The draw is out. My condolences to deMinaur, Fonseca, Jordar and then Sinner in the QF is pretty brutal.
Sinner is clear and overwhelming favourite to grab this one.
Unless Zed ****s up spectacularly he should reach the finals pretty easily
Interesting 1R /2R matches, Citybus-Bublik. Cilic Fonseca, Hurkacz-Musetti perhaps Dimitrov -Tien
Sinner should win this one unless Zed peaks and servebots his way to the title, which i consider highly unlikely.

Feels like it’s Jannik’s to lose. Has a good draw and his 2 biggest foes missing. In saying that I wouldn’t be a massive shock to see someone else win it.

learner Tien is the dark horse to win it all. Chang is coaching him very hard on red stuff right now

I wonder why a player like Diego Dedura, currently ranked #304 received a wildcard for the Madrid qualifiers? Before that, he had already a wildcard for the Miami Open qualification. Someone who supports him must be pretty influential. His level of tennis does not justify these wildcards.

The same Burruchaga who reached the final on Houston and took Paul to 3 sets.
That doesn't help the argument. Tien lost to a journeyman who then lost to Tommy Paul in a 250 clay event. Therefore Tien is a candidate to ... win Madrid?

Probably not but there's a decent likelihood he can make a deep run, given Chang's success on clay. And besides Tommy Paul is an excellent clay court player, underrated many would say.

I believe Sinner is going for the record of most consecutive masters series tournaments won here.

Madrid is always a little funny because of the altitude, but nonetheless it is difficult to see who will stop him. Ruud is the defending champ, but he hasn't been playing great lately - and is on the other side to Sinner anyway. Zverev couldn't even win in Munich and hasn't been able to beat Jannik for a while.

I didnt check qualys but is there any chance of Medvedev v Bonzi?
Bonzi just demolished Dedura 6:2, 6:1 and thus made it into the main draw. I still wonder why an utterly mediocre junior player like Dedura receives a wildcard for the qualifying of a Masters 1000?

Is it another point penalty, or a game if Apostalos can't button it?

Loose lips sink Tsitsiships.. :-D

Robbie K confirms it is game and then game and then game etc .

So Tsitsipas, after experimenting with the PA98 and the new Wilson Python, is back to the Blade. Which is all well and good, but why is his Blade a Blade v7 paint job today? That seems several Blades out of date. Thoughts?

Wilson given up on him and he's using his old stock or buying his own :-D
I'm only joking, I don't know why.
Superstition maybe?

He wins the tiebreak anyway. Close though!

Jannik trains hard ahead of his first match:

The tennis court is located at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. It was built for practice sessions of the Madrid Masters’ players. The Bernabeu is a football stadium that has been the home stadium of the Real Madrid football club since its completion in 1947.
Jude Bellingham and Thibaut Courtois are the Real Madrid football club's players.
...

Does anyone know what all the white fuzz is floating around in Madrid? It’s all in the air and all over the courts. It can’t just be dandelions. Genuinely curious what tree or plant it’s coming from.

Shapovalov has a superb opportunity to lose to qualifier Budkov Kjaer of Norway in his first match here
(no, I've never heard of him either) .

Can Denis get it done?

We have plenty in Spain to shadow the streets.
I guess there are quite a (many) few in the green area that surrounds the Caja Mágica venue as well. The seeds are covered in that sort of cotton so that they can spread far from the tree carried by the wind.
