Absolutely no injury, Struff just played lights out, think of Wawrinka on clay when he was at his best. But still, it's Struff, so Rune should have figured out a way to make it close. I was expecting him to junk ball or moon ball him to make him generate all the pace. But he didn't try that. Just embarrassing!
His mom is telling Danish that he’s been sick all week and that his body just gave up today. How do they come up with this again and again?

Struff played power tennis with very few errors, I certainly never saw him play so big. His level was blistering from first to last. Holger looked deflated and looked at his box with confusion, like he was thinking, "how can I possibly lose to this guy?!" His ego really needs to get a reality check at this point.

Not sure what Holger can do. This slump has now lasted since August of last year and he's playing worse now than he did at 19.
I really respect your ability to be honest, obejective, and critical as a fan of Rune's. As you said, some fans of other players would do very well to take a page out of your book. Unfortunately, a lot of the top players will attract those toxic "fans" that are just people that need to latch on to something to feel like a winner, even if they have absolutely no connection to it. Really unbearable..

Here's the exact quote-- so sick of the endless lies from team Rune, it's beyond belief at this point, they have no shame:

"After the match, Holger Rune's manager and mother, Aneke Rune, told Danish media that the tennis player was ill. 'Holger has been ill all week and has been running on the spare tank. It was empty today. Not much more to say about it,' she says.

This is total lies. He practiced 4 hours on Monte Carlo clay courts Sunday-Tuesday (he looked fine, joking around, running hurdles) and only flew to Munich late on Wednesday, then practiced in the rain for 2 hours and then lifted weights in the training room. He was definitely not sick against Galen or Huesler, he even said in his presser yesterday, "I'm feeling fantastic again on court."

LIES, Mommy! It's totally embarrassing that team Rune has used the "Holger is sick" excuse four freaking times this year. After Brisbane, in Montpelier, in Miami and now in Munich. No world class 20 year old athlete is "sick" constantly.

Mommy: "Let's just tell these peasants you were sick, my handsome, talented baby darling."
Holger: "Whatever you think is best, mummy, you know best."

The issue is none of these trolls are actually fans of who they pretend to support, they don't even watch the matches and clearly know nothing about tennis. They're simply here to disrupt and get the attention online that they lack in real life. Also to live vicariously through their chosen one and pretend their success somehow reflects on them. It's a weird dynamic. There are a couple of Nadal fans who I actually like, but both would literally rather be led to the guillotine than speak one critical word of Rafa. If someone can't objectively evaluate their favorite player, what's the point of investing time in following their career?

If someone like Taylor Fritz won Wimbledon, you'd suddenly see 45 nuts here jump blindly on the Fritzy bandwagon when they never followed him as a junior, never watched a single match, know nothing about him and think he's from Mongolia instead of California. But they're suddenly "winners" because they root for a winner. That's really it in a nutshell.

Yeah, and some of them’d probably say he has beautiful strokes, too.

I have to say, your post made me chuckle

Conversely, when they lose, all of a sudden they become useless mugs and should retire immediately. On TTW, you're only as good as your last match for these type of "fans".

It would actually be pretty funny if Fritz won this tournament given the fact that he got zero votes in the poll (Struff only got 1).

I for one, am thrilled at this final. If Fritz wins, an American hack gets a title on European red clay, a rarity that must be cherished at every opportunity. If Struff wins, a German gets to win his first and long deserving title on home soil. JL Struff has been grinding his way up the ladder for so long I’d love to see him win a title. I might actually be rooting 60/40 for Struff. But I am a Fritz fan and won’t frown for too long if he takes this.

Most unexpected final - hope for it to be 3 sets, because both Jan and Fritz will want it very much. Yet, I will not give up on Rune. He will get it together soon.

It was a normal match until 2-2 30-40 breakpoint for Rune.. at that moment Struff just turned into an unbeatable monster.. 3 aces and from then on he went on firing missile after missile, 10 games in a row and match over, it was truly impressive.

It was over before Rune could even figure out what injury to fake for a MTO :D .. he actually was a good sport.. when Struff finally missed a forehand he gave thanks to the heavens by raising his hands with a smile.

How was his court position? In Monte Carlo he was very aggressive which helped and cost him. Against a big hitter like Struff in grace backing up might help, but maybe he didn't feel that well for a grind.

Better than the MC poll where neither finalist was even mentioned in the poll for which I accept all the blame :-D

Both players off to a good start. As both have excellent serve and FH combo, a single break could decide the outcome in sets. Looks it’s gonna be close

ppl in the stands look like as if its almost winter in munich

Does Struff still have the crazy coach he had at Madrid 2023 ? Seems he is not here
tsits Daddy is a choir boy compared to him
