The low tension poly craze is over!! or maybe it was just a thing on these boards lol.
Some people still string low but most people are in the 45-55 range.
i'll bet he also orders the house wine at restaurantsJulian Cash with syn gut crosses?
I think some players have been doing it for a while at all levels. I myself have been stringing gut mains/poly crosses at 47/44 lbs for more than 6 years on my main racquet. On another lower power racquet, I even string it at 44/40. I used to play with full gut at 57 or 58 lbs and when I tried several fullbed polys, I liked them around 42 or 44 lbs. With gut/poly hybrids I experimented in the fifties and forties till I found that the tension I liked best was mid-forties.The general trend is still downwards though right? There are even players stringing gut in the 40s now, which would have been previously unthinkable - at least that's my impression.

Don’t knock it without trying it - why would this be outlandish? I played VS/HG for two years and then switched to VS/HG Soft when it came out four years ago. I tried many gut/poly combos before settling on HyperG as my cross and I use it at 47/44. The Bryan brothers used to use this also.Hey lotta PT Strikers, nice
Very good string if you've never used it. I like the 1.20
Gut/hyperG somehow seems like the most outlandish combo, not sure why
How's the longevity on the gut with a 4 sided poly like Hyper G? I'm thinking of switching back to a gut/poly hybrid but was just going to buy a cheapo round poly for crosses.Don’t knock it without trying it - why would this be outlandish? I get about 12 hours if I play only singles and 15-18 hours if I play a mix of singles and doubles which is what I normally do. When I tried some round polys before that as crosses with gut, the poly went dead within 6 to 10 hours and I had to cut out the strings even faster. Fullbed HyperG goes dead around 15 hours and HyperG Soft goes dead in about 20 hours for me - so, I break my gut only a few hours before the performance tanks. YMMV.How's the longevity on the gut with a 4 sided poly like Hyper G? I'm thinking of switching back to a gut/poly hybrid but was just going to buy a cheapo round poly for crosses.

I dont love the grey Strike but maybe the black is better (have read the grey is a bit wild and launchy)Hey lotta PT Strikers, nice

Blue was good, I traded that reel (unfortunately) and reacquired grey.I dont love the grey Strike but maybe the black is better (have read the grey is a bit wild and launchy)
I used the 1.25 grey in a 2023 Prestige Tour and it was definitely not underpowered (to be diplomatic about it) but that could have been string pattern, tension etc… so wouldnt take it as gospelBlue was good, I traded that reel (unfortunately) and reacquired grey.
Hope it isn't what you said though because the blue was great.
Also I am using the 1.20, string seems very durable.
If you are the type playing with a gut/poly hybrid, you are not worrying about long lifetime. Also, most round polys can die even faster than the time it takes to break the gut.Just seems like the HG would immediately saw right through the gut, even in a thinner guage.
Isospeed greyfire is a round poly that seems to last awhile. I use it as a cross with a non-round polyIf you are the type playing with a gut/poly hybrid, you are not worrying about long lifetime. Also, most round polys can die even faster than the time it takes to break the gut.
MAINS - Grapplesnake Tour 8М 1.30Julian Cash with syn gut crosses?
Because no one told him that it makes no difference.Always interesting to see this. Can someone remind me why one would do the crosses tighter than the mains? like eubanks.
We all talk about equipment, but I got smoked playing a set with a former Purdue women's player (she's still young, about 30) who uses an instinct with PSGD. I never saw the power from a 5'1 lefty coming lefty with a 'beginner' frame.Him and the guy playing Lynx in a Head Instinct are my hero’s.
What a good inexpensive setup for a professional player! That’s awesomeMAINS - Grapplesnake Tour Sniper 1.30

tighter crosses can lower the launch angle - may have been a consideration for himBecause no one told him that it makes no difference.
You are right the reel was Tour 8M. I messed up, it was 6 months ago after all. I'll fix it right away. This is interesting, he was playing Tour M8 for a while
