That's a whole bunch of Americans. Would love to see Eubanks sort his game out and get a few wins here. But I think I'll take Shelton over Mannarino in the final. Would be really nice to see Shelton tiafoe but we'll see.

Anybody know what’s up with Wu? Last we saw, he was scarily fainting on court last summer.

He ended the last season early due to injury, from what he has posted on the social media, he has hired a new coach and he is training. He was in the davis cup last week, not playing but watching his teammates.

..... Would love to see Eubanks sort his game out and get a few wins here.....
Just watching the match between Eubanks / Johnson. CE playing beautifully at times, up a set 6-1 and going with serve thus far in the 2nd. Lool! Neither of them wants to win the 3rd game on SJ's serve! And he finally holds after what seems like an age.

Adrian still here - I''ll cheer him on. Pleased to see Ben / Tommy through ....... is Duckworth the dark horse here?

Hope Patten / Cabral get through in their QF in the doubles.

So the QF line-up is:

Tiafoe (1) v Giron
Mannarino (4) v Duckworth
Thompson (7) v Shelton (3)
Koepfer (8) v Paul (2)

Tiafoe should probably go through to the semis. Shelton too, although Thompson destroyed Kudla, so who knows? Paul hasn't been playing great lately, so I think there could be a chance for Koepfer to get the upset. Mannarino v Duckworth - Mannarino should probably win, but who knows with him?

Are Mannarino and Shelton on the same side of the draw? Could get a re-match of their Australian open match, and I would love to see that. Shelton seems like the type of player that would be completely obsessed with beating the guy that just beat him in a big spot.

Mannarino Nishioka tonight... keeping amateurs reaching for the stars.
What do you mean by this? Genuine question.

Mannarino got a walkover. Nishioka just handed The Magician a half bucket of money.
He's the Wizard, although I guess wizards do practice some form of magic, so there is crossover?

Wow, what is it about Jordan Thompson that makes him so annoying to watch? Ben really needs to come back and school this chump.

A rec tennis player watching those two guys play might think they still have a shot at the tour. No disrespect intended for either player. Though we all know they're phenomenal players.
Ok, that's what I thought you meant, and I pretty much agree. That's what makes Mannarino so fascinating. He flies in the face of everything you see/read/hear about what the modern game should look like, and he's getting great results.

I think I say this ever year with this tournament but why does it look like they are playing in a hospital waiting room? The lighting is horrendous. I can't wait until the venue change next year
Loool! I'm watching Tiafoe / Giron and trying to visualise the hospital waiting room. FT is being somewhat outplayed here- 0-5 down in the opener. MG takes the 1st set 6-1. As well as the unattractive court, I find the players uninspiring, and will stop watching.
Good luck to Adrian in the final QF.

Pleased to see Skupski / Gonzalez through.

I’m at work. What is going on with Tiafoe? Is he injured or is MG playing out of his shoes tonight?

As @FrankyRelax said, Giron was playing really, really well, and Tiafoe looked pretty flat (especially early on). Even when Tiafoe did try to make a push in the second, Marcos kept up the level.

(Anyone know if Giron is really using the Percept 100D?)
Seen Hurkacz is using the percept model as well. I'm going to buy one at the end of the month. I've been using the vcore 95 for over a year. Think I'm gonna go with the 97.

Kind of disappointing from Tiafoe and Eubanks here. I’d take Mannarino to win the whole thing based on how everyone has looked so far. Think Tommy probably has the best chance of beating him.

Paul-Shelton; Mannarino-Giron.

I'd like to see a Shelton-Mannarino final here. Which probably means it'll be Paul-Giron ...
Shelton and Giron played a tight match on Tokyo last Autumn, with Shelton going on to win his maiden title. I'd like to see a rematch especially in front of a US crowd getting an all-American final. Having said that, Mannarino is in the best from of his career and he's beaten plenty of up and comers of late including Draper in the Sofia final at the end of last year so I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the final, if not wins the whole thing.

Giron looks to be getting a little more power and depth from his racquet change? Of course just like Hurkacz, no telling what is underneath the pj.

Wow Paul. I only saw the Giron score vs. Tiafoe yesterday and figured Giron played well but also that Tiafoe is continuing his long "meh" streak of spotty play dating back to essentially Wimbledon last year (with the exception of the USO). But looks like Giron has really picked it up if he's on top of Mannarino 4-0 already.

Tiafoe may be finished. Not truly finished but just, the fire isn’t there, after the USO QF. Looks like he’s just there collecting checks. Poor AO as well. Something like 4-8 in his last 12.
The weird thing is that he often looks okay for a round. He beat Coric in the first round of of the AO - who I really thought he'd have trouble with after his dismal second half of 2023 (except the USO) - and then goes out in straights to Machac - who played well, but still. Dallas - takes out Michaelson fairly comfortably and then gets hammered by Giron. It's not really that he lost, but he got beatdown by a player he's beaten multiple times.

I've said before that I see him as a 20-45ish player who can make runs occasionally and win smaller tourneys from time to time. I didn't expect him to solidify for that long in the 10-15 range he's been in. But, even so, he's been sort of off. New coach not working out? Something off court? Currently sick of the grind? - which if a player gets in that headspace, there's plenty of players who are willing to take the ranking points, titles, match wins, etc. from the "over it" player.

Is Giron simply playing well? I've only kept track of scores; haven't seen the matches. Tiafoe has been off, so I didn't know what to attribute the Giron butt whooping to. But Giron has now followed that up with a decisive win over the usually difficult Mannarino. Based on scores, it seems like he's in good form.

Adrian seemed uninspired -beaten soundly by Marcos - a man on a mission judging by his endeavours. Ben unable to raise his game against Tommy who seemed sharper and played an intelligent match. The crowd was denied a good contest in both SF's, hopefully it will be a well contested final. I hope Tommy can win it.

My chaps Skupski / Gonzalez beaten, unfortunately. Shelton lost the doubles SF too.

@bluetrain4 - I know certain people here would never attribute too much of anything to simple gear choices, but ever since Marcos dumped the VCore 95 in favor of the Percept 97D, he's playing a much more solid brand of tennis. Good move, too, as the D is the way more consistent string bed and a much better flatter-hitter's frame, which compliments Marcos's through-the-court style very well.

I watched the Paul-Shelton match on replay. Tommy has really improved his net play and was outserving Shelton. He made Ben look like a junior player, well done.
