Both Nadal and Djokovic sit this one out. Can Alcaraz defend back to back titles? If he does the pressure shifts to Djokovic to perform in Rome to keep his No1 ranking.
Sinner out injured while Felix AA and Seb Korda make a return.

Barring an injury, I can't see anyone being able to stop Alcaraz. The outcome feels especially predictable this time.

That kokkinakis match was criminal. Still choking when it matters! I think if he started 5-0 every set against any player, he'll bring it to a tie-breaker and lose 6-7

Seven matches in a row for Maxime. Bad luck today. He was right there just couldn't get it done. Kudos to Stan for coming up with the goods. Stan has struggled this year in these tight three set matches. Must be like a dream seeing Maxime coming into the net. Such a big target. Probably helped Stan close it out. To me it seems like cressy hasn't been as sharp on the volley this year. Or he just hasn't gotten the bounces or the breaks in the draw. Hope that he doesn't get discouraged.

Too bad Fils didn't qualify. Would have liked to see him play again. Wondering what happened to the kid. Then I remembered how brutal and lopsided the tour is. Hopefully he can do something in Paris.

See alcaraz defending here. But something tells me we may also be in for another surprise.

Per the oddsmakers, Alcaraz is the overwhelming favorite, even money going in at an implied probability of winning the tournament at 50%. The number 2 favorite is Tsitsipas with an implied probability of winning the tournament of about 10%.

Put money down on Ruud after Zverez upsets Alcaraz.

Pretty sure the ball girls end up winning the Madrid Open 2023.
Yeah, what's up with them? Are they models again? The ballgirls on the other courts don't wear the revealing outfits like the ones one centre court. They do spend a lot of time pulling up and down their skirt/blouses, they clearly don't feel comfortable in their outfits.

Was wondering the same thing after watching Stan the Man and Cressie. The outfits are comical and the girls a bit distracting, came here to see if any one else knew what in the world was going on with that.

Tried to google it but found nothing except articles about model ball girls back in 2004.

Yeah just noticed the score. Does he look injured? Or is Vavassori playing amazing?
I’ve only just switched on but the commentators seem to be suggesting he just hasn’t adjusted to the clay. No suggestion he has a physical problem. He looked fine physically in the game I just watched.

Actually, if Alcaraz defends he's guaranteed #1 as long as he turns up to his first match in Rome, I believe.

Novak must at least match Carlos's combined Madrid & Rome points at Rome in order to remain at #1 - unless I remember incorrectly.

He just can't win matches anymore. His mojo has gone. If he can't handle somebody ranked more than twice as many places below him what chance caould he possibly have against anyone ranked higher?

One more outing on the grass this summer and then he should call it quits. It's no fun for his fans watching him struggle like this and can't be much fun for him either! Just leave us with the great memories, Andy!!

I don’t disagree. However, any suggestion he can’t play results in him literally breaking down in tears.
