I still glad I gave my tickets for the final away. There won't be much to see there tomorrow.

As for the final, Shelton is the favorite but Perricard could upset him. If I had to pick a winner, it's Shelton, but I think Perricard can cause an upset.
I think I actually favour Perricard if both plays well in this final. His serve is much better than Shelton at its best and neither of them has good return (especially against big serves).

this guy's second serve is bigger than most guy's first

tell me he's going to break the record for fastest serve ever at some point, but it's going to be on a second serve!

Thoroughly outperforms. Look at the second set pts won by shelton. Not even close to Perricard. Baseline pts won. Almost even.
And that after possessing far better, KILLER serve.

I will go on a limb and say, today 98% of players would have lost to Perricard. Someone like Alcaraz/Sinner only clear favorites.

Even the mugs like Zverev etc would lose.

It just looks like he got served off the court. I've seen Mpetshi-Perricard play when the serve's not clicking though, and it's not pretty. Still, nice to see a world in which a big server getting hot leads to a title. That's been pretty rare in recent memory. Hopefully, he can continue to become more consistent and present a threat to the newer generation of guys who don't return big servers particularly well.

Yeah, but guys of the past who were great at neutralizing big servers, like Fed and Murray, would mostly feast on this guy. Just not a lot of that around at the moment. Carlitos is definitely prone to being served off the court. Not so sure about Sinner, though, and am too lazy to look into the statistics, though you, being a stat guy, probably have something in mind.

Yes but it did today. It was not just a serve masterclass. He was in many return games vs Shelton as well.

Although Shelton's total of 10 aces in two close sets is respectable, GMP's 22 aces are extreme. That rate would translate to 55 aces in a tight five-setter -- enough to set the all-time match record if done in a Wimbledon final (the current finals record is Federer's 50, but that was in a long match that was the equivalent of about seven sets).

Perricard came out as total wildcard. Not even an option in the poll.
I actually fully expect him to reach SF after seeing the Duckworth - FAA - Shapo/Agut line-up. However, the way he made Rune, a very good returner even if not at his best, a complete bozo on return is absolutely scary.

Yah man, kid can play. Pleased to see him take his 2nd ATP title this year, and hopefully spring-board into an excellent 2025. No one will want to see him across the net if he continues in similar vein.
Perricard going places, thats for sure
Dude seems packed and ready - like his demeanour too.
