Medvedev's section suddenly seems a lot less daunting if he's going to play like that. Doesn't change anything about the winner of Djokovic/Sinner being the likely favorite for the tournament, but that was a bit of a statement win for the rest of his contemporaries that would normally be favored over him on clay.

Fritz won the 1st Set and leads 4-2 in 2nd, and Wawrinka looks full of confidence :-D

Didn't get to see it, stats are interesting 57% first serves, 90% first serves won but only 2 aces... He was serving big and getting a lot of plus one's maybe? Looks like he was at the net a lot 14/22 which seems to be a good sign. Did he not have trouble with the limited amount of space behind the baseline in that stadium?

Very entertaining first set between Stan and Fritz. Some big shots and some big serves. I think Stan needed to win that set to have a chance, but let's see.

There's a toughness to Fritz's character that is isn't obvious at first. I'm very impressed.
Yeah, he can be tenacious. And serve big under pressure. He took a big step up from where he was last year IMO.

This side of the draw is pretty favourable too, I can see him making a run at this thing.
That would be great to see. People acted like he got crushed by Alcaraz,...IW semis I think,...but he gave that first set away with a DF and two UEs, then outplayed Carlos the rest of the set. 2nd set not so much but what I saw in the 1st made me think he can hang with the top tier. Maybe. Hopefully.

Fritz made the quarters at this tournament last year and lost a tough 3 setter to Fokina he isnt bad on this surface. He would have done more damage on clay last year but got hurt.

Yeah he was absolutely cruising on serve today despite that. Sonego kept fighting hard to hold his own and then Med would hold in about a minute.

It was very strange to see him standing closer to the baseline and moving forward more here than he does on hard courts. I think he truly loathes getting into long rallies on clay for some reason and just wants to end these points ASAP. It's such a bizarre dichotomy with his hard court game where he's the slowest point constructor on the planet.

I will be looking forward to watching this. And I'm glad to hear it, because he's a bit of a stubborn guy. Good to know he's open to changing his approach. I think he alluded to this at the desk interview after Miami though. Very interesting.

The Tsitsipas brothers lost in the doubles today. I didn't even know they were a thing. Anyway, I watched a little bit and Petros has an almost identical serve style to his brother, and also has a one handed backhand.

I wonder if they'll ever come across the Speical Ks (Kyrgios and Kokkinakis) on Tour?
That could make for a spicy encounter.

Cerundolo battles back from 0-5 down vs Berrettini to get things back on serve at 4-5. Berrettini was rolling to start, aided by some inexplicable errors from the Argentine, but Francisco is really starting to control things from the baseline.

Six games in a row now for Cerundolo as Berrettini implodes. At 5-5 he had a 30-0 lead, before throwing in a double fault and three forehand errors on the first ball of each rally. He looks lost after a strong start.

Some slightly encouraging signs for both Thiem and Rune today.
I'm curious what the encouraging signs were from Domi today. I thought his body language was absolutely disgraceful throughout the whole match. He out-Murray'ed Muzz's negativity. Constantly whining to his box after every missed shot, looking at his racket as if there's a hole in it and being miserable. It was sad to see Thiem so reduced in shot tolerance and without any power on his FH anymore. He's fallen off a cliff from his former level.
