Finally some official court-level highlights from the finals:

Too much weight and quality of shot, too consistent. In such matches Sinner is a first-rate ship of the line pounding a second-rate or even third-rate. The opponent can maneuver cleverly and fight bravely but lacks the means.

Takes a bad day or the stars aligning to defeat him for a great player with such a disparity in weapons.
This match reminded me of my junior tennis days when I had to play against the top 100 nationally ranked kids. I didn’t have enough bullets in the holster.

Alcaraz real number 1 this season.

AHAHAHAH

And now don't come out with hypocritical politically correct speeches such as that we shouldn't enjoy other people's misfortunes.
I don't enjoy Alcaraz's misfortunes but rather the delusional theories of some of his fans and others.

Having said that, this 2-0 defeat terribly complicates Alcaraz's plans in this tournament, where he now sees himself forced to beat Rublev and Zverev and it is not even guaranteed that it will be enough to qualify.

However, on Alcaraz I am getting the idea that in the combination of technical and athletic means he is probably the most talented tennis player together with Federer seen in the history of this sport, but on a mental level his tennis orientation is more oriented towards Nalbaldian, Monfils, Kyrgios , etc., that is, that of genius and recklessness.
These debacles of his cannot be explained otherwise.
And here too, don't mention his numerous triumphs in relation to his age, or the statistics of his matches won which ended in the fifth set, these are generated by his immense tennis and athletic talent mentioned above, but mentally he is not and perhaps never will be a player solid.
When he has no control over his opponent he goes haywire, just as tactically he remains an anarchic player still at the ABC.

It is no coincidence that in a sketch with Sinner before the tournament when they were both asked what they would steal from the other, Sinner replied his game at the net, while Alcaraz replied his head.

He is very top player with goat level skills
But I don't think he respects the game. he should have seen how his compatriot played. Don't go to that extreme but no one would question Nadal's dedication ever.

This is why i don't like the Finals format. You lost, you should be out, like in every other tournament.

Make it 4 Bo5 matches and we might have a proper tournament deserving to be 2nd to slams.

He has won 6 games today
I don't remember any player other than Zverev 2018 winning tournament after this.

Alcaraz's post-Wimbledon season is looking even worse than last year at this point. How do you get breadsticked by a guy who lost 9 of his last 10 matches? Weird. People were saying his Cincinnati final against Djokovic destroyed him mentlally last year... and this year it's the Olympics. Maybe there is a glimpse of truth here but I think he is just not good on fast conditions. He is kinda the Swiatek of ATP on HC... He won the US 2022 without playing his best just like her... He thrives in slow conditions like Indian-Wells, just like her. But in faster conditions he can lose to anybody... the Botic match confirmed it. He gets breadsticked by Humbert who then loses 2 and 2 against Zverev. Maybe he will learn and win these tournaments later on... But at this point it's hard to imagine him winning tournaments like Shanghaï/Cincinnati/Paris/Torino in the future,... especially when this is Sinner and Zverev's favorite conditions. How fast will the courts be in Los Angeles 2028 and Australia 2032? Djokovic said don't worry he will win many gold medals in the future but he'll only have 2 (max 3) chances and it'll be on hard courts... if it's too fast his chances will significantly decrease. AO next year will be important too, if he wants to complete the career Slam. Conditions aren't as fast as in Torino but still much faster than in IW. This match today really exposed all his weaknesses on these courts.

This year is different. He has played 4 exho already. Last year was pure mentally being done.

This guy has his priorities somewhere else.

I don't understand this point of view. The tour finals has been around for 50+ years. It's by far the Open Era's greatest contribution to the tournament landscape. The event was launched with a round robin format, and in those 50+ years there were only four years (in the mid-80s) in which the RR format was not employed. This is a tennis tradition as legitimate as any other. Far more would be lost than gained if the tour finals switched from RR to boring old single elimination.

I love rr format. And this being only tournament is even better because it's 8 best in the world. You see guaranteed 12 matches among top 8 + 3 more.

That is much higher than average grand slam.

I agree with nolefam. Don't think he really cares that much about the 3 indoor tourneys per season

He failed multiple doping tests and almost destroyed men’s tennis with the closed door secrecy for his doping (whether intentional or not). Don’t mock Alcaraz for a bad loss today when Sinner almost ruined the sport this year.
But what secrecy, but at least find out about the protocol procedures in such cases before writing such inaccuracies.

Wtf happened - couldn't watch the match and wasn't too sad about it actually, cause I thought I knew the outcome - seems I was wrong.
Can anyone give me a quick summary?

Not sure what is worst. Breadstick in 1 set or 5 games in a row second set. Probably the latter.
Now there is a serious risk of a Sinneraz semifinal ...

There's a serious risk that Alcaraz doesn't advance at all. 0-1 in matches and 0-2 in sets constitutes a big hole. He basically must beat both Zverev and Rublev to have a decent chance to qualify, and even that may not enough. E.g., in a 2-1 2-1 2-1 0-3 standings scenario, having a straight-set loss hurts a lot.

And Zverev has a matchup edge vs Carlos, based on H2H history.

Quite unexpected, but this is tennis and Ruud performed great. Alcaraz didn't look perfectly healthy, but that might be hindsight.

I understand some scorn after the ridiculous and frankly stupid stuff by some 'fans' but Charlie will bounce back.
Even before the match started his fan was talking about Aura

His fans do not respect sinner and then they get hated. It's same both way. Raz fans should have done better.

It’s a major bummer that Alcaraz laid an egg today vs Ruud. I believe I had him as my 4th pick to win this events, trailing Sinner, Zverev, and Med(and in that order).

Med got wrecked by Fritz and Alcaraz did even worse. Shocker.

Let's put a hold on meddy right now

He is in total downfall. I picked fritz to reach semis before tournament started.

Always hard to judge by watching highlights. Looks like Alcaraz made quite a bit of errors and Ruud played really well. Did you see the match? Is that about right?
I saw the full match. Basically ruud backhand didn't miss and he kept going cross court backhand inside out forehand.

Carlos is easily better player when trying but he gave away way too many pts free.

Sinner looks so good! His ball striking is just on an another level and these fast indoor hard courts suit him so well. He’s the big favourite in his home country.

Meddy sadly just isn’t the same playe. His serve is garbage now but real credit to Fritz. He’s having a great year.

Alcaraz inconsistency continues. He blows hot and cold. These aren’t his best conditions but very surprised he lost to Ruud who hasn’t done much for ages. A great win for him though

Actually Turin is slower than last year. So raz has no excuse of court speed.

After the defeat in the debut of the Finals against Ruud, Carlos Alcaraz says:

“A few days before coming here, I was sick. In Turin, I felt good during training, but in the match it's completely different. I didn't feel well today. This morning I had stomach problems, against Ruud I struggled especially in prolonged rallies. But I don't want to make excuses. I could have played better. And Casper is truly an uncomfortable opponent."

Then the Spaniard picked up the thread of Medvedev's speech, who yesterday revealed that he was mentally tired at the end of the season.

“I am too, all the players are. I am tired. Many matches, few days of rest and little time to train at home. You finish one tournament and you have to go play the next one on the other side of the world. I have to find a way to play good tennis while being mentally tired."

Alcaraz also addresses the issue of the difficulties of adapting to indoor courts.

“I don't have a lot of experience in indoor matches, I have to improve. I'm sure I will become a good player on these courts, but it takes time."

There were nuances, but yes, that would be my very simplified take on the match as well.
Ruud served very well, especially in the first set and towards the end of set two. Mixed both type of serve and placement with great success.

He has shined more than any player in the history at this age at least in slams (tied with Borg and Wilander at 4?)
Yes because he was built like a freak and had genetic advantage. Plus slams is not the only thing that matters to me. He is not that ahead of nole at same age.

Rafa Bjorn are far ahead.
