beat' lendl with nastase... missed, but not by much !So Lendl has the most 5 set wins and matches played in the Open Era. Interesting. I figured Connors would have played the most.

it's a good offer, isn't it ?![]()
Geeze! ... already running out of room in the OP (10,000 characters max). I believe the match record links are utilizing a ton of space.
I was forced to pare down the text and may need to split up Active / Inactive players. I'll probably move the Inactive Players down to Post #3 as I think the match record links are essential.
Perhaps a moderator can delete post #2 (which is a waste of space) so the Active and Inactive players hold the first two posts in the thread.
For now, let's continue verifying records of players currently listed and I'll continue linking them until space runs out once again. Let's try and refrain from adding any new players (unless significant).
Any other suggestions?

This is a nifty list. Thanks for the info. Please keep it updated.
Hewitt's and Sampras' records aren't surprising. What does surprise me is Safin's, given his rep as a major headcase. And as a few other posters have noted, Nadal and Djokovic are still in their prime and probably have more 5-setters awaiting in the future when they're no longer the young, feisty players of today. As always these stats need to be put in context.
That said, Borg's record is just otherworldly--not unlike his other records, actually. It'll be interesting to see if Nadal could stay even with him till the end, and if Connors has a comparable record himself.
You should probably remove the players who only have played a handful of five setters and establish a minimum number of matches (10 or 15??)
Tsonga is off to a great start with his 4-0 record, but is he really more clutch in 5 set matches than Nadal? The percentage stats would say so, but he hasn't really played enough.
i think this sort of means federer is either on or off. if he even gets taken to 5 he's probably having an off day. whereas nadal can change gears WITHIN a match. He can start off badly or have bad play in certain sets and still come back to win. It's interesting !
Fed is really bad when the going gets tough.
Borg and Nadal are the best fighters but of course, we already knew that!
Thanks for posting the stats Bud.
