Speaking of which, how will the Sunday start align with the Hamburg final?
Two tired players will beg for mercy, merci.

RG organizers had to know this would happen. I would expect both finalists will get started on Tuesday and the losing SFists on Monday. RG usually doesn’t plan more than a dozen or so 1R matches for opening Sunday so there should be wiggle room to avoid playing back to back days at the two different tournaments.

True, but I was thinking more in line of what if the Hamburg finalists can't play on Sunday in the 1st round. Because the draw makers can't possibly now Thursday who the finalists will be when they create the draw.

And because it’s neither customary or mandatory to have a full half play on Sunday, the schedule makers as opposed to the draw makers can navigate around the conflict. When they issue OoP for Sunday they will know the 4 Hamburg SFists and their matches will be off limits for Sunday.

What I never understood is why the 1st round matches in RG take 3 days while the other slams have perfectly managed to distribute them over 2 days.

Length of clay matches and no lights until this year. Now they have one court with lights and quite a bit less daylight illumination in September/October as compared to May/June.
I have read that only 4 courts will have lights in RG from the next year. But I hope it doesn't have later problems like Wimbledon's 23hrs curfew.

I guess the conditions are really heavy?

Serve numbers were poor in the Ruby-RBA match and likewise in this match. Conditions looked heavy in the first match, haven't watched this one.

Very clutch set by Ruud, but lots of hard work in the bargain...

I like the way Humbert and Ruud have just used each other if there has been doubt about calls. Nice to see. And a pretty nice match by two players we will see a lot more in the years to come. Humbert is really something.

14/14 matches won when Ruud is up 1 set to 0.

If Garin wins this is 4 of the The top 10 clay quarters in the world; let's hope Guy Fraudget Doesn't bottle it.:sneaky:

Schett at first match set temperature dropped 15° during the match. Paris a bit warmer but a lot of cloudy/rainy days in the forecast so I expect very similar and of course they will play much later into the night so I think this next match will be a preview of second evening matches at Paris and what we just saw pretty close to an early evening match:eek:

Ruud a tad unlucky with draw again, may have actually gone further than R3 last year and could go further this year if not for Thiem
oh well good decision by his team to vulture points here. This clay season has been wrecked and it's held his rankings back probably considerably so got to get while the getting is good.;)

this whole rankings freeze situation is an absolute travesty to the younger players. it's like being held back a year in school or something.:sneaky: Ruud probably top 16 rolling into Paris if things had not happened. at the same time the later French open this year in Rome is a benefit to the younger players because they're even stronger when they get to play on clay.

Where do you find this list of best clay courters? Or did you calculate yourself?
The current order with best ranking in 1st column.

Chop Fed, Delpo, and Kei gets Garin to 10 currently. Ah, but no Rublev.

Very impressed by Rublev beating RBA. I’m starting to have more hope in the next gen. This tournament is a huge step for them as a whole.

What a great semis line-up. I'd like to see Garin v Ruud in the final, but also wouldn't mind Garin v Rublev if anyone is going to upset that final match-up.

Quality display against Ruud. Commies claimed Ruble 3rd in points won on first serve for the year.o_O Rublev excellent 2nd return game, but in these slow conditions its working on first serve as well. Rublev’s weaknesses; 2nd serve and movement just don’t matter so much in the slow conditions.

Rublev been hitting big first serves in Hamburg

Several up around 217-218 km/h or 135 range.

He's making strides with his game and physique. Clearly bulked up a tad during lockdown.

Tsitsipas looking comfortably like the better player. Meanwhile Garin keeps glarin' at the court to scare it into giving him better bounces.

Edit: after going down 5-2* Garin manages to bring it back to 5-5, not too bad.

Garin taking 2nd a world of hurts for Tsits. Garin 14-1 in three setters on clay.o_O

Good win by Rublev. Figured it was a 50/50 match, but he definitely beat up Casper pretty good. Meanwhile, 3rd set in the Garin/Tsitsi match.
