How can I guy who barely played 5 tournaments all year and won SFA win 2 awards?

It's a joke and disgrace towards the other players on Tour
There's no rule that say a player must play x number of tournaments to win an award.

Establishment, the PR, the big companies is what is killing the sport. Federer getting all these awards for the umpteenth time although his not active for the best part of the year, Murray more popular than Djokovic, Dimitrov more popular last year. Now they are promoting Murray as the best and most excithing thing that tennis has produced since Federer. I mean:confused: what the hello_O

Not relevant but I think Bryan brothers got many votes from those who love Federer or whoever but don't follow doubles. ATP ask voters vote for favorite doubles to complete the vote so I have to choose a randon name and Bryans appears in my mind because they are the most famous double players.

About Federer 13 years in a row to be Fan favorite is awesome achievement itself and we can debate that if he is the most loved player ever but it's hard to debate if the love for him is the most durable ever.

Djokovic completed a feat this year that hasn't been done in 40 years, plus the first to do it on all 4 surfaces. And get's the finger from the ATP.

Unbelievable stuff.

Those awards are just insulting to Djokovic and Murray this year. Over half the fan fave votes goes to him and he's done almost nothing this season (admittedly, through no fault of his own) and still manages to sweep the public vote? Two players with over 10000 points on the tour in 1 season, still with everything to play for in the final event of the season and a player who has dropped down the rankings like a brick with no tournament wins at ALL this season gets 56% of the votes.

Also the players on the ATP voted for Federer for the sportsmanship award? Really? I know he's a popular guy but come on... Only the other week he was posting on twitter making a dig at Djokovic about him still being the King with Murray becoming the #1. Don't even begin to tell me that it wasn't a dig either, it clearly was.

Joke awards are a joke.

I have no objection to the fan favourite award. That is what it is. He is still active and is by far the most popular player. I think the sportsmanship award is dubious. He's hardly been there to earn it.

You've missed the point completely it seems

The fact he would most likely still win this award if he didn't play a single tournament tells you everything you need to know

Yes, it tells you that Federer is the most beloved player of all time. Do we really need more proof of this fact? The only players who compare to him in this regard are Borg and perhaps Agassi. Laver too.

LOL. Those two aren't fit to carry Fed's jock strap.

It tells you that Djokovic ain't that popular. It is what it is.

The feeling when you discover that someone took a sample of Federer's blood in his prime and is cloning prime Federers with the singular goal of taking up the entirety of the ATP top 1000 in singles and doubles. If you thought Federer vs Nadal was great, you're not ready for Federer vs Federer. At least in this matchup, you get the same level of shotmaking, but you truly don't know who's going to win, regardless of surface. Even more amazing is our prized Federer/Federer vs Federer/Federer matchup. In his early Davis Cup days, other teams realized quickly they couldn't let Federer touch the ball or else the point would be over. What can you do when dodging Federer only puts the ball in the hands of Federer?

More salt in this thread than the elections, holy nutballs

I don't think that's possible. Well over 2 million people in the US are salty about it. Are there even 2 million people with an account on this thread? At least this, we can enjoy. I'm not worried that someone will get assaulted or start a civil war over this topic.

I think he was one of the most popular players ever, yes. I know he was polarizing for some but he had a huge fan base and was so successful with endorsements.

These awards are nothing more than a popularity contest (from both players AND fans I might as well add).
You cannot force anyone to "like" someone more, whatever the number of points, tournaments played or titles won.
The ONLY award that truly means something - ATP #1 - will be decided coming Sunday, and will be either Murray or Djokovic, so cool it a bit, man. ;)

Look at it like this: I see one Justin Bieber winning plenty of so-called 'music awards'.
Now if THAT were indeed the best music there's out there on offering, I would have cut off my ears by now... ;)

BTW: you don't truly believe that these top players post on twitter by themselves, do you? You're far too intelligent to believe that. They all have a bucketload of PR-personnell for such purposes.

It's absolutely hilarious. Every year it never fails to disappoint. 99% of the Fed fans here don't actually care when he wins his 1000th sportsmanship/fan favourite award, but it's very funny watching other players fans lose their minds over it.
