Let's see if Musetti can find that 2021 Roland Garros first two sets form against Djoko. That was the last time they met on clay.

Wow, two Med votes already! At Miami post match desk interview he said something along the lines of - I'm already preparing myself to not loose my mind if I get taken out early...

He has the tougher half of the draw. Compare it with Stefanos’s side.
Novak won’t mind playing sinner. He matches up well with the Italian and played him twice already. The first 2 rounds look decent. They were most worrying as Novak hasn’t played in a while. I see Novak easing his way into the tournament. Either way he should get the match practice he needs even if he doesn’t win the title.

Remember we are on opposite sides here ;)
However, this is tennis, nothing is a given. I doubt his fans are too bothered that the draw doesn’t favour him compared to Stefanos. Personally I don’t care as my faves aren’t playing. I would like to see him dumped out early and either Jannik, Daniil or Holger win. Not that it would mean much given Novak’s record on clay.
We shall see (y)

Yeah that’s cool. I respect your honesty. Of course Djokovic can still lose early in first round or to sinner but I seen him get worse draws than this. We will see what happens. This tournament has been won by tsitsipas last 2 years and he has a good draw but he’s been struggling with injury lately.

I would be surprised if Tsitsipas won it 3 years running tbh. He isn’t a Rafa or a Novak. In truth only Jannik has a clay title, neither Daniil or Holger have although Rune is a work in progress. I picked Daniil in the poll simply because his form this year is good. At the end of the day while Novak could be rusty it’s the first clay event of the season so it’s a bit more of a level playing field in that sense.

I’m very interested to see how Meddy does on clay this year. He is playing great and maybe this is the year he translates it to clay. We will see as he needs to try step up more on clay and grass now.

Have you looked at his Monte Carlo record? Sinner has the best chance of dumping out Novak out of everyone in the top half

Well he might. However, Novak won’t be phased by challenge. He has decent early rounds to find some clay game before that like,y QF match. For Novak it’s a good sequence of matches to build form ahead of RG, which is the ultimate goal.

I admit I hope so. I do like Daniil. He is probably the most articulate of all the top players and his honesty I respect. He does make me laugh a lot too. He is very likeable as much as I wanted him to lose AO22.

I know he’s up for the challenge but in the event he does lose to Sinner ( which is very likely) I don’t think he cares. He will have momentum by Rome/Madrid

Yeah that’s true. This tournament is a less pressure situation for him. He can try earn some points and get some practice. It’s more likely someone like sinner, tsitsipas or maybe Meddy wins MC next week. We will see.

He’s a funny guy and yes very smart with good tennis IQ. Meddy has a complete game but needs to transition it neutral surfaces and improve his movement and weight of shot slightly on them. He has a solid all round game so no reason why he can’t.

Baby Rune for the win! Draw will collapse and he won't have to play Novak, Meddy, Zedrot or anyone except Thiem to bag his second Masters 1000 title!

Do not bump when Holger loses 3R.

They screwed the tournament by putting the best players on the same side of the draw, whoever wins that match will trash Tsitsipas in the final.

If Sinner beats Djokovic I think he will win his first M1000. He came close at IW and Miami and I honestly think it’s time for him to win a damn big title. Don’t see Tsitsipas defending it for a third time

He needs it. To get the monkey off his back and will help him build a winning mentality. I feel he’s close to it but it’s up to him to make the next step. I like the guy and his game so I wish him well.

Yeah and people need to stop complaining about him getting bad draws. He needs to beat the best to get the ranking points and break through

Exactly. To be the best you have to beat the best. If he goes through this draw beating Djokovic, Medvedev and tsitsipas then imagine the confidence he’d get? The more you beat the top players the bigger your aura and confidence gets.

And also people will take him more seriously. If he’s that good he needs to win a big title. Or else we cannot seriously consider him a contender for slams

I completely agree. He has the game and it’s about the belief/ and also fitness at times as well. Sinner will also look to improve his net game and mix up his play. That will help him against the best players in world.

Yeah exactly. Zverev did it in 2017, Medvedev in 2019, Alcaraz in 2022, even Rune in 2022. Sinner needs to step up or else he will always remain as a ‘has been’

I really want to see Djokovic-Sinner.

I would argue that this is close to the worst possible draw for Djokovic and Sinner. Despite meeting in the QF they have still decent chances to win according to ELO:

Look that the QF drop for both. Those are the only three with a >10% to win it, according to ELO. Despite not reflecting IMHO the strength of guys like Zverev.

Sinner is Djokovic’s worst opponent. I feel if Sinner is able to win that match he should win the tournament

Djokovic can absorb pace like very few others, is an old hand with a wise head on a fit body and will try hard to break Sinners rhythm. I expect quite a few BH slices and drops, variable play and doing a lot to get the youngster moving. He is too smart to slug it out, drive against drive, as Janniks greater weight of shot can take its toll. Actually few on tour will dare to go there.

Everything can happen but pure Elo undervalues this bad matchup for Sinner. Of course everything can happen on a tennis court and something might.

Why are you assuming this QF match will happen? Djoker lost in MC last year second round and lost to Evans in the third round in 2021. No guarantee Sinner makes the QF's either. I don't recall seeing a match analysis of a potential QF before the tournament even starts.

According to Elo we have a just under 50% chance to see such a QF, by far the most likely among all and if Novak continues to play we will have such a matchup sooner than later. So the digital ink is well spent.

It's the definitely the worst possible QF pairing he could have drawn - but Sinner is an old aficionado of Murphy's law...

The silver lining? If you're ever gonna beat Djokovic, you probably have a better chance to do it in a quarter-final than in a final.

You’ll need a double batch. Match could go long

No Guarantee Rune makes the QF either
Brilliant retort. I'm not the one posting every 16 seconds touting Holger. You post about Sinner on any conceivable thread which has nothing to do with your cuddly chokemeister.

Beyond tiresome.

You became irrelevant when you claimed you knew more about Sinner's current form than I did after I watched your God practice and play live for 7 straight days at IW. Hilarious ineptitude but go for it.

And @Rattie, Rune does have a clay title, he won Munich last year. :):):)

Well at least I get my facts right. You have a dp of your guy but to each his own. He has not impressed since 23’ and is not even a top 5 favorite to win this tournament
