Felix won, but a good fight from Rune. Second set could have gone to both of them. Rune slightly unlucky with the blinking signs at a crucial stage, but should not have let it irritate him so much afterwards
I don't think anyone doubts Rune's ability. It's his whining people cannot stand. He's got that part of Lendl's personality down pat, and mixed with the "I'm always the most talented player on the court" attitude of McEnroe/Connors, it's a recipe for many people to dislike him. I like him less than the Ziraffe, less than the Philosopher...

The difference is that Lendl wasn't whining when he was 19 years old in 1979. He started whining in 1983 when he won 15 tournaments and became #1. Rune has no business acting the fool when he's won only 2 events.

I do think his career will blow doors off Zverev or the Greek. He will win slams.

Felix looking absolutely amazing these past 3 weeks. Hope he bows out after a couple matches in Paris though. The kid needs some rest for the ATP Finals. Should be among the favorites with Med and Novak
I haven't been watching, has Toni been present at any of these events?

I think he gets far more stick than his actions deserve. He is really not that annoying. It's not like he is acting like a child in every game. Hardly seen any antics this week..

First impressions are hard to erase. The venom against him all started when he was 16 and he claimed he would topple the career title count at RG by Nadal. Then he tacked on his homophobic slurs aimed at an opponent during play at a Challenger in June 2021. A year later his obnoxious mother added a few more branches to the bonfire by trashing Ruud before the Scandinavian RG QF. There’s definitely a trend that developed and it will fester until he develops some good press and results at the highest levels.

FAA on a real roll. 4 titles this season (2 at ATP500 level, 2 at ATP250 level) and 3 in the last 3 weeks. He now joins Alcaraz, Nadal, Djokovic and Rublev with at least 4 titles this season!

2022 is turning out to be his come-out year. Can he go even better in the last 2 biggest events of the season (Paris and Turin) ??

Felix looked great at this years AO already. Barely lost against Med who was on fire for months. If he can carry momentum into 2023, he'll be a deep threat on HC and grass majors. Dude improved his terrible finals record of 0-8 to a more respectable 4-9 now. That should really get his head straight for now

FAA's serve has the potential to be in the league of A-Rod and NK. It's such a devastating shot.
Boy, I have to disagree there. For the calendar year 2022, here are Felix's serving stats (not including Basel) for first and second serves:

Felix Auger-Aliassime198km/h (123mph)166km/h (103mph)

Roddick and Nick's velocity is way above what Felix is delivering and with more accuracy too.

I'm not saying you are incorrect, but can you quantify what you mean by Roddick and Kyrgios having velocity "way above"?

As an aside, both have/had fantastic serves that would be an upgrade for the vast majority of other players, but given the velocity and relatively high service % for Roddick, I always felt he didn't get as much value out of it as he should have. Too much reliance on pure pace, and didn't usually take advantage of placement as much as he could have.

Why speculate two months before a draw is made? He made AO’22 QFs and lost to Med in 5, long before this uptick. It’s certainly reasonable to expect a match of that result but so much will depend on the draw.

Paris-Bercy is next week and Turin comes in three weeks. If he wins tomorrow and adds one or both of those titles I would expect he will be a top 4 betting favorite.

Because slams and Masters are where its at. We've seen plenty of 'potential' from all these young guys; they need to step up and push the geezers off of the slam gravy train.

I don’t disagree about their importance but I will wait to see a draw before predicting whether he can win any tournament. For example, at the next important tournament he’s benefitted by receiving the 8th and final bye for a bit of a breather after winning 13 in a row. He’s also placed opposite Alcaraz in the top half. I favor him reaching the final again. If he’s there, he has a recent win vs Joe Kovic at LC but suffers the same coaching dilemma vs Nadal highlighted at RG. I give him a 50% chance of strapping on a second set of braces two hold up his shorts next Sunday.

Cheap Felix didn't buy any pizza after his big prize money was given to him......Cheap, cheap,,,,,,,, sorry ballboys ,,, NO pizza this year.............

Didn't look like Rune ever got comfortable in this match. Showed only glimpses of letting loose on his groundstrokes like he did during his win in stockholm.
He was pressured from the beginning so kudos to FAA for firing straight out of the gates and never letting up - a well deserved win.

Two pages for this thread. If it were any two of the Big 3 involved, it would be at least 1000% more. Get ready for tennis ratings to drop considerably.

Félix is unbroken in Basel 2022 !!!!

Two other players were also unbroken on their way to the trophy this year:

Fritz in Eastbourne
Nick in Washington
