It's a myth that his forehand is bad, it's just ugly. They mistake it landing short sometimes for sucking but it has tremendous spin.
Yeah, but RBA has a pretty solid forehand. You'd expect him to do the bullying on that wing instead of vice-versa.

Disagree.

Gasquet's forehands are 80% loopy forehands that don't do anything, 10% flat bombs that are great, and 10% shanks. If Gasquet had one of the 20 best forehands in the game, he'd be top 5 consistently because of how great his backhand is and because he could play such an all court game.

You're under-estimating it a bit. Spin, placement, angles are really good it's just not a top 10 forehand. Agree that he should use the flatter drive more against the top guys.

RBA come monday will be in the top 10 at No 10 passing Fognini who move down to No 11. RBA has earned his top 10 ranking, a Career High in Rankings.

Gasquet's run of great form continues on in Cincy. He's now made his 1st Masters 1000 semi-final in more than 6 years (last time was at 2013 Miami) and ended a dismal run of 7 lost quarter-finals.

Not bad going at the age of 33 after a 6 month long injury layoff.

Well, that's sad. Nishioka was having a great tournament.
I wonder what/where he ate?

This is very disappointing after such a good run. What is it with Japanese players and their propensity for injuries and illness?

Really thought Gasquet would have had this but Goffin obviously rounding into some form at long last. Makes his maiden Masters 1000 final at the age of 28.

Yet another player arrives who plays his absolute best tennis against Novak but bends over like a wuss to Nadal
This is getting comical now; at this rate Rafal's going to get GOAT simply by default (assuming he doesn't get injured and Fed profits from another two slams)

Forgot to post these earlier in the week as I haven't really been on ... but better late than never!

Congrats to Medvedev on winning his maiden Masters 1000 title and 5th ATP title overall. He becomes the 1st Russian player to win the Cincinnati title and the 3rd 1st time winner in the last 4 years (after Cilic and Dimitrov). He is the 3rd player this season to win his maiden Masters 1000 title (after Thiem and Fognini) and joins a list of 18 active players who have won at least 1 ATP title at this level including his fellow Russian and fellow top #10er, Khachanov.

I've really enjoyed watching Medvedev. I had not seen him play much until this summer. Like the strokes, the mobility, the variety. He has a Nadal, Capriati, Sampras-on-the-run finish to his forehand.
