1R play underway in the first NA HC tournament lead up to USO’19.

Seeded are 3 Americans, 2 Australians, 2 Frenchmen and Albot the Moldovan.

Big John Isner is top seed and enjoys a 1R bye after his title run on grass at Newport last week. Also receiving byes are #2 Taylor Fritz, #3 Alex de Minaur and #4 PH Herbert.

Other players have already been in action with Daniel Evans the most impressive with a double breadstick demolition of qualifier Jason Jung today. A minor upset of #7 Jason Thompson by Cameron Norrie represents the first seeded casualty.

Tomic wins in a decisive TB, 7-4. 20 aces paved the way. He’ll play fellow Aussie Mattie Ebden in 2R and the winner possibly plays another Aussie AdM in QFs.

What the heck's got into Tomic? Went 3 rounds with Tiafoe today and came out the winner!! o_O

Does this mean he gets to keep his 1st round earnings? ;)

Tomic learn to play hard and keep his conduct neutral! An ATP player is about getting $$$$$$$(get pay for his effort). Tomic cannot spend what he does not get from the penalty! Food, travel, entourage all out of his pocket!

Agassi must be wondering why he is wasting time with this guy. Dimitrov has plenty of talent but no heart.

lulz at camera focusing on...not Kevin's fiancee just after he mentions her....for those of you wondering, his fiancee is the one in the fuchsia top and white pants - was sitting next to Chris Eubanks

wanted to post this here. I was thankful enough to have been able to attend the BB&T yesterday as the country club I work at provided me and my gf tickets to go. It was my first pro tournament and I was it was pretty awesome! I got to see evans play albot and i gotta say. Albot is insanely good. I know he lost the match but he hit some insanely good serves and shots against evans. I was also lucky enough to see the bryan bros play.
Unfortunately the only good part was seeing the pros play. If anyone here was thinking of attending the tournament I'd advise not to go. The stadium court was fine, but where I had issue was with the "Grandstand". unless you payed 300+ for seats inside, you had to squeeze onto two metal benches to watch play or find one of like 15 seats in a free seating area. Only two courts for a 250 events, and one of the courts being impossible to watch a match on? gross

Every set opelka and isner play is doomed to go to tiebreak.
10 straight TBs now after Isner won 6-7 6-4 6-2 in their first match in 2016. Opelka is now 3-1 h2h.

Opelka has now won their last 3 matches, all played this year. The scores have gone:

AO, R1: 7-6, 7-6 ,6-7, 7-6
NY, SF: 6-7, 7-6, 7-6
AT, R2: 7-6, 6-7, 7-6

Will either of them ever manage to break each other's serves ever again? :p

So Tomic played well. This might be my first time seeing an interview of his... He seems very thoughtful and self-aware. Is he always like this? Not what I was expecting at all based on his notoriety lol

Not surprising but just insane ! It takes all types on the pro tour I guess.

Three Aussies, two Brits and two Yanks in the QFs. Either a Serb or a Frenchman to round out The Elite Eight. It’s like pre-Open Era for a change.

Kecmanovic becomes the second teen in the QFs by rolling Ugo Humbert 2&2. He’ll play #2 seed Taylor Fritz in the last match of tomorrow’s schedule.

This has to be the youngest Elite Eight in quite some time with Dan Evans the very most senior citizen at age 29. Tomic is next at age 26. The remainder range from age 19 (2x), 20, 21 (2x) and 23. Melesian math tells me the average is under 23. Also, half of them are attempting to capture their first ATP title.

Evans v Opelka starting now. Dan with his variety could be a lot of trouble for the giant American.
Finally TennisTV has started its Atalanta coverage in the U.K.

Tomic isn’t about that whole “trying” business. His body throws a fit every time he does and he must retire.

I'm sorry but even if he manages to beat someone good at some point in the future, I'll never be able to take him seriously ever again.

I haven't been following this tournament as closely as I have the Hamburg Open; who are the semi-finalists? :)
