Gael marching on. He seems to be enjoying his tennis, and consequently playing well. Good effort by Zhang. Pleased to see Bublik / Khachanov / Humbert through. Andy played well, but will be disappointed to get so close and not win it. The QF's should be interesting - I hope so.

Pleased to see Venus / Rojer and Venus / Murray through.

Khachanov wins every match he is supposed to. At least it seems. If he can sneak a few upsets here and there it could make for a good career.

Mensik played very good, he appeared on this ATP250 thanks to a new rule appearently : https://x.com/Gill_Gross/status/1760534367255023732?s=20
" ATP has implemented NextGen entries for players under 21 inside the top-250. They get 1 MD and 2 Qualifying slots during the year for ATP 250s in weeks with 3 or more events"
Sounds like a good way to get the youngsters acquaintance with the ATP level

That’s a great rule, I hope to see more from him, Prizmic, Fonseca, and the rest of the talented 2005-06 gen.

I've enjoyed his game when he has confidence and can maximise it. He has improved considerably these last 18 months or so.
This Mensik guy is the revelation of this tournament. Win or lose today, he’s acquitting himself really well.
Yes he has - at 18, he's another promising youngster. He is discharging himself with considerable aplomb here. Excellent tiebreak in progress - can he get the job done in straights?

Edit: Yes! Jakub does it and is through against Rublev - the top seed - in straights. Superb stuff! Good interview too, he has confidence and seems a pleasant chap. The comms are speaking very highly of him. Apparently he is now into the top 100.

Pleased to see Murray / Venus through to the SF.

Nice job by Mensik. Good tennis. But what is he wearing? Is that an actual outfit that Adidas put out there, or did he just get a deal with them and cobble something together? Looks like he is wearing a pinny (or bib, depending on where you are from) over his shirt, which I've never seen.

Mensik v Monfils was not a SF many would have expected!
Quite so. I had not anticipated such a superb match by Jakub in straights against Andrey, so that was the first surprise. Gael has been hitting really well so I expected a better contested match with Ugo, but he outplayed UH comprehensively to win. This SF promises to be a good match if they both play well. Looking forward to it.
Khachanov is the only remaining seeded player, and I hope he gets through.

Message to Jakub : it is very difficult to ace / hit through Gael. You need power AND patience ...

The kid got a bit impatient in the second, tried to finish points quickly and got punished. Playing better now.

Jakub continues to impress. He broke to 15 in the 5th game, and did not allow Gael to gain leverage thereafter, serving for the 1st set and winning it with style. However, Gael with the momentum in the 2nd ,winning it 6-1. Will experience trump youth in the decider?
Pleased to see Khachanov through in the other SF.

Excellent win by Venus/Murray in straights to get through to the final, where they'll face Sonego / Musetti. Should be a watchable final.

There isn't a thread for Los Cabos, so I'll post here - Ruud/Tsitsipas and Zverev / Thompson SF's. Ruud also playing the doubles SF - it seems he is feeling confident.

A weekend full of some interesting contests beckons.

Agreed, and learn to use angled shots...
Monfils happily camping 4 meters behind the baseline and redirecting everything
He’s obviously trying a bit too much now. Monfils is an old fox. Running him around left and right.

I agree Los Cabos is a bit neglected, lots of nice stuff happening there as well, 3 tournaments in 1 week ... season is really on the get go

I think this is because they have two of the most disliked players on tour and one of the most boring players on tour.

Ruud and Tsitsipas have not been playing well recently, neither has been in a final for some time. One of them will be again after today. But I think Zed is favourite for the title.

Murray's loss doesn't look quite so bad now ...
If you mean that Jakub has shown that he wasn't a one match wonder, then I agree. I thought Andy played really well, which ought to give him confidence - the youngster was too good when it mattered, and deserved the win.
Excellent win by Jakub. Holding serve in the 7th game of the 2nd set under pressure from Gael was the turning point. He broke Gael down in the next game to get the break with a superb backhand down the line. Impressive too, the focus and ability to serve it out to 15.
Turning to Gael, he is playing very well in the twilight of his career and deserves congratulations for that. It should hopefully be a good match between Jakub and Karen tomorrow.

I've enjoyed the opportunity to watch whenever possible, and to have a variety of options. Seeing these youngsters doing well has been especially rewarding.

Based on the Rublev win and the rest of draw, I thought he had a good chance to make the final and win. We'll see which Khachanov shows up in the final, but it's good to see an 18 year old going deep. Nice work, Mensik.
