ATP schedule needs to be fixed...

The Australian Open has decided not to move its tournament back one week for the year 2007 and beyond. The AO wanted to start the last week of January and finish the first week of February - but local preasures won out. The AO does not want to compete with the already scheduled first week of February Formula 1 Race; that, and the fact that they would lose ticket sales from many families that could not attend because their school-age children would have to go back to school (Victoria summer vacation ends on the last day of February).

So, I'll fix the schedule myself. I'm adding a new South Africa tournament during the first week of the year, a hardcourt tournament during the Adelaide week, a single-week grass court Masters event two weeks before Wimbledon, and I'm moving Wimbledon back one week. After Wimbledon, there are no changes to the current schedule, except that I am putting New Haven during the same week as Washington/Sopot. Now, assuming that there are no changes in sites, and of course some tournaments' start week blend into the next month:

January
1. Doha/Chennai/new South Africa tournament
2. Delray Beach/Milan/Vina del Mar
3. Scottsdale/Marseille/ Buenos Aires
4. San Jose/Rotterdam/Coaste Sauipe
5. Indian Wells, 1st week
February
6. Indian Wells, 2nd week
7. Davis Cup I
8. Miami, 1nd week
9. Miami, 2nd week
March
10. Memphis/Acapulco/Dubai
11. Sydney/Auckland
12. Adelaide/another Aussie hardcourt tourney
13. Australian Open, 1st week
14. Australain Open, 2nd week
April
15. Davis Cup II
16. Houston/Valencia
17. Monte Carlo
18. Barcelona/Casablanca
May
19. Estoril/Munich
20. Rome
21. Hamburg
22. Dusseldorf/St. Poelten
23. Roland Garros, 1st week
June
24. Roland Garros, 2nd week
25. Halle/London Queens
26. New Continental (Belgium?) sited one week Masters event on grass
27. 's-Hertogenbosch/Nottingham
July
28. Wimbledon, 1st week
29. Wimbledon, 2nd week

The rest of schedule is as it is now except for moving New Haven several weeks earlier.

You're welcome.

Good luck. I think you have a better chance of winning the lottery...

But the players wouldn't be much happier with your schedule - they want a longer break between the end of one year and the start of the next.

Well, the big hangup is the early start of the AO - from what I've heard many players want the AO in the Australian Fall (March) and closer to the French Open, and the better players can take the month of January off if they want. Everyone wants an extra week on grass between the FO and Wimbledon, and there should be at least one grass Masters event. So...

Keep moving it into the extreme heat and only the Aussies will be left standing. Good.:)
BigboyDan - please submit your schedule to Weller Evans.
