Lol it's funny people are trying to defend kyrgios, sure the kid got the talent for sure but he's a wild cannon. He starts a fight with everyone during EVERY MATCH he insulted the crowd to "suck his D" he insulted not only wawrinka, he insulted a women from the WTA and destroy her life for a while most likely. And involved his friend which will have to deal with this range on the ATP TOUR. I see all you talking about novak and **** but they don't do stupid little kid stuff EVERY MATCH.

He's going to get a 2-3 year suspension with a 100K fine and this is my hopes - a few kicks to the nuts to learn.

Don't say he's young or he just muttering, cause he's an adult age people and he said that loud enough for the crowd to hear it. Don't be stupid TTW users, please don't be a Kyrios. You might not see him after USO so don't cry.

A three year suspension is completely ridiculous. Three months would be harsh.
Not really!if you gonna be stupid on court and try to fight with everyone. No point in having him on the tour. Dude got so much talent. He doesn't need to be acting like that

Lol. That's just stupid. He cross the line in every match

Suspending him on tha basis of what happened in Wawrinka match will make ATP look abusing their power. As much as I hate what Kyrgios did, I don't think he deserves any suspension. I'd rather impose some more hefty fine like $100,000 and order him to spend some time with underprivileged kids in Australia and teach them some tennis for 20 hours or something.

Stan was weak and quit the match with a fake injury idea he got from Federer
as he never asked once for the trainer to finish off the punk, he tanked.

Just look back at what Stanker said about the French players during their DCup tie.
Gasquet was not a happy man and confronted Stan in the toilets but Monfils got
in to help Stan weasel his way out. Stan said later it was all fun and that we should
just sort it out on the court where it matters. Yet he cant put away a punk kid and
go down valiantly like Fed and Nadal went down fighting before him.

Tanking a match is way worse than some words from a punk lad and its about time
Stan a valid player for all of tennis does not give up like this with every new punk
that comes around cause he cant handle the attitude.

If trash talking was allowed in the ATP, and Gary Payton (aka The Glove), had played tennis instead of the NBA, he probably would have destroyed a lot of players with his trash talking.

I hope they suspend that cocky little punk for at least a year. And I hope the girl he spoke about presses charges against him for damaging statements that could blacken her reputation. He's terrible for the sport and should be punished for acting like a street thug.

Ditto. I guess they should press charges against me for calling him a worthless punk who's the ugliest little rodent I've ever seen...

Not sure whether to laugh or cry at this stupid nonsense.

He destroyed nobody's life - unless you are so small minded that you cannot see that having more than one sexual relationship in your life is not an issue. Kyrgios' comment neither infers that Vekic is a cheater, nor that Kokkinakis is a manwhore or whatever. All it says is that the two at one point in time had sex, big deal. There is no direct insult in that comment. Also, the comment is not insulting towards Wawrinka in the least... Unless you're inferring that having a girlfriend that is "used goods" is somehow bad... In which case (again), the problem lies with your small-mindedness.

I cannot recall Kyrgios screaming that particular obscenity towards the crowd (not that it would surprise me), but you know that one particular player is rather famous around these parts for saying just that in a foreign language... Double standards are great, aren't they?

Anyways, the severity of his offence is being blown way out of proportion. Nick deserves a hefty fine for disclosing private information of other individuals, but anything beyond that would be a crass misstep by the ATP given their current regulations.

I guarantee you the last thing the US Open wants to do now is run a tournament without Kyrgios. If you want to get a crowd engaged and excited and involved, you will throw them Kyrgios.

yes.. how they managed to put a tournament for the past 133 years without "trashy ghetto boy" in unfathomable....

That is so unnecessary.

Words are so painful, it's as damaging as doping to sport.

Or not at all. Tennis wouldn't be where it is if there hadn't been characters that said things no reasonable, rational, calm normative person would.
I think there's a big difference than flat out childish character insults, compared to tennis specific melt downs.

I didn't mind any of kyrgios's antics before, but this is crossing the line, no matter what wawrinka's relationship status is. There should always be respect for the game and the opponent on this level of tennis. I'm all for guys having a go at each other, but this is just being immature and class-less. This isn't "OH ANDRE AGASSI, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING" kind of extrapolation or something, this is some middle school dirt flinging. Makes tennis look like a joke.

They're going to have to punish him hard enough that he takes it seriously, but as others have said the ATP totally has let doping slide in the past, and in some cases have made a complete scape goat out of players (gasquet in my opinion). Kyrgios should be fined I suppose, but I think the endorsement deals should be where he gets hit. A suspension after the tournament is a total joke.

Kyrgios looks like a brat. ATP for a lot of reasons looks like a joke... Mainly because of their anti doping efforts. But at the end of this, nobody looks like a winner. Stan looks like a cradle robber, Kyrgios a brat, ATP and Tennis AUS are going to look bad for over-reacting likely, or for not doing enough. It's just bad for the game to have one guy slinging insults at another, especially someone who's forced some much needed fresh blood into the Slam winners circle.

He should miss the USO and lose his points from Montreal. That should teach him.
Out of all people to 'sledge' he should not have done it to Wawrinka, Federer's best friend and a big character on tour.

You and I don't agree often - but here we are.

To get a year suspension would require some kind of physical assault. Insulting people is bad for the sport but hardly crippling.

I think it's more interesting to see how his sponsors deal with it. One announcer said Nike had internal discussions. I don't think they drop him over this; but 1 more and he's probably going to get dropped.

Double standard treatment for delinquent/offensive behaviour compared to Caucasian players. Many many many examples give in this thread of the hypocritical treatment of other players compared to Kyrgios.

Yay lol my dumb people. I'm out :) good luck my blind people. :P

By no means am I a Nick fan, but suspending him for 2-3 years from his CAREER over a freaking comment on court is ridiculous. Like my motto says.... "It's not that serious".

he needs a zip across his mouth like 'zippy' out of rainbow.

each time big nick k starts to get a bit lippy or sweary get a linejudge/ump to zip his mouth shut.

no aggro, no fine, no ban hammer. lovely.

After what happened at the end of Harrison v Kokkinakis match, I can see some violent confrontation if and when Kyrgios and Harrison meet each other on court. ATP should be prepared for that.

Don't sweat it.

That meeting presupposes one of two unlikely events: (1) Kyrgios getting suspended for a period so long that he falls back to the challenger circuit, (2) Harrison getting out of the challengers.

So who has actually been supended for serious verbal abuse with no direct or indirect violence in the open era history of the game?

It's not life or death. Way bigger things going on in the world.

not for many just ask Wawa. He couldnt event beat the punk kid he threw the match after a few drop shots and side to side duck shooting points but Harrison stepped over a bigger line and gets away with it while NK gest the works

Over a hundred people are dead in the chemical explosion at Tianjin, there are daily attacks in the south of Turkey by Kurd nationalist and ISIL forces, the Brazilian people are marching against their president, China is escalating a currency war and the US is full-scale in the middle of a very important election process.

Are people seriously making a stink over this? Have a bit of perspective. We've all gone mad and lost our thick skin. Now we are over-sized babies, frothing at the chance to wear bow-ties and call ourselves proper gentlemen.

Agree, suspension should be just enough to make a big impression on a dim witted young man. About 30 to 60 days would cause him to miss the USOpen and that should have an impact on the idiot. Even a year would be crazy. 90 days at the most.

Yep 30-60 days is just long enough to send a message without going too far. For me it's the fact that every time Kyrgios goes on a court there's some sort of drama. I don't think he's gone more than 2 matches without a code. He was one code away from being kicked out of last year's US Open. Then there was the poorly explained "dirty scum" comment that was likely directed towards a chair umpire.

It's not co-incidence that Rusty was given the job of trying to help Kyrgios tone things down. The problem is that nothing seems to have worked and there is a feeling of escalation with a really serious incident just around the corner. Clearly his fellow players have had enough and maybe a short term ban might be enough for every one to chill out a bit.

It seems to me that 'aggravated behaviour' might be the rubric under which the ATP is investigating, not conduct contrary to the integrity of the game, but I could be wrong. This means the penalty is 25k or winnings, whichever is more, and/or suspension from 21 days to 1 year. Winnings plus 21 days seems reasonable, albeit somewhat lenient perhaps:

Aggravated Behavior

a) No player, their coaches, physiotherapist, therapist, physician, management representative, agent, family member, tournament guest, business associate or other affiliate or associate of any player (“Related Persons”), or any other person who receives accreditation at an Event at the request of the player or any other Related Person, at any ATP World Tour or ATP Challenger Tour tournament shall engage in aggravated behavior which is defined as follows:

  1. i) One or more incidents of behavior designated in this Code as constituting aggravated behavior.

  2. ii) One incident of behavior that is flagrant and particularly injurious to the success of a tournament, or is singularly egregious, including the sale of credentials.

iii) A series of two (2) or more violations of this Code within a twelve (12) month period which singularly do not constitute aggravated behavior, but when viewed together establish a pattern of conduct that is collectively egregious and is detrimental or injurious to ATP World Tour or ATP Chal- lenger Tour tournaments.

    b) Violation of this section shall subject a player to a fine up to $25,000 or the amount of prize money won at the tournament, whichever is greater, and/or suspension from play in ATP World Tour and ATP Challenger Tour tourna- ments or events for a minimum period of twenty-one (21) days and a maxi- mum period of one (1) year. The suspension shall commence on the Monday after the expiration of the time within which an appeal may be filed, or, in the case of appeal, commencing on the Monday after a final decision on appeal. Violation of this Section by a Related Person may result in a maximum pen- alty of permanent revocation of accreditation and denial of access to all ATP World Tour and ATP Challenger Tour Tournaments.
