Perhaps interestingly, the top 3 ace leaders are also the top 3 "first serve points won" leaders too.

The other players are letting my comparison down though. Ancic only makes it to number 7 on this list.

1. Ljubicic, Ivan 79 78 (percentage / matches)
2. Roddick, Andy 79 63
3. Federer, Roger 77 95
4. Haas, Tommy 76 67
5. Calleri, Agustin 76 49
6. Mirnyi, Max 76 45
7. Ancic, Mario 75 72
8. Berdych, Tomas 75 69
9. Soderling, Robin 75 55
10. Lopez, Feliciano 75 48

Wow, Nalbandian, at #66 in aces, with 178 aces in 57 matches; it basically shows you how good he is... to be a top player without relying much on first serve; if Fed was 66th in aces with 178 aces, would he be #1 in the world?

What is more interesting to me is the average # of aces per match. Ljubicic has 12 per match, Roddick has 11 per match, Federer has 7, Nadal's average is 3.5, Agassi has 9. Karlovic has 18. Looks like Arthurs is the best with 19.

I still think Roddick has the best serve. I'm sure he would lead the unreturnables category, and that's what counts. He can also back up his serve a hell of a lot better than Karlovic.

Goran:
1994-1,169
1996-1,477(broke his own record)
1998-1,065

Roddick in '04:1,017 aces

Look at the years...I think we won't be seeing new records in most aces in a season. Not in a season where Wimbledon is turned into green clay.
I think Goran can be pretty sure nobody will break his record ever. No mather how many matches he played.
It's sad to see what has happened to tennis. But I guess that's a different subject... :-(

Yes. 7 aces per match aren't that much.

I am not too sure, but i think in a game in an AO a few years ago agassi got 41 aces fired against him and still won in 3 or 4 sets. Who was it that was serving them? Joachim Johansson? And if my memory serves me right, agassi didnt have any unforces errors in the last set which he won.

edit: I just checked it and it was round of 16, Australian Open 2005, Johansson fired 51 aces against agassi. 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 7-6(3) 6-4 was the score.

Meh, Agassi used to get aced loads. Doesn't matter though as he was more interested in getting a good hit on the ball rather than just getting it back in.

Agassi hasd the same thing with karlovic a few years back 2... I would love 2 c a stat on the server with the most unreturned serves...

Look at Arthurs at 30.

30. Arthurs, Wayne 308 16

Averaging almost 20 a match ;)

I know!!! I just did some math (it's been a while and I'll suffer next semester for it) and he and karlovic are very close to the 20's per match.

Arthurs edges him out by like .5 aces per match.

To be honest, I dont think this is clear enough who is the better Acer. I think a stat for ace per service game is more appropriate. Some players get into to many 4-5 setters which would grant them more aces. You have to think that players who only play minimal amount of sets per match and still have a lot of aces are the actual better Acers.
