The tournaments we have all been waiting for.
This year is different, the youngerer set emerging on clay instead of geriatrics about to go out to pasteur.;) July clay actually relevant. Atlanta betterer, Washington still strongerer.

Museum Slam antechamber Newport perhaps a throwback to grasses' best bad bouncing days:sneaky:, but you have the Wimby 2020 grass points race to tally up.

Any chance zvrv plays Hamburg with Washington not willing to pay the fee.

Humbert now loves the grass and earned a #4 seed and a bye at Newport. Won’t play until at least Wednesday vs Ramanathan/Stakhovsky winner.

He's had the itchy finger with the wild card trigger all year so it is possible though I hope he and Tsits just rest up for Rogers Cup as they've both been playing at rates beyond Thiem.

Newport looks a lovely old world setting; loads of space around the show court.

A fitting cap to the Museum Slam circuit, but basically the stadium is negligible. I'm not sure how tournament sponsorship works, but surely this should be jettisoned for a hard court event down the road? Now that they've added another week to grass season, just seems time to let go. There are hard court challengers in Mexico more deserving than Newport's low attendance.:)
Guadalajara sporting 6500 seats:

LOL. Scratch that, whole forecast is rain this week.

Why are they using the Wilson US open balls ? Newport is Grass court championship,, they should be using the Wimbledon grass court balls......

Wimbledon uses Slazenger Tennis Balls, Wilson US Open Tennis Balls are cheaper.

Umag has their priorities straight or not so straight?:

While two players battle it out in a 2R main draw match on grandstand court, the center court is packed for a Legends match featuring the guy they named the stadium for...Goran is up a set and two breaks vs Rafter.

Caruso bounces Coric with a third set breadstick, 6-2 3-6 6-1. He will play another unseeded player, Facundo Bagnis (ARG) in the QFs. The bottom half is wide open with only #4 seed Lajovic remaining.

Next on court is WC teen Jannik Sinner vs Aljaz Bedene (SLO).

I've watched like 10 seconds of Newport so no idea and really they can do what they want since Wimbledon a year away.

Pleased to see Bublik finding his way back to better tennis after some early promise years ago in St. Petersburg?(or Moscow) Humbert is an odder duck who seems to have grass game at age 20, a rarity these days. Want to catch both their matches today.:)

Bublik tied one set each with Granollers in their semi. Haven’t watched the Russian (playing under Kaz flag) before. Sort of a poor mans Kyrgios without the attitude. Tried an underarm serve and volley which is a new one on me.

Bublik putting Kyrgios to shame with attire befitting a court jester. White are sleeve on right with yellow on left. Serving at 4-3 in 3rd and has been hitting all first serves for 2nd serves given he's not won a lot of 2nd serve points.

132 mph 2nd serve ace down T for 30-15. Granollers amazing get and the net cord bounces it back into play.

131 mph body serve on 2nd serve for 40-30. Narrowly doubles.

130 mph to body for Ad. underhand serve netted..... 130 mph 2nd seals it for 5-3.

Slice forehand return of Granollers first for 0-15. big serve 15 all.... and Granollers holds.

At 5-4. Bublik service winner 132 mph, 2nd serve....130 mph body serve for 30-0

Near ace double fault 30-15 and another for 30 all:sick:

Bublik 116 mph first gets him easy return for forehand putaway and 40-30, fault, double fault into net and he actually hit 2nd serve. Fault. Wins off of 111 mph after a few rally balls. Match point.

Service winner seals "unbelievably different, weird tennis" Newport finalist per Wilander.

originally posted in General Pro so the above time delayed.

All three finals will have players going for their first ever ATP title with Umag guaranteed to produce a maiden winner (Lajovic vs qualifier Balázs). Jarry goes in Bastad for his first vs amazing success story Londero. Newport could also be all-firsttimers if Humbert upsets Isner.

Meles

Bionic Poster
Wilander has Isner as the underdog versus Humbert because Newport has authentic, bad bounce museum slam conditions. Isner won't like the low bounce.

Meles

Bionic Poster
Humbert save's Wilander's bacon from 0-40 down for 1 all. Groundies ultra low to Isner, grass brown everywhere, and all sorts of bad bounces. Wimbledon of the 90's Surface is here. This is the real Wimbledon.o_O

Wilander failed to look at past Newport champions which have featured Isner or Karlovic for most years starting in 2011.

Humbert trolls Isner with another break point saving hold, 2 all. This really is low bouncing.

Humbert great return, but challenges serve. Isner 1-0 as serve in. 1 all as Humbert works into net and clips volley on line.

Humbert advances for 2-1...Izzy bounces ball off foot....fault....Humbert gets back high kicker and nets pass. 2 all

Chair umpire calls 3-1 depsite it being 2 all and great first return at Isner's feet from Humbert has him at 3-2
