I will be sharing my thoughts today with you at some point. ;)
Your bargaining posture is highly dubious, but very well. I will provide you with a new body and new troops to command.

The ATP is guilty of enforcing the TV just to get at one player. I wouldn't put anything past them. They are only people after all. Look at the way they are bowing and scraping to Kyrgios when he cares not one jot about their code of conduct. Another player would have been more severely punished.

Those are things that actually matter/have consequences. The sportmanship award is meaningless, they personally have nothing to gain from rigging it. I agree that others deserve to win it but the players who vote in it are probably just lazy imo and pick Federer.

If the ATP can rig their own code of conduct by enforcing a rule mainly against 1 player when if they used a shot clock it would be glaringly obvious that very few players stay within the time limit, they can do anything. They don't have to nominate Federer for the sportsmanship award every year do they? He was even nominated in the year he swore at the umpire. It's all fixed.

They refuse to use a shot clock to enforce the TV rule then witch hunt one player; then they nominate Federer for the award every year even when he hasn't shown great sportsmanship by swearing at the umpire and when he hasn't played a full season. Federer is the only player who is nominated every year by the ATP for the sportsmanship award.

It's all marketing of one player by making him look as if he is a class of his own. Rafa replaced Fed as the fans' favourite years ago, but Fed has won it for 12 years on the trot.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

What about Tank of the Year ? It's usually closely contested until the very end of the season.

Nominees:

Bernie
Nick
Fog
Paire

Nick made a powerful move last week. The others need to step up their game.

Again like I said, it's the players who nominate, not the ATP themselves. You can dispute this fact all you like but until you have concrete proof, it is not fixed.

If it's done right, Delpo should win for comeback IMO. Federer cannot win the sportsmanship award this year. He has enough now, and he played less than half the year. And I think Pouille or Zverev should get most improved.
Put 2 and 2 together, Steve. ;)

Players get sportsmanship and popularity mixed up. That's why Federer is always nominated and wins most of the time. It's pathetic to have an award named after Edberg, a model of sportsmanship on the court (when sportsmanship was correctly defined), that has been awarded to Federer more often than to its namesake. They should just rename it the Roger Federer popularity/fanboy award, which is pretty much its function nowadays.

Agreed. Imo the players who vote are too lazy so they just pick Federer. That and the fact that sportsmanlike behaviour from lesser ranked players often goes unnoticed means Federer always wins it

People crying over Federer's nomination is hilarious. Yes he doesn't deserve to be there imo but it is voted for by other players and nobody else;
Well I'm surely not 'crying' over Fed's nomination (as silly as it is ;) ), and yes indeed, it's the other players who vote, but as I understood it, those other players only get a small selection of players to be able to vote for in the first place.

And oh-what-a-miracle, these selected players usually are at least three top dogs added with perhaps what I call an 'excuse character' to be included (I remember Ljubicic playing that role, once...). Correct me if I'm wrong, here.

This time it's even worse - ALL of them being (former?) top players. So I think it's valid to conclude that this award is no more than a popularity contest aimed at fanbois.

Like I said, it is NOT the players who nominate it's the International Tennis Writers Association. The players only vote for the nominees. Who adjudicates the conduct of the nominations? Have the ITWA not noticed that Federer hasn't played for most of this season. Does anyone really believe that the ITWA actually nominated Cilic the year he came back from serving a doping ban in 2014?

I don't think I have ever seen Federer concede a point. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way Federer isn't the only candidate. Players are probably too lazy to give a damn about who actually displayed the best sportsmanship so just pick Federer because it's easier. I don't get why you care so much about a meaningless popularity award.

I care because I like fairness. If Fed wasn't on the list of nominations every year the players wouldn't 'vote' for him every year if they actually do vote for him. I also care because if it's worth doing it's worth doing well.

Good point. The only problem I had to begin with was you saying it was "fixed/rigged" I certainly think there is quite a bit of bias in Federer's favour but I wouldn't say it was "fixed"

Is that not part of being a good sportsman?

To be fair I think I've seen him do it a couple of times but I cant remember when.

How can it not be seen to be rigged when the same player who is not any more sportsmanlike than the rest wins the award for 12 years on the trot except for 2010 when Nadal won it.

Anyone else but Del Potro winning the come back award is non sense. Can't believe Federer is in the sportsmanship category, he barely played this year. It should go to Wawrinka or Nadal. Improved player, I'd go with Thiem.

So he is not the most sportsmanlike if you can't remember him doing it. Djokovic and Nadal do it ALL the time.

You don't think he is but other people do. That's the whole point. The entire thing is subjective but a waste of time if you ask me

neither have i, but he is honest tho... wawrinka and fed played. fed got it out as wawrinka fell down but nobody saw it, the point was awarded to fed who told them he had hit it out giving the point to wawrinka. he could have asked for a replay of the point but chose not to.

LOL. Every year we hear how this is a meaningless award. Yet the usual suspects come crying and whining every year. Which is it?

Lol at Federer getting nominated considering he's been out of the game since July and has only played 7 tournaments and yet #1 Novak didn't get a nomination.

That is precisely why he should get it.

He left the Tour and didn't want to torture the Djokovic and Nadal fans.

Sportsmanship at its finest.

But .... why aren't they voting for the fair, fanloving, beacon of sportsmanship rusty peak injured golden Bull?

:(

You think they actually count the votes? They tell us they put it to the vote but I doubt they even take any notice of the so called vote. Can't you see that I put 'vote' in inverted commas, that means I don't believe the vote has anything to do with the result.
