I will LOL if Murray qualifies with help from Ferrer and by some miracle goes on to win the whole tournament. Something like what happened with Serena...

What a stupid way to lose the set for Nishi!!! He's gotta be crying tonight if he doesn't make the semis because of this.

Should have been up 30-15 (not the line's judge fault imo, too close to call, but tremendously stupid not to challenge it from Nishi given how close it was).
Then he throws in a big DF.
Then he puts the easiest putaway overhead in the net...

Smh

great set overall though - and great mentality from Ferrer. As always!

Federer equals Lendl's record of 12 YEC semi-finals.

Federer needs a set to top the group. If he doesn't get that set he is playing Nole.

If Kei lose then Fed needs to win to get top.

Murray is probably not happy about this, but there are positives. If Ferrer beats Nishi here, Murray's objective is clearer than it would've been otherwise. Beat Federer and you finish first. Lose and you're out. He might prefer it that way.

I think this is a little unfair for Nishi. Ferrer who has nothing to lose shows up instead of a battle-weary, down and out Raonic who would have meant a sure shot win for Nishi.
Fed and Murray got to give beat downs to Raonic but Nishi gets to face a well rested and inspired Ferrer.
Nasty surprise but I guess those are the rules

a little?

Don't you guys think Federer should tank to Murray and finish 2nd in his group ?

I mean, the only way (if there is one by now) to get he YE#1 is to beat Djokovic in semis, win the trophy and then win his 2 rubbers at DC.

If he ends up 1st and faces Djokovic in the finals, no matter the result is, the YE#1 is done.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ferrer's a much more exciting player to watch live than he is on TV.

Even if he does sound like a sheep, according to the elderly lady behind me.

It's more than just 'a little unfair' for Nishi, methinks.
He expected to play Raonic, who is the total opposite of kind of player of Ferrer!

But, he should have challenged that call... things might have been completely different if he had, so he's not without blame himself.

Federer has no say now in Djokovic' being number one. If Djokovic defeats Berdych, he is number one whether he wins another match after that or not.

I dont know if you're wrong but if you are right. As a Murray fan, This sounds like a great idea!

but Bats said Ferrer cannot qualify even if he wins.
How much more often needs this to be said? Ferrer is an alternative and as such, CANNOT QUALIFY whatever happens.

EDIT: ah, OOPS, I now saw the mistake. ;)

Well at least we've had some 10 games of entertaining tennis so far.

I know that, but what happens with the extra points he could get in the DC ?

I mean, what happens if he knocks out Djokovic in semis, goes on to win the throphy and gets all those extra points from DC ?

The only way for Federer to end the year as No.1 is to win all his matches at the WTF (5-0), and for Djokovic to lose at least one and doesn't reach the final. If Federer were to lose to Murray, Djokovic is secured as YE No.1, no matter what Federer does later in the tournament.

Nope. It won't be enough. If Djokovic goes 3-0 in the RR, this is over.

Federer's biggest ally now is, of all people...Berdych.

Lol, yeah... i forgot that little detail, Federer needed to win all the matches... if he tanks to Murray then its over. LOL... silly me.

If he does that, YE#1 gets decided then and there. Needs to do a clean sweep with Novak losing (which of course ain't happening).

Heheh. I saw that... too late. ;)

 - with an ally like that, you'd start loving your enemies.

LOL, yeah.

Federer needs to be beat Murray tonight, and then hope that Berdych get by Djokovic. Then...defeat Djokovic in a semi final encounter....Just can't see that happening, especially after the demolition job Djokovic has been doing since his return to the game after being a father.

It is flat amazing.

All the celebrating that there is no Ferrer, LOOKIE who shows up to probably play spoiler?

Hate his style all you want, but he's a hardhat and lunchpail guy who puts in loads of work constantly. I can't think there is another generation, outside of this one, where he is so disrespected.

I have the utmost respect for Ferrer, and his willingness to be there at this WTF as an alternate only adds up for that.
Dimitrov might well be kicking his own arse for declining for this job right now, as there is still 200 points up for grabs for the winner of this match. ;)

Nishikori finding some first serves to help him out. He shoud take this in three I think. Always fun to see the hard fought battles between these two.

Why do asians always have such amazing hair? He's playing tennis, sweating and moving around and his hair at the changeover still looks fantastic! That hat should be making it go flat with the sweat but nope!

Plenty have respect, don't get me wrong, but there is the loser contingent that hate anyone that doesn't beat the Big 4...like it's that easy.
