Fonzie just hit like 5 winners in one point — and lost the point.Tien vs. The Fons is a fun match to watch. In part very high quality, amazing shots from both. The young Brazilians power is just awesome.

This is a good match. The first time they’ve played since USO junior finals?

fons has apparently won all their meetings at all levels. hope that changes soon so we get a competitive rivalry.I wasn’t counting that because it was four games baby set tennis format and not an ATP tournament open by ranking. IMO it’s an Exo of young, upcoming players. I think I watched a bit. Fonzie beat him?
@ChrisJR3264I actually think Draper is the next 2000s person to win a slam. I fancy his chances at Wimbledon in the next 5 years to win 1 of them
That’s like throwing darts at a barn.

TBD. I like Draper but he followed up a great tournament and didn’t even win a match in Miami. It really isn't, though. Draper has been improving steadily. Was he on the 'Most Improved' list last year?

Similar to the us open SF run he didn’t exactly finish strong. I can’t buy the hype yet. Winning a grand slam is going to be much harder than a sun double.
From a proper analysis, need to see trends.I am just saying it's not as simple as throwing darts. Picking Draper was a solid choice.

Getting a pretty darn lucky draw falling the most favorable way possible at the 2024 USO is not one of them. To me, it was indeed throwing darts at a barn picking him for Indian wells. Similar to mensik winning where I didn’t think he’d make it as far as he did.
If you wanna burden the analysis on results, Fonseca is a real prospect to make leaps. 5 years younger than Draper and over a year from Mensik. So we’ll see how he develops once his body gets used to the rigors of the tour.
Draper has some upside but the consistency in 500s and 1000s need to stay. Cam Norrie won Indian wells once, just saying.
I thought Draper had a tough draw and was impressed to see him win the tournament.People picked these players to have breakthroughs in 2025. I do agree Draper was a bit lucky at the USO, but that wasn't the case in Indian Wells.
Last year, there was hardly a solid second tier last year behind the top 4 players Sinner, Alcaraz, Djokovic, Zverev. No one else was reliable. However, towards the end of the year you saw a few more challengers in the mix.
Even if Sinner had played in IW/Miami, I think Draper and Mensik would have had good runs. Would they have titles? Probably not, or at least not both of them. But a second tier is still clearly forming.

Going into his draw, I saw at best SF, worst round of 16. I thought Fonseca could upset him early but when he handed him a bagel , I started to think maybe SF would be valid.
The way Carlos was dominating the draw heading in, he couldn’t lose. And he did. Anyone who thought Carlos would lose to Draper before it happened was simply wanting him to lose, not evaluating his level at all.
Draper served up a meatball in Miami. He’s got some opportunities to get points during clay season. So we’ll see. Some of the top players who have been consistent on tour are in a slump.
Right now I get the gut feeling drapers victory at IW was a “get hot at the moment” vs. this guy being a top 5 guy consistently.
I think many on the boards continue to over hype guys. But Draper had beaten Alcaraz before, and he had improved since then. This was an upset, but not along the lines of Mensik over Djokovic.
A lot of players crash after their first title, no big surprise.
