Last year the final was monday. In 2012 as well
I understand that Nishikori lost his chance to win the group when he lost the first set, but what I'm confused about is why were there no projected scenarios where Nishikori could come out as top of the group. All I saw that was posted were scenarios where Nishikori either comes second or gets eliminated.
In short, because he lost his match against Federer.
If Federer wins today, he'll be 3-0 to Nishi's 2-1, so Fed is first. If Murray wins in three, all three will be 2-1. Federer will be 5-2 in sets won/lost, so he goes first. Murray and Nishi would both be at 4-3, with the head-to-head giving Nishi the nod as the second place. If Murray wins in two, he and Fed are both 4-2 to Nishi's 4-3, so they advance ahead of him.

This is ridiculous! I can't even fathom how horrible this WTF has been. 1 single competitive match thus far. Overall standard of play, abysmal.
And as what is wrong with some of the players today? Berdych
nearly gets double bagelled by Djokovic, now Murray nearly double bagelled by Fed? As a top player, show some respect for yourself and win some games, geez!

This. Berdych getting double breadsticked by Wawrinka was just as shocking imo, Cilic only winning two games against Djokovic was less suprising but even so, i expected so much better from everyone this year.
Murray today tho... He deserves no defence. Not even from his fans. I dont know if other notable fans on this forum have tried to defend him yet but let me just say, his performance today was so embarrasing that it took me a while to even come back to this forum to post. Federer played well but not well enough for that scoreline. Ill stay optimistic about his 2015 but jeez, with Murray being destroyed like this, I truely fear for Berdych tomorrow.

WTF indeed just judging by the scorelines this has been a nothing event. WTF is going on at the WTF? Sorry guys have been out of the tennis loop as of late, things just seem boring and like the Djoker show with a side of Fed here and there, which has cost my interest to dwindle significantly.

ATP has to come up with a solution to this Fiasco tournament. What is the solution ?
1. If perform badly like going 0-3, you take OFF points from your ranking ?
2. Move it up earlier in the season and make this a 5th major ?
3. Make it a elimination tournament ?
4. If you win, you get automatic #1 ranking, no matter what you did during the year ?

Although this year's tournament has been relatively poor in terms of exiting and quality matches (Only Djokovic, Federer, and maybe Nishikori are playing well), the past several WTFs were great.So I don't really think there is a problem with the tournament scheduling or format.

Neither Federer nor Djokovic have been challenged so far. Both have handled bagels and breadisticks to their group. Both may seem in good form now but they haven't really had somebdoy to push them.
People talk about Fed needing a challenge for the Djokovic final, but so does Nole. Federer even at 33 is an entirely different animal compared to the guys Novak has faced so far.
So going through the final without being challenged is equally bad for both IMO

Interesting if Berdych makes semi, because he likes playing Federer.
If he wins a set today, yes. If he loses in straights, it'll come down to games won between him, Berdych, and Cilic since they'll all be 1-2 in matches and 2-4 in sets.

Stan has to be through. He deserves it more IMO. He only got crushed by Novak, but who hasn't?
Berdych on the other hand also got crushed by Wawrinka, so if Stan beats Cilic he deserves to be there much more than Berd

Well if Stan manages it, then it is impressive. Not many players have qualified for the knockout stages in their first 2 appearances.

Everybody except Djokovic and Federer (and Nishikori, to some extent) have clearly disappointed. They might as well have held a YE #1 battle between Djokovic and Federer, in 5 sets.

Ditto. I'm quite disgusted with the whole thing. I'm not expecting any drama until the final. I hope that does not turn out to be a beat-down, either way. That would be SO disappointing.

Well, Djoko and Fed are the only 2 players who can win WTF without losing a match this year (actually, if one of the 2 wins it, it will have to be without losing a match). Since I hate the notion of losing matches and still winning the event, that is the final I have to cheer for. The way I see it, they are the only players left in the draw that deserve to lift the trophy.
