Quality play by Fokina, extremely aggressive. And few dumb mistakes aside have really brought it.

But Med keeps himself together.

Med looks he just died lol.

What a high quality match in brutal conditions. Best win of the year for Daniil, even above Fils IW. If he even misses one ball in those pressure situations he’s probably done now.

Wonder who will meet Djokovic in the final? Meddy, Demon?
I think we’ll see an underdog make a run. De Minaur tends to blow it in these situations, & Medvedev has literally said himself he’s not prepared. I’d say Tien, but he’s probably gassed after this last week.

What’s the story here? I’m not up on the lore.
New user referenced Rune to Chris which set off a buzzer at least in my head because its something some others on here have poked fun at him for as if he's a mega fan when all he said is he has potential. anyway, new user would have no clue about this. unless they've been a serious lurker on GPPD. Turns out my suspicion and Chris's was most likely right, it was a duplicate account created by an existing user.

I wonder: do they get rid of the IP address as a whole? They should.

I mean, in mid-2023 I was certain Rune would be Alcaraz’s main challenger in the future.

Djokovic’s projected path to the title seems to have almost disappeared lol
That is why the old warhorse is still hanging around! You never know your luck and it just has to happen in 1 tournament. Despite that there is still a couple of players that can beat him. At 38 years old, in brutal conditions nothing can be taken for granted in any round.

Man, Zverev getting blitzed by Rinderknech again. If anybody needs some time away from the sport to reset its him. He was a legit contender last year and is a pile of mush right now. He's still young enough to salvage his career as a top second tier player.
He’s said he’s dealing with depression and is not having any fun playing the game. There were articles about it around Wimbledon.

A Djokovic vs Medvedev final for old times sake would be something.
I wouldn't mind seeing Medvedev winning another big title but I won't lie, it'll p1ss me off if he does it against Djokovic this week after not even winning a 250 in the past two and a half years.

At least your boy’s legacy is secure, we have to live with Daniil being a joke for the rest of our lives unless a miracle happens one January.

this ****ty site can't keep images a week.

While that's true, he was consistently going deep in slams, at least the quarters in 6 of 7 slams prior to Wimbledon then lost the 1st round to Rinderknech there and has been in a tailspin ever since.
Heh heh, can't resist it - were the courts altered to suit Rinderknech too?

That was a horrible end to Jannik's title defence, hope he'll be okay soon. Similarly for all that withdrew due to health / fitness reasons. Novak continues to defy time, might find the impetus to wins it. Medvedev's patience and commitment is paying off - good for him to surface from the doldrums and play better.
Some potentiallly watch-worthy matches loom, including Rune / GMP; Tien / Medvedev; FAA / Musetti.
Interesting stuff arising from the withdrawals / losses of the higher seeds. Who will capitalise?

One day when Tien becomes an ATG I'm going to make a petition to change his name to Teacher. Also it shocks me how well Tien is playing, considering how much effort he put into Beijing. So many promising players like Mensik and Draper put an amazing effort into one title and then crash out R1 in the next.

Medvedev said he suffers when the degree is above 28. But other players do not suffer until the degree is above 33. He was happy in Shanghai because all the other players suffered the same high heat and humidity, not only himself this time.

I think players are more concerned about fairness. It is not fair for some players to enjoy closing the roof and turning on the AC, while other players are suffering or have already suffered heat and humidity.

If you cannot handle the heat, players can just show up for a little while, then take the money and withdraw. And that is what many players have done in Shanghai. The remaining players have more chances to win the final this time in Shanghai. The ability to handle with high heat will be a big advantage in the tournament and GS.

Did Alcaraz back out because he knew about the weather ?
And the tournament isn't Grand Slam meaningful ?
Or maybe he didn't want to go to China this year, so maybe he was never going to play Shanghai no matter what the weather.
Plus I doubt his ankle was 100%, so focusing on recovery and being 100% for Paris Masters and ATP Finals sounds smart and brainy/brainial.

There is a huge advantage for the players who are starting around 6:30 PM.
Usually the humidity is higher and the temperature is lower by several degrees after 6:30 PM. So many players are in the same master. Absolute fairness cannot be guaranteed. It is much cooler today in Shanghai with a little wind. Tomorrow is even cooler. The remaining players will have more chances to win the final after the high heat and humidity test.

If you live in the area it feels much more comfortable when the temperature comes down. I know this because I have lived in this area almost my whole life. On the hottest days it goes up to the mid 90s. Late at night it comes down to around 83. 83 is much better regardless of the humidity.

Once again apparently no one is watching.
