ATP TOUR is more boring than WTA in relation to grand slams.

Although people say Serena is dominating I can't see her winning all 4 slams in the WTA Tour next year. However, on the ATP Tour, can anyone say someone outside of the big four is going to win a major? Anyone? I just don't see it happening and that's why I feel the ATP is BORING compared to the WTA right now.

The media say it is a golden age in men's tennis but this is garbage. It isn't the golden age when only FOUR MEN have won all the slams since September 2009! Four years of the same people winning the majors is not excitement.

It isn't exciting to see Nadal, Murray, Djokovic, and Federer dominating the ATP Tour. Now it just predictable.

By contrast, on the WTA Serena is chasing history, it is fascinating to see WHICH of the young women will rise up next year to challenge her.

I think something is going to happen on the WTA next year, perhaps Laura Robson or Eugenie Bouchard or Sloane Stephens will win a grand slam?

Maybe, someone young will win a major I can see that happening on the WTA compared to the ATP Tour.

I don't see one of the young men winning a grand slam next year.

I REALLY hope SOMEONE one of the young guys catches fire next year and breaks through and wins a grand slam.

No player will win the Grand Slam on the WTA or ATP side. However, we can assume the world's best players--Serena and Nadal--have the potential to repeat their 2013 majors count in 2014, if they are free of injury.

Regarding younger players....well, that's tough to predict as some up-and-comers on both sides made a little bit of noise in 2013, but none appeared to be on the fast track to majors glory.

Robson seems to have the elements that would place her in position for a breakthrough, but her fitness is highly suspect, and psychologically, she's still missing that winner's instinct (i.e., knowing that you can take the game from anyone you face).

2014 could end up a repeat of this year at the majors.
 
OP - if you thought that 4 people winning majors was boring, get used to only 2 people winning majors for the next 5 years or so - Nadal and Djokovic.

If there is truly a monumental shake-up, then perhaps Del-Potro or Murray will grab a Slam or two - but even so - they're already Slam-winners, so that's still no new blood winning any Slams.

Next ATP first-time Slam champion to emerge in 2020?

They'll argue they like "superior tennis", and call woman players "ball bashers" as they comfort themselves with denial of the fact that most top ranked Girl Juniors would smoke them off the courts, let alone number 200 on the WTA tour! LOL

I like all tennis, playing and watching, but my preference will always go in this order....Top 50 WTA, Top 10 ATP, any other level WTA, Juniors, then the other ATP Players (Yawn). Oh, and yes...this comes from a straight male if that matters.

I agree parody is on the rise (at least when Serena hangs it up)...Genie, Simona, Keys, Laura, Sloane all show signs they are for real, and when Petra gets her head on straight she can beat anyone.

Masha and Vika will probably snag another slam or 2 as well...if they out last Serena on tour!

There are many women way better at tennis than me. I am totally unashamed to admit that, and I also still find pro-level men's tennis more entertaining than women's. So what?

Not to offend anyone, but I don't watch or care about WTA that much. I only watch some big matches of the women's tennis but it's just not exciting.
 
None of the WTA final matches interested me this year. On the other hand, I watched just about every match of the ATP final this year.

I watch women's tennis when it's on, but I've only gone out of my way to find a stream when it's Erakovic, the only NZ player. I don't know how people find it enjoyable when the mens is to a higher standard generally and has lower UE, more rallies and more speed and defensive ability. I'm also opposed to the equal prize money at slams, so I'm just generally not the biggest fan of women's tennis in general.

Regarding the upsets, they're great to watch for the actual match, but not so fun when you're putting up with Bartoli vs Flipkens for the rest of the tournament. That particularly grated on me this year's Wimbledon when both Nadal and Federer crashed out and everyone on the site seemed to be enjoying it. It also speaks of a higher level and greater stratification that the lower ranked guys are consistently beaten by the top guys.

They're different sports. Just like at a cycling or athletics event where they quite often combine under 17/19 with elite athletes. You just have to take each sport for what it is. How is any women's sport going to grow if people are just going to compare them to their male counterparts?

Providing he returns to the tour fully fit, why will Murray not be able to win any more Slams against the top 2 given that he's beaten at least 1 of them in 2 out of the last 3 Slam finals he has played?

On the WTA tour, only Azarenka is currently capable of challenging Serena for any of the Slam titles!

True, she hasn't yet beaten her in a Slam final but, unlike the other women, she is currently the only one giving her tough matches in Slam finals and managing to bag a few herself when facing anybody else.
 
I'm not trying to diss either ATP/WTA, they are both good in their own ways.

The WTA can be interesting to watch because more serious recreational men players can relate more to the speed and rating of the game.. but the ATP you watch to see what potential best game you can be playing. Is one better than the other? I check my tennis scores app every day and 9/10 times I check the ATP and ignore WTA. If I was a female tennis fan/player, I'd probably be checking more WTA or at least half and half. Guys also turn into watching WTA to see how cute/sexy they are, but mainly I think the thing about it is that regular players can relate to women's (pro) tennis as more like how they play. (generally speaking)

Hmm regarding an earlier post:

Naturally the WTA players are very handy indeed and would wipe the floor with all of us, but their tennis is much less rounded, varied and interesting to watch on the whole than the tennis being produced on the ATP tour.

This hasn't always been the case, but is currently.

Let the truth commence.

However, seeing exactly the same winners not just at all Majors but practically all 1000s is getting old.

That's fair enough and it's great that tennis does so much for its women. I just don't really like the competitions personally and object to the equal prize money at slams.

She's never beaten her in a slam. I actually think Azarenka is highly overrated,there are actually a number of players other than Serena who,playing their best,should beat her...
 
WTA is a joke. 32 year old ballbasher at world number one with absolutely zero competition. Not only that having better clay season than Nadal. Just lol. Federer would be at 30 slams now if he had to face 'quality' players like Azarenka and Sharapova

Yeah women and sports is really entertaining to watch. Same reason why instead of watching Lebron throw down some thunder dunks, I actually change the channel bust out my DVR and replay some of last season's WNBA final where I'm basically subjected to 2 hours of layups and maybe 30 minutes of free throws. Yes, this is where the fun happens; happiness here I come. Because in sports we know that both men and women are equal.

I love it when women don't complain about things that are stereotypically in favor of women like how they apparently have better "verbal communication skills" and they love to gloat about it, but on the flipside when you say a man does something better than women, you get in trouble. Thank you society for your 20th century double standards.

There is no way I can honestly say that I would enjoy watching women's tennis over mens when you realize that there are men's challengers who could probably beat the top 10 ranked WTA women's. It's like someone trapped on a deserted Island saying, my favorite food is coconuts, without realizing that there is better food beyond what you are restricted to. Yes, so sad. If I try to force myself to watch, In the men's game the standard is holding your serve where a break might mean you turn over the set to your opponent. In the women's game, you hope that with all the serves that are getting broken that you hope to hold just one serve out of the dozen that you dropped in hopes that, that level is just above passing for the taking the set.

Date-Krumm age 43, currently ranked 54 (head shake. no emoticon for this, I've looked)

Heavy weights. And no I am not talking about George Forman or Mike Tyson. I'm talking about Kleybanova. I don't think Edward Gorey would have enough ink in his pen to draw this beastly creature. There's a handful of them on the courts. And this one pound for pound is hard to miss. If there was an overweight dude playing on the ATP, I can assure you he would be dispatched early on and he wouldn't be racking up wins against some of the higher seeds.

And for this, they get equal prize money. Awesome. Level of competition is the same.

How funny that you say Serena Williams chasing history. You know what the likes of Nadal and Djokovic is also chasing history. This year Murray win in Wimbledon was also historical.
