Might as well get an official thread and poll on it.

I wouldn't be too upset if Rafa didn't win this, but I'm sure he wants to, so I'll pick him for the win. As I said in the draw thread, I hope Davy makes it to the semi. Wish he was on the other side of the draw. Would like good things for my other favorites as well including Safin. Probably not likely, but continue to hope and all that.

Also curious about Gasquet and his recovery.

Gil might be a tough opponent for Nadal in 2nd round, maybe the toughest qualifier to play. At least Nadal isn't playing doubles on clay this year, that will help him to save some energy.

Ferrero-Nalbandian in 2nd round should be a great match.Robredo-Gaudio could be a good one too.

Andreev-Seppi is the match of the day tomorrow.

there are some very good players in this, and many of them played monte carlo and would probably play rome too.. i would like davydenko to win back some points, hes played surprisingly well at monte carlo coming back from injury of more than 3 months.

If i'm wrong, please let me know, but it doesn't look as tho there's an english translation option on the Barcelona official website. Maybe they'll add one later in the competition?

Until then, we'll rely on our spanish-speaking friends and/or good old faithful google translate @ http://www.google.com/language_tools

There is an English option, Love_Game. In the bottom left, there are three little circles, click on the third one which represents the British Flag. The three options are Catalonian, Spanish, and English. Also my above link to the website and OoP are in English.

my Heart says Gonzo, but my head clearly says Nadal...

I wish Gonzo gives the surprise here

Argentines in Barcelona

Of course, I love Rafa, and I'd like to see him take home his 15th ATP shield, so I'll probably pick him to win Barcelona. OTOH ...

... I couldn't help noticing that my Argie fave, JM del Potro, isn't playing Barcelona ... hope he's okay and is just resting up, getting on course for FO. So, naturally, I was wondering which of my other favorite Argentines are playing this week. The only one who's seeded is Nalby, and he's seeded 7th.

Argies in the Draw
NALBANDIAN, David
GAUDIO, Gaston
MONACO, Juan
CHELA, Juan Ignacio
CANAS, Guillermo
ACASUSO, Jose
JUNQUEIRA, Diego
VASSALLO ARGUELLO, Martin
SCHWANK, Eduardo

LG, Barcelona is not a Masters so winner gets no shield.

He will probably get it in Rome or Madrid though.

ooooops  thx, gj :)

sooooooooooo ... our favorite serbian is also taking a pass on barcelona, but TIPSAREVIC and TROICKI are checking in, with Janko scheduled to play A. MONTANES (first up on court central at 10:30 a.m.) and Viktor to play M. YOUZHNY in the first round. What are your thoughts on those two matchups?

Have to go with my man Stan.

Hi, norbac! :)

yes, stan the man gave quite an account of himself in monte carlo and miami before that. he definitely seems to be coming, well i don't want to say out from the shadow of his countryman, but you know what i mean ... he's finding his own place in the sun. i'm still mad at him for beating igor in miami, but i'm getting over it! :D

Tipsarevic got schooled by Montanes last year in Hamburg, so am not sure he can win this, but with him you never know.

Youzhny is not playing well lately and he is not at his best on clay, so I think Troicki has a chance there.

^^^ Thx, gj :) ..... i didnt know that about tipsi and Albert, and AM did okay at casablanca and monte carlo ....... here's another one i'm thinking about ..... first up on Pista 1 @ 10:30 am, namely, Mr. Match Point:

Igor ANDREEV
vs.
Andreas SEPPI

If Igor doesn't win this one, I give up!

Ernests GULBIS (LAT)
vs.
Potito STARACE (ITA)

It's the 3rd match on Pista 1 ..... Erno needs to get back his FO 2008 form, so this is a good place to start.

Hey, LG!

Stan has really been doing well lately. Hopefully he can keep it up. Clay is his best surface and this could be his breakthrough year. The victory over Federer should give him a lot of confidence.

This is a very nice field, a lot of interesting possibilities Nadal-Gasquet, Nadal-Verdasco, and Stan-Davydenko all sound intriguing. I would also love to see Ernie do well here.

that is one stacked draw for a 500!

unfortunately my guy will most likely face nadal in the second round if he doesnt tank it against LU

Tell him to get a haircut.

Did anyone notice? Marat has a WC. He must be serious about improving his standings before Wimby. He is now in top 20s for the first time since Jan 06. Over 3 years! Over 3 years! Thats perseverence. Davai, Marat.

I went with Davydenko. He must be feeling great. Two months out with a foot injury and he was so close at knocking out the #2 clay player in the world, as someone described him on another thread.

How could you use the words "tank" and "gil" in the same sentence? well, you didnt exactly, but .....

so, their match is last up on pista 3. i've only seen lu on hard, such as when he took out nalby so early at the AO, but just off the top i cant see him taking gil out on clay ... can you? really?

Tell him to get a haircut.

as you can imagine, i would dearly love to do just that ... even if i like his hair just as it is. he could never pull off one of those safin-type haircuts, but he could pull off my . . . anyway, mr. match point has once again won a match point! yay!

and tipsy is also back in the clubhouse!!!

Love. in all honesty i can see him (Gil) winning as well as i can see him losing. it's a match. they both want to win and you can always have a bad day. it's clay, sure, and is Gil's natural surface but you never know right? im not that kinda tennis fan that goes arrogant on his player's good moment. baby steps... baby steps... that's my aproach!

i know one thing... if he goes down, He is not going down quietly...!

Hi, pal, why not show some optimism this time around? Your guy looked pretty good against my guy last time I checked, and btw, isn't Rafa gonna be "exhausted" after eating his Monte Carlo trophy?:)

Potito busted back on Gulbis (not a surprise however, though I was disappointed again wow) 4-6 6-3 6-3. Starace can be tougher on clay, but again Earnests just dropped off.

i dont know about the exausted part... what i know is that if he goes tru his fist opponent who is rakend above him, he will face the number one player in the world in what is both´s prefered surface... where the stated number one seems quite unbeatable! of course im optimistic but i'm also realistic! hoping for the best while waiting for the normal...

Gulbis is about to complete another collapse for the ages!
Whats wrong with this guy? He hasn't been beyond the second round this year. As a matter of fact, the last time he got beyond the second round was at Cinci in July where he got into Q. That got him his record ranking of #38 and he has dropped only down to #42. Hardly a slide for a record that does not seem to amount to much.

Vemic is no nobody. He is good doubles player. Made it to SF last year on FO and currently ranked 38 for doubles.

Vemic/Safin vs Troicki/Stepanek :) I wish I could have seen this match.
