Who will win?

What a wonderful selection of players. So many of my favorites are there. Gonzo, Almagro, Youzhny, Hewitt, Berdych, Chardy, Kohlschreiber. But I went with Cilic for the win. He is due.

We need a poll for the third tournament that is going on next week.

Didn't realize Kunitsyn climbed that much up in rankings.
Kunitsyn is kinda quiet. He beat Safin in the finals in Moscow which was a real shock for Safin who had beaten Davydenko. And recently he beat Ferrero in Barcelona, Canas in Miami and Andreev in Memphis. Has climbed from #110 where he was a year ago to #38. Pretty darn good for a player who gets no recognition whatever. I mean a guy from Vladivostok who lives in Vladivostok deserves some respect.

Maybe I got false information on Hewitt playing Estoril..but he will certainly win THIS tournament without losing a set.

Or Almagro will dominate.

If gonzo's out I have no idea who to pull for, don't like Cilic on clay and Almagro has been in odd form since the start of the European clay season.

Interesting little match between Zverev and Beck in the first round, the 2 biggest surprises of the clay masters so far.

Maybe I'll cheer for PHM?

PMS???????????????????

I'm hoping Kiefer can make a miracle at home..
That would be something else. He is 31 and was down to 400 a couple of years ago but pulled back into top 100 last year and is now #29. I know that some people don't like him for some reason, some behaviour on the court, but he is O.K. by me.

Somebody tell Hewitt to STOP being a nice guy... he gave away a call on a MATCH point to be a nice guy and now, he goes on to LOSE the 2nd set and is in 3rd set.......LOL

Almagro needs to win this.

He has sucked soo bad since MC.

Biggest disappointment of 09 so far.

well, i'm pretty sure there are some who are more disappointing ... such as others who did NOT win a 2009 title such as almagro won in acapulco!

that said, his recent clay performances havent been worth writing home about. i'd like to see nico go deeper here than he has in his last several attempts, but not sure i'd go so far as to pick him to make it to the finals.

is anybody else having trouble getting the live scoreboards? i cant get it from either belgrade, estoril or munich ... havent been able to for hours now!

if others are getting it, maybe my system has decided to block it out for some robot revolution

Youzhny is really a nice guy and, although I am sorry to see Almagro lose, I'm glad that Misha is through to the quarters. If he gets by Mathieu, he should get into the finals. Oh, boy.

i'll go along with the two of you ... i dont really have anything against PHM, but i havent seen youzhny since rotterdam ... cant remember exactly whether he retired or not, but i do remember he seemed to be playing hurt. he called the trainer for some abdominal muscle problem, so i hope that's all resolved by now. go, misha, go! :)

He played really well today...The dutch Qualifier had a big serve and Hewitt was dominating alot of the rallys by getting back some deep returns. Hewitt was looking focused, pulling out a trademark 'come'on' at the end of the 1st set.

Berdych will be a much tougher opponent in the Quarters. If he gets through that one, he has a real chance for the title as many of the top seeds are already out.

It would be really interesting, if he gets a favourable draw at RG and avoids Djokovic and Nadal.
Even in his prime, he didn't get past the QF of RG. His strokes are just too flat to be effective on the slow, high-bouncing clay there.

you'd expect berdych to take care of hewitt with ease.... but you never know with lleyton...

If he gets by Mathieu, he has a pretty clear sail to the finals. There he would be 5-3 vs. Berdych and 2-0 vs. Cilic. But against Hewitt he is 0-3 and one of those wins was last year on hard.

You know, I kinda miss home. Two more months before my annual visit. Oh, Mathieu took the second set 6-3. He is wearing the Verdasco colors but not as nice a pattern. Cheers.
