These two matches back to back to start things on Show Court 3 so why not a dual thread? Elsewhere Goffin's rise faces a road block in Federer, but he and Zverev (vs red, red hot Rublev) will be watching closely these two matches before they play on Center in the evening.

Full standings:
7 Roberto Bautista Agut 2485
8 Alexander Zverev 2345
9 David Goffin 2325
10 Matteo Berrettini 2275
11 Kei Nishikori 2180
12 Gaël Monfils 2170
13 Fabio Fognini 2145
14 Diego Schwartzman 1860
15 John Isner 1760
16 Karen Khachanov 1695

Ultimate tennis narrowly favors Khachanov over Fognini and RBA over Berrettini. A loss to Fognini will almost eliminate Khachanov from London short of him defending his Paris romp from 2018.

Went with improving Khachanov in 2 instead of three like last week in Beijing vs Fognini. Berrettini in 3 over RBA. These courts are fast which should be to both players liking, but somehow I think Berrettini narrowly pulls this out with more clutch play.

Well 2 votes for Berrettini to win and 2 for Khachanov, 0 for RBA and Fognini.

Fognini begins the festivities as 12:30 p.m. local time in 5.5 hours. Sadly for me it seems likely I won't be up quite that early in my time zone (12:30 a.m. :(), but wish I could enjoy his triumph or demise. Somehow I hope he doesn't tank this in case I do wake up and regret it.

We know Khachanov has a shot against Medvedev, but Fabio's winner laden aggression seems the perfect way to deal with Medvedev:

Australia
Outdoor HardSFDaniil Medvedev26 64 61
2017ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati
OH, U.S.A.
Outdoor HardR64Fabio Fognini765 64

Quite a while ago as Sydney was Medvedev's first tournament win, but Fabio has been at the peak of his game for over a year now so he's also improved greatly.

Perhaps the winner of both these match faces certain doom at the hands of Medvedev/Thiem, but 90 points is 90 points expecially for Berrettini and RBA. If Berrettini wins today and Zverev later loses to Rublev Matteo could find himself 8th in the race for London.

Yikes. Fabio serving 40% first serves in play during the first set is one thing, 6' 5" Khachanov at 40% really bad. Flabbio takes the first set and Khachanov also with what looks like a lot of forehand errors.

Goodness. Flabbio with unsportsmanlike conduct at 30-40 manages to hold the point, but eventually faces BP again and then DFs Khach into a 2-0 lead in the 2nd. Needless to say he's not happy with the umpire and took some time to say so before Khach's serve game.

The sheer Brit boobery of Tennis TV is breathtaking at times. Not only do they not appear to have commentary on the 2nd court where the tournament has half of the round of 16, but they have one of their flaming nitwits covering doubles on the miniscule court 4, and mind you the better doubles matches are on Grandstand 2. Unbelievable nonsense.

The same could be said of Khachanov in this match who seemed to find his inner Fabio and was most generous with unforced errors.

Hopefully someone wakes up to commentate the RBA match, but don't hold your breath.;)

Clutcheo with slice lob gets another ball and the backhand pass low enough for RBA to net it. Matteo takes the first set.:D

Aceo, 2nd serve on BP, ouch, first strike approach, but nets half volley. RBA serving and leading 2-1, 2nd set.

What digging from Clutcheo, gets RBA to play a volley on an arguably wide ball that he nets. 7-6, 6-4. Italians power through in the early going on Show Court 3.:D
