I think the rankings should benefit players like Wozniacki even MORE. The ranking system lets players like Serena, Venus, and Kim just cruise by at majors. Everyone here thinks that the rankings suck because it lets players like Wozniacki be #1, but she EARNED the right to be ranked #1. Don't you see? If players get to be top 10 by playing 8 tournaments, it'll just hold the game back. They won't have any incentive to compete at Masters or 500 point events, aside from tune-ups. If they're FORCED to compete like everyone else in a point system that would leave them in the 60s-70s the way they're playing, I bet you they wouldn't have so many "injuries".
Ranking system should look like this:
If a player qualifies for automatic entry into the minimum number of events and is under the minimum number of events:
Ranking points * (number of events played in the last 12 months)/(number of minimum events): In the event (number of events played)/(number of minimum events) is greater than 1, it's value is changed to 1.
If a player qualifies for automatic entry into the minimum number of events and is not under the minimum number of events, or a player does not automatically qualify for a minimum number of events:
Ranking points * 1
That seems like a more than fair proposal to me to make people play a set number of events. This should increase the importance of playing the minimum number of events at least a little.
If the WTA had a minimum of 20 events, this would put Kim at #7, and the William sisters around #60. This would at least get the players to play 15 events IMO.
