trivia question...last left-hander other than Nadal to make the WTF, and year?...no googling, unless you want to :)

Thought Melzer had made the singles draw one year, but I guess I was wrong.

just missed...

a year after Verdasco in 09...Melzer in 10 (from Wikipedia)...

"his bid to qualify as a singles player ended when Andy Roddick defeated Ernests Gulbis in the third round of the Paris Masters, giving Roddick an insurmountable lead in qualifying points for the last individual spot in the ATP World Tour Finals."

maybe next question should be..."next lefty to make it other than Nadal?"....from trivia to prediction

how difficult or unlikely?...Lopez ranked 17 at 34 years old...next highest lefty, believe it or not, Bellucci at 37

seriously, no, with the matching doubles shirts in the doubles match...or close to it...all four guys...that needs to change, not a good look for the game...hats to hide too...wrong

they cared enough about balls at once to go from white to yellow, then enough with courts to go from green to blue...clothes have to be considered too

shorts are different, was so put off by the shirts, didn't notice, but still...

Federer-Murray/Wawrinka and Djokovic-Nadal semi-finals look quite likely now.

Time for Nadal to take out Novak's legs.

Here's how to fix the doubles at WTF: make the criteria include 4 teams with at least one player in top 100 singles. Then you'd have essentialy "pros vs joes" contest between tour singles players and dubs specialists. It would be fun to watch Sock/Pop or Querrey/Johnson play against dubs pros. Groth, Stepanek, etc. It would also give singles specialists a reason to play doubles. For nobodies like Rojer/Tecau to win the WTF is an embarrassment and ATP has to do something, that is not a quality product.

You can't 'fix' doubles at the WTF without 'fixing' it on the ATP tour as a whole. It's not rewarding for the top singles players to play doubles, and almost everyone chooses a singles career over a doubles career for very obvious reasons. You want to fix doubles? You need decent promotion and you need stop treating it like a sideshow like they do with deciding points and all that crap. Maybe increase prize money in doubles as well to make it more interesting to be a top doubles player than a top 100 singles player.

Very offensive that you say Rojer/Tecau winning WTF is an embarrassment. You've clearly not watched any of their doubles matches or any doubles matches for that matter. They won Wimbledon together ffs. They are amazing to watch play as are the Bryans, Murray/Peers and other doubles specialists. Tennis isn't just all about the big names.

And seriously. You call Groth and Stepanek doubles pro's yet call Rojer/Tecau are nobodies? Groth is a top 60 singles player and Stepanek was in the top 10 for singles so calling them "doubles specialists" is pathetic. A doubles specialist would be someone like the Bryan Brothers who only play on the doubles tour.

I missed a few of the tournaments matches, but I have most of the others recorded. Which match/couple of matches were the most entertaining?

I don't think it's the prize money. You're right, doubles is broken. ATP could award points for doubles, so maybe a system of 300-200-100. Win a Masters event doubles and get 300 points, that would apply to your singles points. Obviously that's a lot of points but if you want fans to pay to watch, fans want to see Sock and Pop, not Rojer and Tec-who? And I don't really see singles players winning many Masters doubles events, so it wouldn't disrupt singles rankings that much. Don't tell me R/T are a great team, the fact is that they beat the ancient Bryan Bros, and Mike Bryan's second serve is like 80 mph at this point. It's not pretty.
