I don't see Sinner as a lock in.
First tournament back, clay etc etc.

Everyone else is blowing hot and cold.

Can Alca string it?
Ruud still too high from Madrid, and down to sea level with a bump?
Can Rune last the course physically?
Can Tsitsi stop philosophizing and just 'go clear'?
Can Z ring in a chainz of form?
Can Musetti really bring home the spaghetti?

I just don't know!

Yes. Everyone has question marks.

Despite what Sinner fans want to believe, there is no clear-cut King of Clay right now.
 
Now is the chance for Rune to back up his Barcelona run. Perhaps he would have to meet Draper before the quarters, but this is slow clay where Rune thrives (plus Draper is coming off of another big run). It would be nice to see another match-up with Alcaraz and anything extra would be welcome. My dream final would be Sinner-Rune because their Monte Carlo matches are always extra spicy, and we didn't get one this year.

Definitely not Rune and definitely not Tsitsipas. Most likely not Zverev again.

Other than that, the tournament seems to be quite open, and just as @Hitman I'm very much looking forward to see Sinner again. Only after his comeback all of us can really have a serious guess for RG winner.

i can hardly see sinner getting past navone in his first match. if he happens to, the russian-spanish guy is next and, if that's still not enough, ol' franky dolo should be able to squeeze some carrot juice out of him.

Brisbane here has 3 covered courts and we’re a 250. Time to punish the cities who can’t host an event and start to reward the decent ones who have adequate facilities. After the farce of Madrid with a technology blackout, it’s really showing who deserves it. Rome and Madrid are embarrassing.

Rome is a much loved tournament! No offence, but who in the right mind would want to swap it with Brisbane.

The power outage was in Portugal, Spain and parts of France. Hardly the tournament's fault. Almost none of the outdoor 1000's have retractable roofs anyway.

It is fair. When I was there in '23 for two match days, the first one rained away. Only got to see one set of tennis (Tsitsipas) – which meant that the tournament conveniently did not have to refund (or is it reimburse?) me. Fortunately, the next day was fine and I got to see 12 hours of world class tennis (Holger, Ruud, Rublev, Musetti, Tiafoe, Medvedev, Zverev) due to the rain delays the day before. Best day ever!

This is amazing. Did you get two days passes or the tournament reimbursed it? Great either way.

No, I got nothing. We had evening passes for Monday and all-day passes for Tuesday. First day rained away – and I got nothing because ONE set was completed. But the next day I had an all-day pass for everything except center court, so I watched five top games on grandstand. The programme was packed because of the rain the day before, so more tennis for me.

Yah man, managed to watch some of today's proceedings.
Some interesting outcomes. GMP fought but out early again, to Thompson. Burruchaga, a qualifier,(looking like he ran into a paint pot), through against an error prone Sonego in straights, playing at home. Fellow Argentine Comesana also through in straights. Lehecka out in a well contest match against Muller.

Tomorrow offers some potentially watchable matches-Marozan / Fonseca; Nardi/Cobolli; Fognini/Fearnley…… and then …… a tasty looking smorgasbord on offer on Friday.
